The information on file locations for GnuCash is https://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/Configuration_Locations. Note there is a location change for the user preference files and saved reports between 2.6.x and 3.x which may be the cause of your difficulties. There will be further information in the archives of the mailing list around the time 3.1 was released if the above is not clear.. You may need to copy any saved reports from th old 2.6 location to the new location for 3.x on.
