Patch to fix segfault and respect kdenlive_render help text

Hi, this was segfaulting pretty much everytime due to args.takeLast() not
finding anything, but also didn't really do what the kdenlive_render help text
describes "player" field as doing ("player: path to video player to play when
rendering is over, use '-' to disable playing").

Admittedly, the patch accepts path or just the program name.

Anyway, now it will ignore "-" as described and will control what player is
used when provided. If this issue is why player was removed from kdenlive, I
suppose it could be added back in?

Also probably fixes at least #371487 & #371263.

Even just && m_player != "-" alone would mean "generate script" scripts
wouldn't try to play anything and segfault because of not enough arguments as
generate script uses "-" as the player for kdenlive_render - this is how I
render all my files.

Can I second this comment? I acknowledge the comments that formatting is a
destructive process, and should not be easily accessible. However, I think the
worry for many users is that, unless I 'm very much mistaken, KDE Partition
Manager requires superuser privileges and the worry is that, by mistake, you
are going to do something drastic to the hard drive, rather than the USB stick.
In contrast, for most users, reformatting a USB stick is no more drastic than
deleting a set of files.

Thanks and regards

This function works well, but if the user is inattentive or does not check
images before performing a group operation, existing captions may be lost, and
unfortunately, digikam does not warn you that there is a captioned image in the
album.
For many hundreds of images, the user must check all the images in the album,
before performing a group operation.

A warning window would be nice!

In my opinion lost image information is more annoying than the warning
window...
...but, if the digikam would allow the information to be expansion in the case
of a group selection, maybe this problem would be solved.
What I mean?

Image_1 : Caption: A
Image_2 : Caption: B
Select: Image_1 and Image_2
Add a new information: C
In this case
Image_1 new caption: A C
Image_2 new caption: B C

Hi Maik!
I full agree with Rafael Linux User!
Yesterday, one search term returned 160,000 results. I closed the digikam,
because I finished the work.
I opened digikam today and I wanted to search for a word, but the digikam was
busy compiling yesterday’s search for long minutes.
I waited, I waited and at the end of the operation (about 3 minutes) I could
see the results of yesterday’s search. Wonderful... ...but no longer current!
If the user wants to search, then the user is not interested in the results of
the previous search (if so, use the saved search).
This operation of search is very frustrating at times! Why can't the user
disable/enable the last search function?
Please, please change that!

  Platform: Neon Packages
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: minor
  Priority: NOR

  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
***
Since today's update, I can't drag single windows from one virtual desktop to
another> can't drag one window at a time from one virtual desktop to another.
***

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Set up 2 by 2 virtual desktops
2. Open a number of windows in one virtual desktop
3. Ctrl-F8
4. Position cursor over one window. (Perimeter is highlighted. NB I don't
remember which setting gives this highlighting.)
5. Left click mouse and drag towards a different virtual desktop

OBSERVED RESULT
Perimeter of the window under the cursor is highlighted but, when clicking and
dragging, all windows in the virtual desktop move together.

EXPECTED RESULT
Only the window under the cursor should move. (I believe this was the
behaviour with Plasma 5.24)

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Windows:
macOS:
Linux/KDE Plasma: KDE Neon
(available in About System)
KDE Plasma Version: 5.25.0
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.95.0
Qt Version: 5.15.4

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
I don't know if this is related .

I am also using an external monitor. I can drag windows between virtual
desktops all on the laptop screen or all on the external monitor screen.
However, if I try to drag windows from the laptop screen to external monitor
(or vice versa) then, while in desktop grid view, the windows don't appear on
the external monitor (when dragging from the laptop) or the laptop (when
dragging from the external monitor).

I can still drag single windows from laptop to external monitor or vice versa,
when viewing any one virtual desktop.

As always, thanks and regards

digiKam -- Captions -- Description -- Pick Label and Color Label
Optional items are hidden in both places an drop-down menu, while there is no
reason to hide the elements. Working with hidden elements is much slower.
Everywhere else in digiKam these elements are expanded (for examle: Filters --
Labels filter), and this is the correct behavior!
Please change this behavior, and show each item in Pick Label and Color Label

Example: /media/benedek/Kepek/20190830Kalandpark -- this path can only be
copied in that case, if the properties panel is wide enough and the path is
fully visible. If the panel is not wide enough, the path will be truncated, and
so it goes to the clipboard.

Clipboard content, if the panel is not wide enough:

SUMMARY
***
NOTE: If you are reporting a crash, please try to attach a backtrace with debug
symbols.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Set up several desktop grids and an external monitor
2. Select desktop grid. (I do this using a screen edge.)
3. Click and hold on any of the virtual desktops on the external monitor

OBSERVED RESULT
The first desktop on the desktop grid on the external monitor is highlighted
(with my set up by a blue outline). See photo.

EXPECTED RESULT
Not sure. If anything, I would expect the selected desktop grid to be
highlighted.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Of itself, this behaviour is utterly trivial, and doesn't impair usability in
any way. I mention it only in case it helps inform some other, significant
issue.

I have tried it with 4 and 5 virtual desktops, with the same behaviour.

[korganizer] [Bug 467746] New: Korganizer Events not appearing in Google Calendar

2023-03-24 Thread Peter

OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR

SUMMARY

I have added a Google Calendar. Events in Google Calendar are imported into
Korganizer, but events in Korganizer are not being exported to Google Calendar.
I am convinced this used to work, but it seems to have stopped at some while
ago (not sure when).

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Create Event in Korganizer
2. Create Event in Google Calendar
3. Sync with Google Calendar by selecting Configure Korganizer -> General ->
Calendars -> Google Groupware -> Restart

OBSERVED RESULT

Google Calendar event appears in Korganizer, BUT Korganizer Event does not
appear in Google Calendar

EXPECTED RESULT

Google Calendar event appears in Korganizer, AND Korganizer Event appears in
Google Calendar

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

This used to work some months ago, but seems to have stopped at some point (not
sure when).
Akonadiconsole shows the message,

' kf.i18n: KLocalizedString: Using an empty domain, fix the code. msgid: "%1,
%2" msgid_plural: "" msgctxt: "Two statuses, for example \"Online, Running

[LabPlot2] [Bug 456328] Labplot 2.9 does not run

I have the same issues.  I have an up-to-date Windows 10 64-Bit system, all
drivers are up-to-date. The PC has an integrated Intel Graphics and an
additional NVIDIA Quadro system. The last revision running on this PC was the
one released with https://labplot.kde.org/2021/10/27/multi-axes-made-easy/.
Already revision 2.9 did not work. Now I tested 2.10. The same issue. What I
see: the initial logo pops-up for a few seconds, then disappears. That's all.
I would appreciate if you could investigate this now rather permanent issue.
There must have been some significant change from the test-version introducing
the multi-axes feature and the 2.9 release.

PS: What I already tried with the latest 2.10 revision: installation for only
me, installation for all user's, installation in a directory which is not MS
Windows dominated. (I am aware of issues related to installation into the MS
default directories.) In my case: I installed into C:\Progs\LabPlot.
Installation via the MS Store. Installation of the nightly build.
Installation as Administrator. All behave the same: a few seconds the logo,
then nothing.

Best regards, Peter.

I've installed debug symbols for all the libraries the crash report mentions.
Problem now is that whenever I go into KDE, no crash report is triggered, even
though the panels and background fail to appear. Tried a few times already. I
accessed KDE many times before the currently reported crash report was
generated. I don't suppose there is some to encourage it to report?

I do not know if I did this in a useful way (e.g., I ran from my working

plasmashell crash report that is the basis of this KDE bug report, with debug
symbols in place. Please find that enclosed. Beyond this, I probably won't be
of much help because I need a working KDE system and am about to wipe and
reinstall my computer.

I use digikam 7.9 from https://files.kde.org/digikam/
I have corrected the version information... ...I don't know why it was 8.0. I
probably made a mistake. Sorry!

Hi Maik.
I tried again...
"...last view is restored."
In this case, the name of the window is misleading: "New search". Name of the
window name is "New", the displayed results are old.
I tried to accept the explanation: "The idea here is actually that the user in
the Iconview is not facing an empty view", but I don't understand why the empty
window is a problem... ...if the user wants to search, he does not expect to
receive results before starting the search.
Only an idea, that's all that's needed:

In deep, I have a Dell notebook, with Dell Optimizer running in the background.
However, even with the optimizer running in the background, I can execute the
old pre-2.9.0-official release version. I have a labplot2.exe dated
2021-12-20. This LabPlot comes up and runs rather instantaneously. With this
in mind: is a background task responsible for labplot2 2.9 and newer not firing
up?

However, I will test version 2.10 again, then without the Dell background
manager working in the background.  I will inform you again.

Best regards, Peter.

Good morning,
what I did: I have another Dell, a PC, in the same network, also up-to-date
Windows 10. Even though the dell services are the same as those on my
notebook, the LabPlot2 2.10 main windows poped up almost immediately. Because
of this experiment, I do not suspect the Dell services to be the reason for the
failing on my notebook. The mayor difference I see: the notebook combines a
Intel UHD graphics with a NVIDIA Graphics, while the Dell PC only has the
NVIDIA Graphics.
And still: Labplot2 in version pre-2.9.x (2022-12-20) runs on my notebook but
Laplot 2.9 ff. do not. I reported this error because it seems that I am not
the only one.
Best regards and thank you for your efforts, Peter.

[kmail2] [Bug 368394] Outlook replies double-spaced paragraphs

2023-04-14 Thread Peter
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=368394

I've been messing around with changing the templates, replacing %TEXT with
commands such as %TEXTPIPE="sed '/^$/d'" .It seems not to matter what
combination of line feeds (/n) or empty lines (^$) I delete, I get a
superfluous line with one space between each line of the original message text.
However, using 'Forward To', rather than 'Reply to Author' or 'Reply to All'
seems to work much better (although any embedded image files don't display). I
have no idea, but might this help isolate the problem?

I think I had only got as as selecting 'Properties' for an icon in a panel, and
hadn't got as far as 'Edit Applications' (see 466757). I was attempting to
create a panel shortcut to Chrome. I had erroneously entered the url in the
same field as I had used to specify Chrome as the application (and without
"--app=", and was seeking to edit it a second time to move the web address to
the next, "parameters" (or is it "arguments"?) field.

I have no idea whether it's related, but the shortcut I was seeking to create
was to a Progressive Web Application (in this instance, Teams PWA).

SUMMARY
***
System Settings.Applications.Default Applications allows you to set a default
web browser. Would it be possible to specify a different web browser to open
specific URLs (or URLs conforming to specified patterns)?

For example, I want to have Firefox as the browser to open most URLs. However,
if someone sends me a URL for a Microsoft Teams meeting (which, as far as I can
tell, all begin "https://teams.microsoft.com/l/meetup-join";) then I would like
to specify Chrome instead. Moreover, I have the Teams Progressive Web
Application (PWA) installed in Chrome, and ideally I would like to be able to
specify that any Teams meeting URL is opened using the Chrome Teams PWA rather
than just the general Chrome browser.

(NB While System Settings.Applications.File Associations allows you to specify
different applications for different file extensions, I don't see any
equivalent for URLs.)

Thanks and regards

Without the "Clear and Overwrite" switch, the function works as expected!
Excellent!

Question:
Why doesn't work like this by default in digiKam?
Why no "Clear and Overwrite" switch in the basic user interface?

Map plus geotagged images

I have installed digiKam version 8.0. This is supposed to display geotagged
images on a map. This is an important application for which there currently
appears to be only one program that can do this Adobe Lightroom. For those of
us who do not use Lightroom, digiKam should be a very useful alternative.

Unfortunately digikam 8.0 does not work for me. I was able to open a folder of
geotagged files and when I pressed the MAP button, I obtained a screen map of
the United Kingdom as shown in the attachment. The circles seem to indicate 52
RAW images (all geotagged) plus 55 JPG images of which 52 are geotagged. I am
unable to enlarge this map any further.

I had expected to be able to enlarge this map further and as it expanded
thumbnail sized images to be shown where each image was taken.

Could you kindly advise if this is likely to be a forthcoming upgrade.

You might like to be aware that the new owner of Olympus cameras has withdrawn
there support for displaying geotagged images on a computer monitor, even
though they upgraded the app for adding geotags.

Photo of digicam 8.1 at maximum magnification

I reported yesterday that I was unable to display geotagged images on version
8.0 on Windows 10 pro 64 bit. I have now loaded version 8.1.

This does now seem to recognise the the geotagged images as shown on the
attached photo of the map of the UK showing a thumbnail. However I still
appear unable to expand the map to the point where the separate images are
shown. The image of the screen is the highest magnification available.

I would encourage you to develop this program since there are now very few
programs available for displaying geotagged images on a Windows pc

Thanks Maik

Kindly remember that I am a _very_ new user to digiKam. Most of the
words you use are meaningless to me.

The structure of the manual is only logical to those who know how to use
it and as far as I can see there are no examples given for new users to
follow.

You have a potentially very useful product but at the moment it is
unintelligible for new users.  I have over 50 years experience of
photography and computing (my degree subject) but am struggling badly.

Could you kindly provide me with some guidance as to how I manually
switch to openstreetmap.map.

Many thanks

Peter

Thank you

This is the first program I've found that has displayed geotagged images
correctly located on a map that doesn't require quite excessive
charges.  I will be making a donation shortly.  Well done to all involved.

My only criticism is that is is a bit "clunky".  I'm running this on a
very fast computer with an excess of both volatile and non-volatile
memory that I designed and had made for AI processing of photographic
images.  On a more regular computer specification the time taken say
between map magnifications would be quite long.  As a suggestion maybe
you could restrict the total map size to twice the area over which the
images were taken?

If it would be of use I would be happy to write up a simple guide as to
how to display geotagged images.  This would be a simple illustrated
document that anybody new to digiKam would be able to follow without bug
reporting etc. - Let me know if you are interested.

Thanks

Peter Moran

2023-04-29 Thread Peter
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=411099

Hi Maik.
* Before starting the search, digiKam shows irrelevant results
* The search cannot be stopped! In the case of 200,000 photos, the search takes
several minutes, until digikam finishes the search, it does not respond to
starting a new search!
* The search starts immediately when the user clicks on the search tab,
although the results are usually already irrelevant.
* The user must use a trick to circumvent this action.

Yes, this is still valid problem (in 8.1.0 too).

I've been posting about this on reddit - r/kubuntu - and someone said this:
"It's a Kubuntu thing. I tried it on Fedora 38 KDE a few weeks ago and it
worked fine, both rpm and flatpak."

Also, I've looked at the terminal output that you asked for, Jack, and did a
search for the hspell Hebrew thing. I don't use a Hebrew dictionary, so
wouldn't have installed it, although I may have downloaded a file that included
Hebrew text at some point as I went through a bit of a biblical history phase
several years back. However, that was long before I installed Kubuntu and
probably before I even owned this machine.

This post suggests a solution for a related problem with Kate:
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=421451 It seems a bit odd, though. Why
would a music player bundle with a dictionary for a language other than the
system one?

It would often be nice to share the tags you create with other users.
Unfortunately digiKam does not support export the tags to a text file and
reading it from a text file.
Sharing and expanding tags would be very easy in a multi-user environment, but
using different databases.
Example:
Open tag manager --> Sync Export --> Export tags in text file
