KX-T: cable only quote

2006-05-18 Thread Larry
Anyone have any ballpark nunbers for a building owner prewire like this?

8'-4" drop ceiling, electrician will stub out (3/4" conduit) single gang
box at each location, plenum cable requirement.

quote would include:

14000 ft of cat 5 plenum cable
80 single gang plates, each with two cat 5 jacks (data 1 & data 2 - 160
jacks).
other end terminated to two customer provided rack mounted cat5 (110) 96
jack fields-
(eighty "data1" jacks to one, and eighty "data2" jacks to other)

don't waste time on this, but rounded to the thousand should make a
guess easier..

thanks folks,

Not particularily a panasonic question, but does anyone recall
installing an on-hold message / music device prior to 1996 that was
remotely programmable via modem? If so, can you provide me with the
model/manufacture?

Thank you,

About $8000 would be my estimate here. CPE on the rack and all patch panels as
I read it. I would just be providing the jack and cable material. I priced out
5e Plenum.

Half easy at wholesale

14,000 feet of cable cost about $2800.00
80 faceplates with 2 jacks . 800.00
80 hours of labor

Now, how many J-hooks do you need at $2 each, spaced 4-6 feet apart,
and do you need certification at $15/jack?

Piece of cake. Just not in real time LOL

Serial to the PC and USB to the printer.

The freeware package of the day is at www.mft.com/phonelogger. It

Re: KX-T: cable only quote

2006-05-18 Thread SurfSideSound
Larry:

In my area, my competition would tell you $800. That's what they told a
customer of mine, and complained about how we ran the wire. We weren't
finished
running the cables!!! Needless to say he bought the system from them, and
promptly went out of business.

Two ways to figure this:

1. figure your man hours and materials cost, and then your markup above
that, don't forget what your insurance costs are.

2. figure per drop, using the above costs to help determine your job.

Final Note:

At present we charge $55/drop, we had done a job that we bid against
multiple sub-contractors, with one company getting the state bid as general
contractor. They subbed us. We bid against 4 companies and got only one
building of
a large college campus. We bid $45/drop, and got the building no one wanted
to touch, the pool and gym complex, with 120 drops. This included
certification of the cables. We had to re-bid at $40/drop no test, since we
didn't get
enough of the buildings to pay for the Pentascanner tester, then at $5000.00
to certify the cable. As it was it took us 2 weeks to wire that building,
every one else was done with the project and they were waiting on us. I to
this
day have no clue how they made money, unless they hired monkeys, and paid
them in bananas.

Summary:

So if you are competitively bidding, be prepared to break even at best. If
it's just your company, and you are looking to give a fair price, the two
methods I gave should be a good guideline.

Canadian Pricing:

14000 feet Essex Cat 5e plenum at $192 per box = $2688
160 Panduit Cat 5e jacks at 5.01 per jack = $801.60
80 Panduit faceplates @ 1.67 = 133.60
Total Material = $3623.50
Minimum markup at 20% and add taxes. Material sell price would be $4652.57

Minimum on labour would be 160 x 0.5 X $55 would be $4400

Total minimum would be $9052.57

This does not include difficulties, j-hooks, certification, labels on
cables, nor organizing drops numerically within rooms.

Re: KX-T: cable only quote

2006-05-18 Thread Erling Lassesen
We just finished about 70,000 feet of Cat 5e pulls and over 500 runs. I
don't have the costs for this yet, but $55 per drop would mean my guys would
be paid minimum wages.

Based on pricing one month ago, my material cost-per-run approx $26.00 This
does not include J-hooks. Now if I add labour:
-running the wire
-routing the wire as required at the jackfield end
-terminating both ends
-basic copper testing
-labeling jacks at both ends

This only leaves me about 20-25 minutes per run (assuming minimal markup of
materials).

In our area, runs are quoted around 120-150. If we do them based on T&M,
they usually come in about half. (Vancouver Canada)

We use Panduit jacks and materials for our installs - we are certified and
have the best results with them.

Have you checked the price of cable lately ???

Non-Plenum cable has shot up to $99.00+ a box, Plenum is almost $200.00 a
box (wholesale) Retail is more.

Fuel is a $3.10 gal

Then there is labor at $45.00 per man (Union Shop)

Cable runs at 150 - 180 per run including jack and termination each end with
cable verification is where its at.

Your response amazed me, I thought I would be lucky to get one reply!

Everyone was right on with the materials, even noting the little addons.

But more amazing was how close everyone was to the same number (what's
10% anyhow).

I spent a few hours scaling a print and pushing everything thru the
spreadsheet and ended up at $10K too. Seemed high to me, I remember we
used to do two floors of a high rise office bldg for that. And $75/drop
was the norm.

Again, a big thank you to all for taking the time to reply.

The exception is when the agent invoices the client direct then he/she
buys at the agreed price.

Also the agent provides a tax invoice and is paid after you have deposited
the money from the client.

Hope that helps...

i think the al-500 was one of theirs too.

both used ram chip storage,
the tat could be loaded by handset, external cassette player, or
external line control box.
the al had a cassette player that would load the memory on power up...
was an "announce" only box.

i just googled and they are still around-

http://www.nel-techlabs.com/

most of our customers are using boxes from service bureaus that either
send a cassette or cd a week/ or month (lowcost), or use a proprietary
dial up scheme double speed to a cassette that then loaded the memory
(higher cost). voice talent and music fees are not cheap. Distribs
usually have some glossys for moh bureaus. You might look at a pc with
a sound card (1v line out) you could push a wav or mp3 to it by dialup
or thru a 'net connection, proly a lot less that the programmable moh
boxes. Or the cust could record their own with the pc, car dealers seem
to like that.

Re: KX-T: cable only quote

2006-05-18 Thread cdctel
How would you all price each cable run when you are pulling 3 cables to each
location? Lets assume that the Patch Panel and the Voice Frame are within the
same room and close to each other. Would you still price it out at 120 to 180
per Run, or would you discount the cost based upon the labor pulling 3 at a
time to each jack?

In other words, if I had 20 locations, each with 2 5e & 1 Voice, that would be
a total of 60 runs. But the actual labor would be 20 pulls, 3 at a time. How
would you price this? 120 x 60 or 250 x 20 for example.

Ok... they would freak at that price here. But, that's Eastern Shore
mentality. 120-160 a drop would be horrendous. Since they get Billy-Bob
and Bubba to run the "wiaere".

Re: KX-T: KX-TEM824

2006-05-18 Thread cdctel
Ser,
I just curious, doesn't these eu systems come with any installation manuals at
all? That seems to be a basic question that the manual could quickly answer. On
our TDA systems we need to use the RS232 output for SMDR data. Not there on the
USB. At least that is what my manuals state. I never tried it.

Pre wire for a key system $800. no matter how many drops.

I charge $55 a drop for Cat5e, but I hardly get any jobs... probably $35-$40
a drop is the normal whoring price, but I loose money at that price.

I have other competitors charging $500 over cost to install a key system,
other charge 1/3 markup, labor included. But you have to understand they are
3rd and 4th generation Eastern Shorebilly, they got grandma's house, no
mortgage, and taxes cost them 2k a year, so they work for nothing. They have
1
tech they pay well, and the rest is either family or $6/hr wire grunts.
Certification in wiring technologies means nothing here, if you can yank wire,
you're certified.

Jenne is still selling Cat 5e PVC in blue (Coleman Cable 350mhz) for $62,
and Plenum is now at $207. The Cat-3 Plenum is up to $83.

SO, is anybody buying stock in wire manufacturing this week??? Just a

Re: KX-T: Survey - Sales Agent Commission

2006-05-18 Thread SurfSideSound
Wolfgang:

Based on your categories, I am CFO, COO, CEO, Pres., Owner, Head of Sales,
Lead Salesman, chief cook, bottle washer, accounting office, accounts payable,
accounts receivable, estimate originator, underwriter, undertaker, and
overlord.

If one of my two techs, brings in a job, great, and if we get the bid, they
get a paycheck for the week, and we stay in business. The margins are so
tight here, we fight tooth and nail to be working and hope to be profitable.

We have no sales agent save for me pounding the pavement when I can. I don't
get paid commission, I get a paycheck less than my employees, and all of us
bust hard every day.

We just did an addition of 28 phones, 4 cards, tails and blocks, rewired the
jacks the wiring monkeys messed up, S/W upgraded the switch, punched down
the feeder cable to the new section, activated the phones, printed faceplates.

Then went to a service call, all with the Hot Rods running all over our
town. Got home at 7:30 to a very ill wife, took care of the animals dinner,
checked on my wife, took the goats to the barn, now I'm doing paperwork,
talking
to my daughter in IM at college about her sick mother, have to cook dinner
yet and provided you this diatribe. And tomorrow I do it again.

How much money is that worth? Sorry, I'm a little tired and bitchy, please
excuse me.

Re: KX-T: Fw: cable only quote

2006-05-18 Thread Erling Lassesen
Interesting the wage differences.

My lowest paid person, green to the industry, right work ethics, gets paid
$12 per hour. My top is $25.00 per hour with the other techs around $18 per
hour.

My techs get their birthday off with pay, and 3 weeks paid vacation after 5
years - 2 weeks after one year. They also get about 11 paid stats per year
(actually 9 + 2 extra given)

In order to do data cabling in our area, you must be a licensed electrical
contractor, and have a $2000 bond posted. You can hire helpers if you wish,
but we do not wish. We train our staff and invest in them. Most have had
fiber optic training, and about 50% have taken Panasonic factory training
courses.

We also pay 50% of their extended medical and dental coverage.

A typical house in our area runs $300-350k.

I need to get those prices for jacks! Labor is almost there, cost of

less here, so my techs ring in at 11 & 14/hr, plus burden, and they pack

Remember Larry stated plenum on this, so recalc your wire.
