[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1840906] Re: Firefox could not hear streaming Radiko
Seiichi, I'm marking the "linux" component of this bug report as "Invalid" as you are not reporting a bug with the Linux kernel. Not all codecs are included in a default installation of Ubuntu due to copyright or legal issues in some countries. Other Linux distributions are affected in the same way. If after installing ubuntu-restricted- extras you can hear Radiko then this is not a bug in Firefox as far as Ubuntu is concerned. You will find the same issues when using Chromium, Epiphany or any other web browser included in the Ubuntu repositories. I'm closing the Firefox bug too as you have confirmed that you can hear Rdaiko by installing "ubuntu-restricted-extras". ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Invalid ** Changed in: firefox (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1840906 Title: Firefox could not hear streaming Radiko Status in firefox package in Ubuntu: Invalid Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Invalid Bug description: dear everyone. this is not a bug, but may bug. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1832863] Re: Kernel 4.4.0.145 (& subsequent) boots to black screen.
** Package changed: ubuntu => linux (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1832863 Title: Kernel 4.4.0.145 (& subsequent) boots to black screen. Status in linux package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: On my Asus EeePC 1015PED netbook, running Ubuntu 16.04LTS, I updated to kernel 4.4.0.145 on 3 April 2019. On the first boot after the update, I got the usual grub screen, then "Loading Linux 4.4.0.145 ... Loading initial ramdisk ..." then the screen went black with no mouse pointer or invite. I could hear disk activity ( & see the disk-activity light) then the usual drumroll for login, but the screen stayed black. I escaped using REISUO & retried several times with the same result. If I wait for the login drumroll then input my login, there is more disk activity (setting up the desktop) but the screen stays black. So the PC is not freezing, just no screen. Trying Ctrl+Alt+F1 (or other F keys) produces nothing. I can continue to use the PC normally if I select the previous kernel 4.4.0.142 at the grub screen. On 10 June 2019, I updated to kernel 4.4.0.150 & have the same black screen as with .145. So I am unable to use this PC AT ALL with current kernels. I asked about this problem on Ubuntu Forum https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2415972 with no success & the suggestion was to raise this bug... [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1838133] Re: realtek r8822be kernel module fails after update to linux kernel-headers 5.0.0-21
** Package changed: ubuntu => linux (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1838133 Title: realtek r8822be kernel module fails after update to linux kernel- headers 5.0.0-21 Status in linux package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: On July 24th I upgraded to the latest linux-headers-5.0.0-21 as part of the dist-upgrade for latest packages in Disco Dingo 19.04. I didn't notice that wifi was no longer working because at work I exclusively use a wired Ethernet connection. Today, however, when I tried to use my realtek r8822be wireless card, I discovered that it was totally unresponsive and did not work with wpa_supplicant / wpa_cli even when invoked manually from the command line (let alone with NetworkManager). When the problem occurred, I was using 19.04's latest kernel 5.0.0-21. I then rebooted and selected kernel 5.0.0-20 from GRUB menu. "uname -a" shows that I am using the previous kernel version: Linux pj 5.0.0-20-generic #21-Ubuntu SMP Mon Jun 24 09:32:09 UTC 2019 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux With this kernel version as well as linux-headers-5.0.0.20, linux- headers-5.0.0-20-generic, my realtek wireless card works fine. While booted into 5.0.0-20 kernel, here are the realtek kernel modules that are loaded: # lsmod | grep r8 r8822be 692224 0 mac80211 806912 1 r8822be cfg80211 671744 2 mac80211,r8822be r8169 81920 0 Hopefully this realtek wireless regression can get fixed in the next minor kernel version. (more in the attached KernelErrors.log) Kernel 5.3 is missing ECC support for some families of AMD Ryzen 3rd gen CPUs. I tested myself, followed the instructions at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/BuildYourOwnKernel to build my own kernel, cherry-picked the two above commits, and have working ECC support on my self-built kernel: Linux smaug 5.3.0-43-generic #36 SMP Sat Mar 21 02:33:30 UTC 2020 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux: EDAC MC: Ver: 3.0.0 EDAC amd64: Node 0: DRAM ECC enabled. Sometime after my original logging of the bug, the intermittent service failure stopped. Unfortunately I did not keep track of which update the problem disappeared after. For months the service was rock-solid without any failures, until the update last week 18/Feb/2020 and since then I've had to restart the service multiple times daily, very much the same as when I originally logged the bug. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1860806] Re: Ubuntu 18.04 and 19.04 new ethernet problem
@JamesH, my only involvement in this bug report was to inform you that you were using an "End of Line" Ubuntu release and to ensure that the report was assigned to the correct project/package/Ubuntu release so that others who have a much better knowledge and experience of such issues could look at your report. Anyone looking at the bug reports that you raise may not have the level of expertise that can actually fix issues. Several people may look at or change the report before it reaches someone who might be able to suggest a fix. Comments such as yours will only drive Ubuntu users/volunteers such as myself away from helping to assign bug reports to users and teams that can actually help. As you have not replied to Kai-Heng's request in comment #21 I'm closing this report as "Invalid". If you still have an issue with the problem that you reported then perhaps issuing the following command in a terminal window ubuntu-bug linux when your connection is working would probably be the best way forward. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1860806 Title: Ubuntu 18.04 and 19.04 new ethernet problem Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Invalid Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu: Invalid Bug description: Ubuntu 19.04 (64 bit) on OptiPlex-7010 On every power on I have no wired Ethernet connection or even an icon to enable it. Please provide any additional information that may be requested. ** Package changed: ubuntu => linux (Ubuntu) ** Tags added: eoan -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1851941 Title: Error sleep Ubuntu activate Ubuntu not found wlan Status in linux package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Hello My notebook ubuntu 19.10 sleep. ** Package changed: ubuntu => linux (Ubuntu) ** Tags added: bionic -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1852879 Title: HDMI Display port not detected Status in linux package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: ubuntu 18.04.x+ doesn't detect my monitor connected with HDMI port. I first realized that I have a problem when running the installer. I had to connect an older monitor connected to my DVI-I port in order to run the installer. After installation I tried to make ubuntu understand that I'm trying to use my HDMI port and I used all kinds of commands suggested to me at #ubuntu@freenode but no avail. I tried ubuntu 16.04 and the problem was not there. The installer was fine and the OS was fine until I upgraded to 18.04 and the problem came back. I have tried installing different OSs recently and I had no problems with Windows 10 and Linux Mint. I tried Debian and the installer was fine but when OS started, there was the same problem as with ubuntu 18.04. ** Package changed: ubuntu => linux (Ubuntu) ** Tags added: eoan -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1848921 Title: iwlwifi firmware crashes intel 9260ac Status in linux package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Ubuntu 19.10 Kernel 5.3.0-18-generic Hardware: Thinkpad T460p (also tested on T480s) with Intel 9260ac wifi card. Expected: Wifi connects, uploads/downloads as normal Symptom: Wifi connects, as soon as an upload/download (any heavy traffic) start, the system comes to a crawl, becomes barely usable, and I end up opening a prompt to reboot. The system is unusable. This happens even with the Live USB version. The only solution I found was to download a different (newer) firmware. Latest version from: https://wireless.wiki.kernel.org/en/users/drivers/iwlwifi This is iwlwifi-9260-th-b0-jf-b0-34.618819.0.tgz I then manually copy the contained firmware to /lib/firmware, remove all other versions and make a link to iwlwifi-9260-th-b0-jf-46.ucode that the kernel expects to load. ** Package changed: ubuntu => linux (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1834439 Title: designated object in OVAL definition may be wrong Status in linux package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: recently published OVAL definition (https://people.canonical.com /~ubuntu-security/oval/) may have some breaking change as following: all definition which referenced 'linux' binary package object, has been affected. How to reproduce: for example find definition id: oval:com.ubuntu.xenial:def:201911477000 then in criterions find test_ref="oval:com.ubuntu.xenial:tst:201911477000" then in that test, find object: oval:com.ubuntu.xenial:obj:20124542000, which represent 'linux' package binaries. in this `dpkginfo_object`, used to contain only the name of the binary package, but now it contains a var_ref which points to multiple full name of the most recent binary package for linux kernel image: linux-image-4.4.0-151-generic linux-image-4.4.0-151-generic-lpae linux-image-4.4.0-151-lowlatency linux-image-4.4.0-151-powerpc-e500mc linux-image-4.4.0-151-powerpc-smp linux-image-4.4.0-151-powerpc64-emb linux-image-4.4.0-151-powerpc64-smp linux-image-unsigned-4.4.0-151-generic linux-image-unsigned-4.4.0-151-lowlatency I believe this is an error, an 'linux' binary package should not contain any version information, as can be seen in other packages objects which only contains a name of package. can you please explain the purpose of this section? Changing the antenna setup in /etc/modprobe.d/rtl8723be_options.conf doesn't help either; as a workaround an external wifi device (Gigaset USB Adapter 108) works. ** Package changed: ubuntu => linux (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1774950 Title: Suspend fails in Ubuntu and Kubuntu 18.04 but works fine in Ubuntu and Kubuntu 17.10 (and on Kubuntu 18.04 using kernel 4.14.47) Status in linux package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: I have installed Kubuntu 18.04 on 3 different machines (my friend's and my own) with no suspend problems but my HP Pavilion 11 x360 does not suspend. It suspends fine with Ubuntu 17.10, Kubuntu 17.10, Devuan Jesse, Devuan ASCII and Windows 10 but fails with Ubuntu 18.04 and Kubuntu 18.04. I have also tried suspend using a live USB of 18.04 on this machine and it fails in the same way, so does not appear to be caused by any additional programs that I had installed. By installing an older kernel (4.14) on Kubuntu 18.04 the suspend function works as expected. Running Kubuntu 18.04 with kernels 4.15, 4.16, 4.17 results in the suspend failure that freezes the machine and requires a hard reset. Correct behaviour is - Screen goes blank, fan goes off, power LED flashes to show machine is in suspend. Pressing power button triggers 'resume' function. What happens - Screen goes blank, fan stays on, power LED stays on. Machine stays in this state and does not respond to any keyboard interaction, mouse movement or power button presses. Ctrl + Alt + f1 (or f2, f3, f4 etc) does not get any response. The only way to use the machine is to shut down by holding down the power button. Checking the logs suggests that the machine believes it is in suspend mode sleep [deep] when it isn't. Having to hard reset to get any response means that the kernel logs say no more than sleep [deep] pm-suspend also results in the same problems with kernels 4.15 and 4.16, but works fine with 4.14. It is curious that a machine that suspends fine on an earlier 4.14 kernel no longer works with 4.15 and above, whilst 3 other machines (including one with pretty similar hardware) do not exhibit this problem. There are only a handful of questions about it on the forums but at least 3 other people have the same problem: https://askubuntu.com/questions/1029405/ubuntu-18-04-crashes-on- resuming-from-suspend https://askubuntu.com/questions/1041369/after-upgrading- from-17-10-ubuntu-18-04-wont-sleep-suspend I am attempting to round up anyone else with the same issue and point them to this bug report. ** Package changed: ubuntu => linux (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1768152 Title: Brightness controll doesn't work - Samsung R560 Status in linux package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Hi, I just migrated from Gentoo Linux to KUbuntu 18.04 LTS. Now I noticed that brightness control doesn't work in Ubuntu (FN Keys show KDE Dialog Brightness changed but display stays at full Backlight). Even writing to /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness doesn't change the brightness level. In Gentoo everything was working fine, display backlight responded to KDE and/or to /sys/class/backlight/... . As I now I had a bug Ticket at Kernel org with user Tux12Fun an it was implemented long time ago into the Kernel Main Line. But I can't find the Ticket on Kernel.org now :-( So I try to provide all the information i can collect from the old installation. Hardware: Samsung R560 Laptop Model: NP-R560-AS05DE Gentoo Kernel:linux-4.4.67-gentoo Gentoo Video Driver: original Nvidia 340.106 with Gentoo Kernel Patch nvidia-drivers-381.09-v3.patch Ubuntu Kernel: 4.15.0-20-generic #21-Ubuntu SMP Tue Apr 24 06:16:15 UTC 2018 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux Ubuntu Video Driver: NVidia 390.42 root@rechner4:/# lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 18.04 LTS Release:18.04 lspci -vvv attached. It seems that fsync may be broken in the latest kernel and may well be broken as early as 4.10 ? This has huge implications around performance sensitive applications like mysql. It also so worth noting that I'm running this against an ext4 filesystem with the following mount options rw,noatime, nodiratime, nobarrier, data=journal 4.4.0-87-generic - # time ./fsync real 0m7.537s <- user 0m0.000s sys 0m1.060s <- 4.15.0-29-generic - # time ./fsync real 1m38.299s <- user 0m0.013s sys 0m0.893s <- Linux buntu-1804 4.15.0-29-generic no sync() seconds:0.024438 writes per second:0.00 sync() seconds:1.705764 writes per second:0.00 real3m6.475s user0m0.006s sys 0m1.725s Linux ubuntu 4.4.0-87-generic no sync() seconds:0.012887 writes per second:0.01 sync() seconds:0.736563 writes per second:0.00 real0m8.945s user0m0.016s sys 0m0.732s #!/usr/bin/python import os, sys, mmap # Open a file fd = os.open( "/a/testfile", os.O_RDWR|os.O_CREAT|os.O_DIRECT ) m = mmap.mmap(-1, 512) for i in range (1,1): os.lseek(fd,os.SEEK_SET,0) m[1] = "1" os.write(fd, m) os.fsync(fd) # Close opened file os.close( fd ) #define _GNU_SOURCE #include #include #include #include void withSync() { int f = open( "/a/t8" , O_RDWR | O_CREAT |O_DIRECT ); lseek (f, 0, SEEK_SET ); int records = 10*1000; clock_t ustart = clock(); for(int i = 0; i < records; i++) { write(f, "012345678901234567890123456789" , 30); fsync(f); } clock_t uend = clock(); close (f); printf(" sync() seconds:%lf writes per second:%lf\n", ((double)(uend-ustart))/(CLOCKS_PER_SEC), ((double)records)/((double)(uend-ustart))/(CLOCKS_PER_SEC)); } void withoutSync() { int f = open( "/a/t10" , O_RDWR | O_CREAT | O_DIRECT ); lseek (f, 0, SEEK_SET ); int records = 10*1000; clock_t ustart = clock(); for(int i = 0; i < records; i++) { write(f, "012345678901234567890123456789" , 30 ); } clock_t uend = clock(); close (f); printf("no sync() seconds:%lf writes per second:%lf \n", ((double)(uend-ustart))/(CLOCKS_PER_SEC), ((double)records)/((double)(uend-ustart))/(CLOCKS_PER_SEC)); } int main(int argc, const char * argv[]) { withoutSync(); withSync(); return 0; } Linux buntu-1804 4.15.0-29-generic no sync() seconds:0.024438 writes per second:0.00 sync() seconds:1.705764 writes per second:0.00 real3m6.475s user0m0.006s sys 0m1.725s Linux ubuntu 4.4.0-87-generic no sync() seconds:0.012887 writes per second:0.01 sync() seconds:0.736563 writes per second:0.00 real 0m8.945s user0m0.016s sys 0m0.732s To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1785020/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~kernel-packages Post to : kernel-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~kernel-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1786241] Re: Ubuntu 18.04.1 setup crashes on ACER Nitro AN515-42 laptop with AMD Ryzen 5 2400U processor
** Package changed: ubuntu => linux (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1786241 Title: Ubuntu 18.04.1 setup crashes on ACER Nitro AN515-42 laptop with AMD Ryzen 5 2400U processor Status in linux package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Got new notebook ACER Nitro AN515-42 with AMD Ryzen 5 2400U processor and Radeon Vega 8 Mobile Gfx. Original OS on SSD is Linpus Lite. uname -a# Linux 4.2.01p_mmc #5 SMP i686 athlon i386 GNU/Linux Linpus is running in text mode only. GRUB parameters are : kernel /boot/vmlinuz ro root= nolapic_timer loglevel=0 acpi_osi=Linux pcie_aspm=off acpi=copy_dsdt pci=nocrs irqpoll quiet I've decided to install UBUNTU MATE 18.04 on laptop. Image ubuntu-mate-18.04-desktop-amd64.iso had been downloaded and installed on flash drive with rufus. Laptop doesn't have a CD/DVD drive. Secure boot was switched off in BIOS and boot from flash drive was selected. I've selected UBUNTU try option in GRUB to test on my laptop. Boot of kernel fails with many similar messages on screen about "soft lockup - CPU#4 stuck for 23s". UBUNTU Mate install option had produced same error. I've installed Windows 10 trial to test the laptop - it is working good. I've downloaded BIOS update utility, which is for Windows 10 only, from ACER and I'd updated BIOS from v1.05 to v.1.08. No changes in Windows. The UBUNTU MATE setup still is making same errors. I've tested ubuntu-mate-16.04-desktop-amd64.iso and ubuntu-mate-18.04.1-desktop-amd64.iso with same errors. I've search WEB and found working solution for me with GRUB startup option "rcu_nocbs=0-7" cause my AMD got 4 cores/ 8 threads. Second error during installation is related to ACER BIOS ACPI. UBUNTU startup fails again. GRUB boot option acpi=off didn't work. GRUB boot options from original Linpus above didn't work. Found in WEB working solution for me with GRUB startup option ivrs_ioapic[4]=00:14.0 ivrs_ioapic[5]=00:00.2 I've managed to install UBUNTU MATE 18.04.1 on my laptop. I've managed to install proprietary AMD driver 18.20 for Vega video chipset. GRUB boot options are "ro rcu_nocbs=0-7 ivrs_ioapic[4]=00:14.0 ivrs_ioapic[5]=00:00.2 quiet splash vt.handoff=1". UBUNTU MAte is running but still is getting some errors and X freeze some time - I will make extra bug report. I'm reporting from my new laptop. Copy of LOG files are attached. I expected my track pad to work after wake my track pad sometimes fails to work after I open the lid this is the laptop I am currently using https://consumer.huawei.com/us/tablets/matebook-d-14-k/ I have tried removing and putting the track pad driver into the kernel using sudo modprobe -r psmouse then sudo modprobe psmouse I can't really upgrade my kernel version to the latest without it messing with secure boot because the newer kernel images aren't signed, I'm not sure how to sign them or upgrade to a newer version. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1813795] Re: Dell tablet crashes when plugged into docking station with 4.15.0-44 kernel
** Package changed: ubuntu => linux (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1813795 Title: Dell tablet crashes when plugged into docking station with 4.15.0-44 kernel Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: I have a Dell 5290 2-in-1 tablet that has been running Ubuntu 18.04 successfully for several months. Today I upgraded the kernel from 4.15.0-43 to 4.15.0-44. The tablet functions normally until it is plugged into its docking station, then the screen freezes. Technically, the screen flickers a few times, then goes blank, leaving only the frozen mouse pointer. The system is still running, though as I can ssh into my tablet. sudo reboot will not reboot the tablet, but sudo reboot -f will. When I force the tablet to load 4.15.0-43, the tablet functions normally. i.e. even when I plug it into its docking station, it continues to perform properly. It's only with 4.15.0-44 that it freezes. As you can see from the linked question and forum thread, this appears to be affecting many Dell tablets and laptops. It also appears clear that the bug is not present in 4.15.0-43. --- ProblemType: Bug ApportVersion: 2.20.9-0ubuntu7.5 Architecture: amd64 AudioDevicesInUse: USERPID ACCESS COMMAND /dev/snd/controlC0: rybu 1971 F pulseaudio DistroRelease: Ubuntu 18.04 HibernationDevice: RESUME=UUID=35ab6535-9677-4ec9-9b70-33d75778947f InstallationDate: Installed on 2018-11-09 (81 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS "Bionic Beaver" - Release amd64 (20180725) MachineType: Dell Inc.
