Thanks, Steve.

I’ve tried just putting “M: “ in front of a few of the names in the memo filed,
sorting by memo field and then using Cmd-F to search for “M: “ contained in the
memo field, and that looks promising.

The transaction report derived from this won’t produce sub-totals by member,
but the Gift Aid claim has to be itemised by date so that’s not a huge problem.

I’ll polish it and report back.

When I came in check & repair was in an infinite loop in accounts receivable.

The progress log shows it counting up to about 1000 out 6614 and then
restarting at 0. Not clear whether a profile of check and repair is useful.
System is relatively unresponsive while I try to interrupt it

To keep it simple, let’s say you only have one rental property, and receive
rent for it at intervals throughout the year, recording this income in
Income:Rent.

Open the Income:Rent account, and right-click on any of the transactions in
that account.

Choose the “Filter By…” option.

Select an appropriate date range.

Job done!

If you set a future date range, no transactions will be visible - as if you’d
set up a completely new set of books. If you choose the start and end dates of
a previous financial year, you’ll see the transactions for that year.

There is no need to Close Books in GnuCash when moving into a new financial
year, and there is no need to set up a new GnuCash file for each financial
year, the way you would have done when keeping pen-and-ink records.

If you feel you need to start a new year but carry forward the chart of
accounts without the old year’s transactions, I think you can do this with File
=> New File - I’m not sure of the details, and have never tried this.

Re: [GNC] Get no suitable back end found

2021-02-08 Thread David Cousens
Nigel,

Not sure with Windows 10 but on Linux this would likely be not having one of
either libdbd-mysql, libdbd-pgsql or libdbd-sqlite3 runtime libraries
installed. AFAIK GnuCash on Windows 10 uses the Cygwin Linux emulator so
the cygwin version of these should work if they are not already installed.
They should be located under the /usr/local directory for the cygwin package
on Windows. If you are running a flatpak version it may be a problem wit
the flatpak permissions setup. You will find a lot of posts in the mailing
list archive around this.

The Nabble web interface
http://gnucash.1415818.n4.nabble.com/GnuCash-User-f1415819.html is not a bad
method of searching the archives although not officially part of the GnuCash
team supported environment

See https://www.gnucash.org/docs/v4/C/gnucash-guide/basics-files1.html and
http://libdbi.sourceforge.net/download.html for more info.

[GNC] Credit Card payment pop-up doesn't appear on *some* credit card accounts after reconcile

2021-02-08 Thread Robert Stocker
I'm using GnuCash v. 4.2 on Linux Mint and have a strange problem: on some
of my credit card accounts, after I complete the reconcile process, I get
the pop-up window that lets me go ahead and enter the payment information
for that bill. That is my desired state.

But on some of them, I do NOT get that pop-up, and that sometimes causes me
to miss recording the payment in my register until later, which is
frustrating.

Did I perhaps click a "do not show this" box at some point? And if so, how
do I reset that?

Thanks for your help!

If you mean GnuCash installed by gnucash-4.4-setup.exe from our download sites,
it doesn't and they won't, but they're already included along with the
necessary MySQL, Postgresql, and SQLite3 libraries in c:\Program Files

Re: [GNC] Frustration

2021-02-08 Thread David Cousens
Andrew,

As Michael pointed out, there is no real need in GnuCash to start a new file
each year. The report structure is designed to produce appropriate reports
as required. You just need to setup the options for the report after opening
a copy of the report.in the window (menu is context sensitive).

If you do need to create a new file for some reason, use the
File->Export->Export Account Tree to CSV to export your account structure,
the Fuile->NewFile to open a new file.In the setup wizard you cannot proceed
if you Clear All but if you select the Simple Check Book only two accounts
are setup and these are easily deleted. Finish the Wizard. You can then
delete the Checking account and Opening balances and then import your
account structure from the CSV file you previously exported with
File->Import->Import Accounts from CSV. You will need to setup the
preferences for the new book/file to match your previous settings and the
accounting period for your jurisdiction.

[GNC] migrating reports from 2.6.19 to 4.4

2021-02-08 Thread Elmar
Good evening - I have installed 4.4 on both my partitions (win 10 via
the exe, and linux mint via the flatpak).  I was running much earlier
versions (3.8 on win10, and 2.6.18 on Linux).  My reports show up if I
put the contents of the old gnucash (or .gnucash) folders into the
appropriate folders on each partition, and they run.  BUT, they
disappear as soon as I close the program.  And on the windows side, it
CTD as soon as I try to delete an old report - why I don't know.  Is
there a log file I can upload to diagnose this?

under Register >> Reconciling and see if "Automatic credit card payment" is
checked on or off (see attached).

Re: [GNC] Credit Card payment pop-up doesn't appear on *some* credit card accounts after reconcile

2021-02-08 Thread David H
Try toggling it off and on to see if it resets all cards ? I normally
don't use this at all so I have it unchecked as I rely on scheduled
txn's to enter my monthly cc payment. I just went into preferences and
checked it on then did a dummy reconciliation of one of my cards. At the
end of the process I got the popup to enter the payment details so
obviously turning it on resets something somewhere :-) Sometimes you just
have to play around with these things

2021-02-08 Thread David Cousens
The information on file locations for GnuCash is
https://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/Configuration_Locations. Note there is a
location change for the user preference files and saved reports between
2.6.x and 3.x which may be the cause of your difficulties. There will be
further information in the archives of the mailing list around the time 3.1
was released if the above is not clear.. You may need to copy any saved
reports from th old 2.6 location to the new location for 3.x on.

I'm sure its an individual account setting.
However, if one made an error and made a credit card a regular

Re: [GNC] Credit Card payment pop-up doesn't appear on *some* credit card accounts after reconcile

2021-02-08 Thread David H
Yes I know it's an individual account setting that can be turned off
individually for some cc's, by cancelling at the right point in time (is it
on the "Transfer Funds" dialog?), it's not very intuitive whatever it is.
Turning it on seems to make it active for ALL of my cc's which I turned it
off for years ago and that is the result that the OP wants, so all I'm
suggesting is that they try that and see if it resolves the problem. This
assumes that they have setup their cc's as credit card accounts but no
doubt we will find out in time as they will read Adrien's email also and
check that before reporting back.

Cheers David H.
