krdc now saves the username in the URL saved in the bookmark and in kwallet
This means that if you reopen the same connection, the username will be
correctly used.
If you create a new connection to the same host without specifying an username
the credentials won't be provided.
After all, you may want to be able to connect to the same host using different

[plasmashell] [Bug 501436] Icons in hidden view feel too large

2025-03-15 Thread Nate Graham
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=501436

It's something we would need to address — if it's decided that it's worth
addressing — in our icon loader implementation(In reply to varlesh from comment
#15)
> The key word here is "only". Because if on icon theme available
> "foo-symbolic" 22px and "foo" 32px icons - the "foo-symbolic" icon will
> still be used for hidden menu, ignoring the dimensions and scaling the icon
> from 22px to 32px size.
Oh, I see what you mean now. This does seem like an issue. Can you please open
a bug report about this specifically in frameworks-kiconthemes? Thanks a lot!

> You haven't answered the question why not just add a fixed and scalable size
> option for the hidden menu? It solves a lot of problems!
Because it would be over-configurability. If there, why not also in every other
place where icons are shown, too? This issue is better fixed at a lower level
like our icon loader where it can work better everywhere with no configuration
needed.

x11: Update XStacking order when adding override-redirect windows

Kwin uses it's own stacking order for managed windows and X11's stacking
order directly for unmanaged windows.

The X11 stacking order is updated only in resonse to
XCB_CONFIGURE_NOTIFY on the root window, but if this fires before the
window is mapped by kwin the window is not added to the unmanaged stack.

This can leave things out of sync when we have multiple fullscreen
unmanaged windows, which is the case of the lockscreen.

If it's a feature request, describe the thing that you want to be able to do,
that you currently can't do. Several different things could possibly be asked
for on this topic - all of which, if implemented, would kind of get after the
general comment that you referenced, but lead to different results:
ex. "I would like to be able to click on a widget, or use a keyboard shortcut,
to reset the dividing line between Quick Tiled windows to the 50-50 default"
or "I would like Quick Tiling to 'snap' to pre-defined suggested proportions,
including 50-50, 67-33 and 75-25"
or "I would like Quick Tiling to 'forget' the current dividing line between
windows, once no windows are in a Quick Tiled state"
or "I would like to be able to toggle on/off whether Quick Tiling remembers the
dividing line between windows, once no windows are in a Quick Tiled state"

etc. I personally don't think requests about the topic are worthless at all -
they just need to be written clearly, specific, and actionable so they can be
evaluated.

[plasmashell] [Bug 501295] New: GTK apps do not register in Task Manager

2025-03-15 Thread lp
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=501295

Bug ID: 501295
Summary: GTK apps do not register in Task Manager
Classification: Plasma
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: master
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
Component: Task Manager and Icons-Only Task Manager widgets
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: paul...@gmail.com
CC: qydwhotm...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: 1.0

Since last Friday (more or less) GTK apps do not appear in my icons-only task
manager. This also means that for apps that I had previously pinned to the task
manager, the button always behaves as if the app is closed, i.e. starting a new
instance.

This applies for GTK apps, both from system (i.e. Firefox and Thunderbird from
deb repository) and from flatpak (for example re.sonny.tangram). The only
exception I could find is Gimp, which appear correctly. Inkscape segfaults
immediately on start.

These GTK apps also do not register with the "Application Title Bar" plasmoid,
which remains blank.

I'm using KDE Neon 6.3 (aka 24.04) update to today.

2025-03-15 Thread Ellie

I have since found out that the filename being erased is Maliit's spell check
mode. So I assume that part isn't fixed, but probably not a KIO frameworks
problem, and it seems like the plan is to move to another on-screen keyboard
anyway. Perhaps this ticket should therefore be closed.

   Version: 24.12.3
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: major
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: dolphin-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: agap...@hotmail.com
CC: kfm-de...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
I have a Samba server that I connect to remotely via wireguard. If I connect
via wireguard and do not open the network drive (it is unmounted, but I get
same issue mounted) I can open/close dolphin with no issues. But if I open the
network directory and perform some action (while saving a file for example),
and then turn off wireguard once it completes - dolphin becomes slow to
open/respond until i reboot pc. This is an issue only when i am away from home
and don't have my samba share on the same network.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. turn on wireguard vpn
2. open non-mounted samba network share in dolphin
3. perform an action
4. close wireguard

OBSERVED RESULT
Dolphin becomes slow and unresponsive

EXPECTED RESULT
Dolphin is fast as usual

[kde] [Bug 501300] New: Window Decorations take on scale of the farthest left monitor rather than the primary monitor

2025-03-15 Thread bugzilla_noreply
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=501300

Bug ID: 501300
Summary: Window Decorations take on scale of the farthest left
monitor rather than the primary monitor
Classification: I don't know
   Product: kde
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Fedora RPMs
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: unassigned-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: sillym...@proton.me
  Target Milestone: ---

Created attachment 179266
  --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=179266&action=edit
png showcasing problem

SUMMARY
Navigation buttons on the window decorations follow the scaling of the monitor
who's position is set to the farthest left, rather than, more expectantly,
following the highest scale or the scale of the primary monitor, resulting in
said elements appearing highly blurred and pixelated if the scale is lower on
the farthest left monitor

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Have 2 or more monitors
2. Increase the scale of the primary monitor (set it to 175%, for example)
3. Set the scale of the farthest left monitor to something smaller than the
primary's (like 100%)

OBSERVED RESULT
Navigation buttons appear blurry and pixelated (more noticeable on third party
themes such as Scratchy)

EXPECTED RESULT
Navigation buttons appear crisply at the scale set by the primary monitor

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux/KDE Plasma: Nobara Linux 41
KDE Plasma Version: 6.3.80
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.13.0
Qt Version: 6.8.2

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
This problem really hinders people themeing their KDE, as they're forced to
either have the same display scale on all monitors, which isn't ideal on
smaller resolutions, or have their highest scaled monitor on the left

[kwin] [Bug 498015] Monitor brightness reverts to 0% when reconnected and whenever HDR is enabled

2025-03-15 Thread bugzilla_noreply
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=498015

--- Comment #5 from naohosh...@protonmail.com ---
As of the latest OpenSUSE updated, I'm on version 6.3.2 - since this update
things have improved slightly, but brightness still doesn't appear to be
functioning correctly.

The brightness keeps the correct brightness at boot up and I'm no longer
experiencing brightness changes when I disconnect/reconnect the monitor.
However, the HDR issue still remains.

But to answer the questions from your comment:

> If you change the brightness in Plasma, does the monitor brightness change as
> well? (with HDR and without are different, please test both)

Changing brightness in Plasma changes the monitor brightness, and this seems to
be the case both with and without HDR.

> Please turn HDR off, set brightness to 100% on the monitor and in Plasma,
> then run
> killall org_kde_powerdevil; WAYLAND_DEBUG=1 /usr/libexec/org_kde_powerdevil
> 2>1 | grep brightness
> and enable HDR, and then paste the output of that command here.

Unfortunately this command just hangs on my system and doesn't provide any
output.

> Afterwards, if you put POWERDEVIL_NO_DDCUTIL=1 into /etc/environment and
> reboot, does the issue still happen?

The issue still occurs even with POWERDEVIL_NO_DDCUTIL=1 unfortunately.

Ah, you are right – if I add the weather widget to the desktop, it is NOT added
to the appletsrc config file in the first place! It will just update some
coordinates, but does not create a new entry for the weather widget.

But you can still reproduce the bug with my config file:
1) Create a new account
2) Replace the default appletsrc config file with mine
4) add the weather widget
5) logout and login
6) weather widget is gone

[plasmashell] [Bug 501282] New: plasmashell locks up for 5 seconds because of clipboard problems with freerdp + SDL 3 (Wayland mode)

2025-03-15 Thread Shmerl
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=501282

Bug ID: 501282
Summary: plasmashell locks up for 5 seconds because of
clipboard problems with freerdp + SDL 3 (Wayland mode)
Classification: Plasma
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: 6.3.2
  Platform: Debian testing
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: shtetl...@gmail.com
CC: k...@davidedmundson.co.uk
  Target Milestone: 1.0

When using freerdp 3.13.0 with SDL 3 (Wayland mode forced with
SDL_VIDEODRIVER='wayland'), and trying to copy some text from remote Windows
session, copying is failing, but at the same time plasmashell locks up for
around 5-6 seconds (cursor works, but all widgets are frozen and can't be
interacted with).

May be something is doing blocking I/O for clipboard operations on the
plasmashell side? The underlying failure might be a problem with SDL 3 (my
current version is 3.2.8), but at the same time plasmashell could handle that
better and not use blocking I/O and hang when some Wayland clients misbehave
like that during cursor data operations.

OS: Debian testing
Plasma: 6.3.2
Qt: 6.8.2
SDL: 3.2.8
freerdp: 3.13.0

[dolphin] [Bug 501308] New: VLC fails to play media files from an SMB share after restarting Dolphin

2025-03-15 Thread Marie
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=501308

Bug ID: 501308
Summary: VLC fails to play media files from an SMB share after
restarting Dolphin
Classification: Applications
   Product: dolphin
   Version: 24.12.3
  Platform: NixOS
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: minor
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: dolphin-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: m...@nycode.dev
CC: kfm-de...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
When trying to open media files with VLC from an mDNS-discovered non-public SMB
share with Dolphin and restarting Dolphin once, VLC fails to open the files.
This only happens when you don't save the credentials when asked.
I noticed that VLC receives a kio_fuse path before restarting.
After the restart it receives an smb:// url, which fails since the share
requires credentials.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Remove saved SMB share from dolphin
2. Close dolphin
3. Delete SMB share credentials in KWalletManager
4. Open Dolphin
5. View the share in the dolphin SMB discovery, login *without* saving the
credentials
6. Try to play a media file with VLC from the share, it receives a kio_fuse
mounted path
7. Restart dolphin
8. Try to play a media file again, it receives an smb:// url and fails to play
it

OBSERVED RESULT
VLC receives a smb:// url

EXPECTED RESULT
VLC should receive a kio_fuse path

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Operating System: NixOS 25.05
KDE Plasma Version: 6.3.2
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.11.0
Qt Version: 6.8.2
Kernel Version: 6.13.6 (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: Wayland
Processors: 32 × AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D 16-Core Processor
Memory: 62.4 GiB of RAM
Graphics Processor: AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
I think there's something wrong with the special handling of VLC,
maybe Dolphin thinks after a restart that the share is now a public one, since
the credentials were not saved?
I was not able to reproduce it when I clicked that credentials should be saved.
Also only reproducible when using the SMB network discovery.

  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED

gbd trace

SUMMARY
Plasmashell freeze or update very slowly (a few minutes per update) when a
secondary display is connected.
Removing the display will not unfreeze plasma unless you run "systemctl --user
restart plasma-plasmashell" in a terminal.
Running "systemctl --user restart plasma-plasmashell" while having a secondary
display will not fix the issues. It freezes again after being restarted.
Attempting to open apps or widgets while plasmashell is frozen will also take a
very long time.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Log in into KDE with a secondary display
2. Wait a few seconds
3. Plasmashell will start updating slowly then freeze

OBSERVED RESULT
1- Plasmashell freeze on login
2- Removing the display than running "systemctl --user restart
plasma-plasmashell" will fix the issue
3- Adding back the display after cause the issue again.

I have it set to auto currently. I went to try both the other options but when
I did transparency on everything in the video stopped working all together and
everywhere there should be transparency there is just black... I changed it
back and reopened the program but it is still doing the same thing... Hopefully
that is not going to be a problem next time I go to edit...

[kwin] [Bug 501318] New: When performing switching between windows of the current application starting from an XWayland window, Wayland windows of the same application are not displayed

2025-03-15 Thread bugzilla_noreply
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=501318

Bug ID: 501318
Summary: When performing switching between windows of the
current application starting from an XWayland window,
Wayland windows of the same application are not
displayed
Classification: Plasma
   Product: kwin
   Version: git-stable-Plasma/6.3
  Platform: Fedora RPMs
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: tabbox
  Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: sergeyprotsero...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY

If I have an XWayland window of a KDE application focused, and perform the
"Switch between windows of current application" action (Alt+` by default), only
other XWayland windows of the same application are displayed in the selection
list, but not Wayland windows of the same application.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE

1. Open two copies of KWrite, forcing one of them to run under XWayland, for
example, like this: `WAYLAND_DISPLAY= kwrite`
2. Focus the XWayland copy of KWrite
3. Perform the "Switch between windows of current application" action (Alt+` by
default)

OBSERVED RESULT

Only the current window (running under XWayland) is displayed in the selection
list

EXPECTED RESULT

Both windows, one running under Wayland and one running under XWayland, should
be displayed in the selection list

Hi Andy,
It looks like you used a Face Size setting of Small or Extra-Small. If you
rescan the images with a setting of Large or Extra Large it will remove the
tiny faces automatically. If you've already tagged/confirmed the faces you
want in the image, then use Extra Large and digiKam will remove most of the
face rectangles automatically.

Cheers,
Mike

[Discover] [Bug 501491] New: Shows "Applications cannot be loaded" on start page for Devuan

2025-03-15 Thread Martin Steigerwald
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=501491

Bug ID: 501491
Summary: Shows "Applications cannot be loaded" on start page
for Devuan
Classification: Applications
   Product: Discover
   Version: 6.3.2
  Platform: Debian unstable
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: PackageKit
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: mar...@lichtvoll.de
CC: aleix...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY

Plasma Discover shows "Applications cannot be loaded, please check your
internet connection" (translated from German language) on start page. Network
is of course fully operational. I believe this issue is related to lack of
support of the distribution I chose: Devuan.

As terminal output indicates this might be related to downstream projects
PackageKit and AppStream:

I am willing to report issues for these downstream projects and reference them
here. If you have a little advice on how to do that in a way that is most
helpful, please share. Otherwise I try to look for their bug trackers myself
and report in any way I see fit. But maybe you have some helpful tips.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE

1. Run Plasma Discover on Devuan Ceres.

OBSERVED RESULT

"Applications cannot be loaded, please check your internet connection" on start
page.

In Konsole output:

[…]
PackageKitBackend: No distro component found for "org.devuan.devuan"
[…]
AppStreamIntegration: No distro component found for "org.devuan.devuan"

EXPECTED RESULT

Works on Devuan which is basically just a fork of Debian with another init
system than Systemd.

Also for the error message: Gives a meaningful error message. This is certainly
not about a non working internet connection.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS

Linux/KDE Plasma: Devuan Ceres which is based on Debian Unstable

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=501446

Ah, it seems you've found the problem. Kwin was still at version 6.2.5, because
the window decorations I was using (klassy) were not updated to 6.3.x, and thus
required the old libkdecorations2 shared lib. Removed klassy, and
force-upgraded kwin to the latest version and it all works now. Thanks for the
help.

While that's fixed, my original bug report still seems valid in the sense that
powerdevil should not unconditionally fail when the Wayland connection cannot
be established. For example, it handles just fine the fact my battery has no
charge thresholds that can be user-settable. But losing battery information
because of a conflict of my window manager seems a bit unrelated...

[digikam] [Bug 501554] The date is wrong: simply put the date inside digiKam is not the "media created" date.

2025-03-15 Thread Maik Qualmann
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=501554

The encoding date is March 10, but digiKam and ExifTool don't use this as the
creation date, but rather the media creation date, which is March 16. Normally,
the encoding date and media creation date are the same.

I see it this way: even if the frames were created on March 10, the video
itself was first created as media on March 16. ((:-))

this bug still persists with kate 24.12.3 and is super annoying. I finally
worked around this issue by removing write permission from stash directory. So
now kate every now and then tells me that it needs permission to stash, without
actually stashing.

Hi - I tested this with the live ISOs for KDE Neon and EndeavourOS, and was
able to correctly set the time zone on both live systems. This would appear to
be an issue with how the Fedora live ISOs are put together. If you're
interested, the following thread might be related:
https://discussion.fedoraproject.org/t/fedora-live-version-should-be-more-i8n-frendly-and-less-en-us-eastern-centric/118728

But ultimately, this appears to be something that would need addressed by the
Fedora folks.

Thanks!

Thank you for the bug report!

Debian advises users to not submit bugs upstream
(https://www.debian.org/Bugs/Reporting), and Plasma 5.27.5 is no longer
eligible for support or maintenance from KDE. It's possible that the issue
exists only in Debian at this point.

Could you report the bug to Debian using the report bug utility
(https://packages.debian.org/stable/utils/reportbug)? If necessary, the
maintainer of the package will forward the bug upstream.
Thanks for understanding!

Thanks again!
