Re: [libreoffice-l10n] Workflow based on master

2014-12-10 Thread Valter Mura

Il 03/12/2014 18:27, Sophie ha scritto:

Hi all,

Another follow-up on the discussion we had, who would be interested to
have a translation workflow based on master?

To understand, that would mean that a new project named 'master' will be
created on Pootle. Once a month, Cloph will extract the strings from
Pootle to the source code. The main translation work will happen on this
project with a timeframe of about 6 month to do the work. When a new
version is branched off, the master translations would be used to create
a release branch project.

Note that if you fix something in master project, it won't automatically
end up in the existing release branch-translations, you will have to fix
it these projects too. But the rule of no addition of strings will still
apply for developers, so there will be few changes and minor corrections
here.

What is your opinion on that?

I think it is a good idea, let's try it.

I have to check it and understand if it works for us.

[libreoffice-l10n] Fwd: [tdf-announce] LibreOffice Viewer (Beta) now available for Android

2015-01-23 Thread Valter Mura
Hi All

is there any translation plan for the app below mentioned?

 Messaggio Inoltrato
Oggetto: [tdf-announce] LibreOffice Viewer (Beta) now available for
Android

Data: Wed, 21 Jan 2015 13:06:40 +0100
Mittente: Italo Vignoli
A: annou...@documentfoundation.org

Berlin, January 21, 2015 - The Document Foundation (TDF) is happy to see
the LibreOffice Viewer (Beta) for Android released in the Google Play
Store, allowing mobile users to access Open Document Format (ODF) files
from devices such as tablets and smartphones.

The application, created by Collabora, is available from the following
link:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.collabora.libreoffice

The first release of LibreOffice Viewer handles text documents and basic
presentations. Support for spreadsheets have been included in an early
form, while support for more complex presentations is planned for a
future release. Users are invited to download and test the application,
although care is advised for production environments.

"Support for Android is the result of cooperation between organizations
as well as individual contributors," said Michael Meeks, VP of
Productivity at Collabora, "LibreOffice's open ecosystem has again
proved its ability to bring diverse groups together to produce great
software without restrictions”.

The mobile app fulfils the wishes of many users who access ODF files on
the go, and is also able to read proprietary document formats from other
suites including Microsoft Office.

“This release is the first of a new series of mobile applications” said
Björn Michaelsen, a Director of The Document Foundation. “Individuals,
companies and organizations are encouraged to participate in the open
development process by joining the LibreOffice community."

The LibreOffice Viewer (Beta) has been created by Collabora with the
support of SMOOSE. It is built on foundational work by the LibreOffice
community, SUSE, and the Mozilla Corporation, with additional
development by Jacobo Pérez of Igalia, and Andrzej Hunt and Ian Billet
as part of Google Summer of Code.

[libreoffice-l10n] Translation "Print Preview" wrong displayed in Italian Interface

2015-02-12 Thread Valter Mura
Hi All

The string "Print Preview" is wrong displayed in the Italian UI, both in the
menu and the relative button, even if it is correctly translated in Pootle:

*wrong* result: Stampa Anteprima

(should be) *correct* result: Anteprima di stampa

BTW, in the 4.3 version the translation is correct

A search in OpenGrok shows only one occurrence of "Stampa anteprima", not
involving the error above.

I opened a bug for this matter, in order to understand what happened: 89334

1. Require email validation - the new server requires email validation,

Dwayne just told us that they hit a migration issue with the

During translation in Help, I found this occurrence in the same string
(pootle, key id: QDaN9 - swriter/guide.po):

***
printing; previews
printing;previews
***

As far as I can see, the difference between them is only a "space" after
the semicolon, in the second string. Has it got a significance or can we
consider it the same as the first one?

Thanks and regards,

[libreoffice-l10n] Error during uploading a file in Pootle

2015-06-18 Thread Valter Mura
Hi All

when trying to upload a file in Pootle, I get this error:

"File u'01.po' missing X-Pootle-Path header"

I've always uploaded files that I translate with the software Lokalize.

The files I'm trying to upload are the same "masters" from the old
Pootle site/version

Which change has been done with the upgrade?

I noticed these 2 new strings inside the file:

"X-Pootle-Path: /it/libo_help/sbasic/shared/01.po\n"
"X-Pootle-Revision: 0\n"

I suppose they are checking strings, aren't they?

Thanks and regards,

Now, if I download the entire project, for example the help, I get the
zip file. I extract it and put in the usual folder I use in translation.
Lokalize DO NOT recognize the folder and cannot open single files (I get
an error present in "row 3" in the file). Nor I cannot open them with
Kate editor (it says there is an error with the file encoding).

I've never observed such an error. Please help, I usually work offline.

Yes, those two items are used as following:

The Path to make sure we upload the file to the correct place, you'll
notice we don't ask you for that anymore.

The Revision that allows us to detect if anything changed while you
were offline. For now if any unit changes your upload is rejected and
we leave it to you to download and merge those files. Our next
iteration will add a bit more smarts and merge correctly as needed
(since we track revision per string we should be able to do this
better than before).

Hope that clarifies the items

The reason you are being bounced is that the files you have are from
the old Pootle thus won't have those entries in them.

Thank you very much Dwayne for the clear infos.

One question more: if I add these 2 strings to the old files, am I
right? Will I cause any damage to the files?

Thanks and regards,

There have been several UI changes in LibreOffice 5.0. Those changes are
not yet reflected in the Help files. I've asked Jay that major
removing/adds in the menu don't go in the UI until the help files are
modified to reflect them and they are normally contributed only to master.
I may have overlooked some of them and it's still time to revert changes
we are not happy with. So could you let me know your opinion here, is
there existing changes in the menu of 5.0 that are mandatory to be
documented?

I don't think it could be a showstopper for the release, from a power
user point of view, but consider the average user which needs to
understand the new features and wants to read them in the help.

So, not mandatory but urgent to implement in the release soon after the
5.0 one.

Re: [libreoffice-l10n] XHP Help online to assist translators

2016-05-08 Thread Valter Mura

Il 28/04/2016 20:13, Olivier Hallot ha scritto:

Hi

As some of you know perhaps, I have set a web site that is able to
display the help pages (.xhp) directly on a browser (except Microsoft
browsers, saddly)

As a translator myself I found it interesting to display the page where
the string is located. It helps to understand the context of the string
to translate and to improve quality.

Great job, Olivier! :)

For example, if I am translating string 'xSbDA' located in page
'0306.xhp' of 'libo_help/smath/01.po', I can visit the page in
English at the address

http://vm173.documentfoundation.org/text/smath/01/0306.xhp

The Pootle server in translation mode shows all information to access
the page, but there is no automatic connection between vm173 and Pootle.

The help online has been loaded with the latest master help contents,
updated just today. What you see there may be a little in advance of the
exisiting copy in pootle. I believe this shall not be an issue for most
of you.

Another usage of this service is to browse or review help pages ad-hoc
and check for consistency, precision and linguistics of its contents.
The top right area displays info on the xhp file, so it makes it easy to
pinpoint the page to improve.

I hope some of you will find interesting to access vm173.

regards

[libreoffice-l10n] Some old features in Pootle missing

2016-06-06 Thread Valter Mura
Hi All

after the Pootle's latest update I'm experiencing some useful features I
used to use during translation:

- TM suggestion's derivation is missing
- Translated strings in UI are not used for suggestions in Help
- Same translation / very similar translation, in the same area/project
are not proposed for other strings

Am I wrong or is this a little regression in the software?

TIA, ciao

I noticed, while translating, this difference between
sentences/formulas, package help/calc/01.po:

=FORECAST.ETS.PI.ADD(DATE(2014;1;1);Values;Timeline;0,9;1;TRUE();1)

and

=FORECAST.ETS.PI.ADD(DATE(2014;1;1);Values;Timeline;0.8;4;TRUE();7)

The difference is between 0,9 and 0.8, where I think the first is not

no, that tag is self-closed, just as (for line break) in HTML,
that is why there is that / at the end of tag and it does not need
another tag for closing.

In that case, there is a bug in Pootle which detects these self-closing
tags as invalid xml tags.

No, not a bug in pootle. While it is valid xml, it is not valid helpcontent.

According to Pootle, in the string buNWf in

https://translations.documentfoundation.org/fr/libo_help/translate/sdraw.po#unit=29707700
there is an invalid xml tag. I guess it is

Empty caseinline statements doesn't make sense at all, writing it in
expanded form doesn't change the meaning. It then would still be
pointless.

In this case the whole switchinline is pointless, as it doesn't switch
anything at all.

So, in these cases, do we have to expect some correction in Pootle?

[libreoffice-l10n] Discrepancy between Help and UI

2016-10-13 Thread Valter Mura
Hi All

in the Online Help the description doesn't match with the changes in the
UI, Writer section.

For better explanation, in Pootle unit:

https://translations.documentfoundation.org/it/libo_help/translate/swriter/guide.po#unit=30741538

"Click the Background tab." doesn't match with the actual
UI tab, which is now "Area" and not "Background"

Note that this should affect versions 5.1 and 5.2 (master in Pootle)

Please, amend this part and tell me if it is necessary to open a bug for
this issue, thank you.

Translation statistics are unreliable. For example:
https://translations.documentfoundation.org/projects/libo_online/ shows 760
words incomplete for Slovak, while
https://translations.documentfoundation.org/sk/libo_online/ shows that
Slovak is 100% translated.

Slovak is just an example, I found this in case of many languages.

Hi

I confirm this behaviour: the "All Languages" summary differs from the

Hi all,

I invite all of you to have a read to that message from Caolan, it's a
discussion, so please share your concerns, your solutions, your views :)

https://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/libreoffice/2017-May/077818.html

For those who translates out of Pootle, msgctxt is to be removed, if you
need them, just tell me how you use it.

Hi Sophie, *,

I read Caolán's mail, and while removing clutter is good, I'm really
worried by this proposed (impending?) removal of msgctxt. Namely, does
removing it mean that e.g. "Left", "Edit", "Number", "Print", "None" etc.
could no longer be translated differently (depending on the string's
precise context) within same module? How "big" would a module be in the
proposed new system anyway? Would all strings in same
toolbar/panel/dialog/menu/etc. be one module, or all strings in same
component, like the whole of Writer?

Hi All

I agree with this point, 'msgtxt' often gives to us useful hints to
translators, especially to those people that translate offline.
Of course, if LibreOffice developers doesn't use it, it should be
unuseful for us.

What I hope for it is the following, look at the example taken by KDE:

#. +> trunk5
#: plugins/generic/skg_advice/skgadviceboardwidget.cpp:40
#, kde-format
msgctxt "Dashboard widget title"
msgid "Advices"
msgstr "Suggerimenti"

#. +> trunk5
#: plugins/generic/skg_advice/skgadviceboardwidget.cpp:57
#, kde-format
msgctxt "Noun, a user action"
msgid "Activate all advice"
msgstr "Attiva tutti i suggerimenti"

This is very useful for us :)

If answer to my first question is yes, then it would affect the more
inflected languages quite badly - and very, very badly if the answer to my
second question is anything that encompasses more than one single toolbar,
or one single panel, or dialog, or menu. The exact maximum size of one
module will vary by language.

Also, would removing msgctxt really only affect those of us who translate
offline? Doesn't Pootle distinguish strings based on that as well?

In any case, as has been said time and time again: especially for short
strings (one or two words), each and every appearance of the string HAS TO
BE independently translatable, no matter if the string is same in English -
consider these for example:
"Number" - is it noun or verb?
"None" - which gender, number, case, etc. does it have?
"Open/Save/Print" - is it dialog title or the button?

These are just a few most basic examples off the top of my head. There are
many, many more such strings out there in the Estonian translation alone -
and Estonian doesn't even have the grammatical gender distinction that e.g.
the Slavic languages have. Ask translators of e.g. Slovenian, Bulgarian,
Polish or Russian how many times they have had to fight in various
projects for splitting strings that are identical in English, but need e.g.
different gender forms in translation.

Anyway, since you asked especially for offline usecases, here's mine: when
updating the translation after several thousands of words go fuzzy after
each major release, I use msgctxt to quickly identify the (basic) context
of the string - is it dialog title, label, menuitem with/without context,
etc. - and match it to suitable TM suggestion. If the location of the
string remains unclear from msgctxt, or if it's a new feature, I go find
the actual location based on Key-ID. If I'd have to find every last one of
the fuzzies via Key-ID, translating LibreOffice would take a lot more time
and effort, and cause way lot more frustration.

Best regards,
Mihkel
Estonian team

"The lock file is corrupted and probably empty. Opening the document

Is this about the "locked file" or about "the lock of a file"? Is the lock
corrupt (probably not "corrupted"?) or is the locked file corrupt? From the
sentence it seems the lock is corrupt and not the file itself.

2) "Spacing to Contents" has been changed to "Padding" in UI and help. Is
there any special reason for this? Is this meant as "Cell Padding" (as in
Microsoft products)?

Re: [libreoffice-l10n] Fixing new spell out numbering styles in LibreOffice 6.1

2018-05-06 Thread Valter Mura

Il 03/05/2018 18:57, Németh László ha scritto:

Hi,

LibreOffice 6.1 will support “spell out” numbering styles of OOXML (One,
Two...; First, Second..., 1st, 2nd...),
as you can see in the following screen cast (only English, French and
German examples):

  https://youtu.be/c0j4Sjie8t4

Hi Laszlo, All

My questions to the native language speakers:

1. Are these numbers correct in your language?

You can check here, too: https://numbertext.github.io/
index.html#testimonials

For Italian, from 1 to 10 there is a '$1' before the name of the number
which is not correct.
Also, we need to check all variants, I noticed some missed letter
(double l) in some ordinals

Are the ordinals generated automatically?

2. Do we need to change the default format etc. according to the normal
usage of your country/language variant?

For Italian, the default format is ok.

For example, in the recent implementation, British English and American
English differ with the “and”

101 -> “One hundred and one”: en-AU, en-GB, en-IE, en-NZ
101 -> “One hundred one”: en-US etc.

3. Is it enough to support only a single gender in Spanish etc. languages
to cover common outline and page number usage in publishing?

Book/Part/Chapter/Section/Page/Paragraph One, or simply One (normal usage
in English outline numbering)
First Book/Part/Chapter/Section/Page/Paragraph (less common in English, but
default numbering styles cover this, too)

For Italian, if we consider a simple sorting, we can use only one gender
(male), but if we refer to all types, we need the two ones, male and female:

Book = Libro, male
Part = Parte, female
Chapter = Capitolo, male
Section = Sezione, female
Page = Pagina, female
Paragraph = Paragrafo, male

(Note: This is the standard and present translation. There was a
discussion in our list concerning a different translation for the types
above, not important here.)

Note: there is a plan to use similar spell out formats in currency and date
formats of Writer, typical in contracts and invoices in several
languages. These formats are only supported in Calc yet by the NUMBERTEXT
Calc extension (or also in Writer macros via the new
com.sun.star.linguistic2.NumberText
service).
