[Bug 92059] [radeonsi, apitrace] Missing textures and geometry in "Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor"

2016-04-25 Thread bugzilla-dae...@freedesktop.org

--- Comment #22 from Christoph Haag  ---
(In reply to Edwin Smith (Feral Interactive) from comment #21)
> Ernst Sjstrand, the build is unlikely to be released publicly until the
> compute shaders are checked into git

FYI (and for the people who are testing and are not aware):

1. Compute Shaders for radeonsi have been checked into git 6 days ago:
https://cgit.freedesktop.org/mesa/mesa/commit/?id=464cef5b06e65aa740704e4adac68b7f5fee1b88

2. Compute Shaders for radeonsi require a recent llvm 3.9 svn build.

3. For some (SI only?) GPUs, compute shaders will be disabled even with Linus'
current git master of the kernel, but will work with the drm-next-4.7-wip
branch from this repository:
https://cgit.freedesktop.org/~agd5f/linux/log/?h=drm-next-4.7-wip
(I heard it's because this here is needed:
https://cgit.freedesktop.org/~agd5f/linux/commit/?h=drm-next-4.7-wip&id=974cf6cc403d881b9fa939cb2afed19d53afab21)

4. OpenGL 4.3 is not enabled because the mesa devs first want to solve some
problems with unreal engine 4, so if you want to test Shadow of Mordor, Alien
Isolation, etc. you still need to set
MESA_GL_VERSION_OVERRIDE=4.3 MESA_GLSL_VERSION_OVERRIDE=430.

Bug ID: 95133
   Summary: X-COM Enemy Within crashes when entering tactical
mission with Bonaire
   Product: Mesa
   Version: 11.2
  Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64)
OS: Linux (All)
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Drivers/Gallium/radeonsi

apitrace from the starting of the game until entering of a tactical mission and
subsequent crash

X-Com Enemy Within from Steam crashes when entering a tactical mission. The
globe part of the game works just fine. This happens with AMD Radeon R7 360 gpu
which I just installed. I had previously HD5750 (Juniper) which ran the game
just fine. The crash happens always when entering a tactical mission.

Apitrace and other logs are attached.

I'm running Gentoo.

Installed package versions:
x11-drivers/xf86-video-amdgpu 1.1.0
media-libs/mesa 11.2.1
kernel 4.5.1
x11-base/xorg-server 1.18.3

Keep in mind that the RC410 is a very old chip which lacks many features that
modern games require.

If you do a brief search on Steam forums, you'll find many discussions of
similar "error messages" regarding TF2. It seems some people have had luck by
hacking the driver to pretend that it supports certain features, but it seems
safe to say that your hardware is simply too old.

--- Comment #11 from Nicolai Hhnle  ---
Well, you can open /proc/$pid/maps and read it, but that is inefficient and
hackish. I don't know of a nice way to determine the total number of open mmaps
in a process.

One possible approach we'd discussed is indeed to maintain a LRU list of open
mappings and close the oldest one when a certain threshold number is reached.
This might be the easiest way to avoid the crashes, but some applications might
be hurt in terms of performance, if they expect to be able to update those
small buffers often.

As a temporary workaround, the error should disappear when you run with the
environment variable setting R600_DEBUG=mono.

The cause is that with non-monolithic shaders, input interpolation happens in
the prolog. However, when we compile the prolog we do not see the derivative
computations and therefore fail to turn the helper pixels on.

Juho-Mikko, thank you for the report. Unfortunately, the apitrace you attached
is of the pre-game launcher and not of the game itself. There should be a
separate, much larger trace file of the game itself. It should be too large to
attach in Bugzilla, use e.g. Google Drive.

That said, I can reproduce the crash here with my local copy of the game.

This is not fixed at all:
- there is probably several other videocards from other vendors which don't
works (the Gigabyte "GV-R737WF2OC-2GD" for instance)
- the quirk added underclocks the mclock from 5600 MHz to 4800 MHz, so you
don't get the full performance you are expecting

It looks like it's related to 94874 only kernel versions differ.

If the commit is reverted from the 4.4.y and 4.5.y this could be marked as
solved.

Separate non-recursive part out of visit(ir_expression) to reduce stack

Hi Christoph, could you try the attached patch? It fixes a similar crash for
me.

It's a bit surprising that you "only" see a 4KB stack frame, because in my
case, glsl_to_tgsi_visitor::visit(ir_expression *) had a ~32KB stack frame...

(In reply to smidjar2.reg from comment #6)
> I disassembled ApplyConstants() where the game crashes when using OpenGL

I spent a while poking at this crash in gdb, and I was definitely seeing the
same segfault at the same instruction and call-stack.

I've sent a (one-line!) patch to mesa-dev that fixes this segfault on startup:

https://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/mesa-dev/2016-April/114614.html

And a Piglit patch that tests for the non-conforming behavior that led to this
crash:

https://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/mesa-dev/2016-April/114613.html

Thanks to Karol Herbst's mesa-dev post, linked from comment #7, for pointing me
in the right direction to find this Mesa bug.

Granted, the game developers ought to check for errors returned from
glLinkProgram and fail more gracefully than a segfault, but I doubt we're going
to get them to do *that*...

I can now play this game somewhat successfully on i965 with
MESA_GL_VERSION_OVERRIDE=4.2. There are still plenty of rendering bugs I
haven't dug into yet, but I played for an hour without crashes, at least!

I don't have (or particularly want) a commit bit on Mesa or Piglit, so now we
need somebody to review and hopefully merge these patches.

The game seems to be trying to use GL_ARB_shader_texture_lod without checking
if the extension is available. I would report that with the game and/or EON
wrapper) developers - no program should ever do that.

Based on the gallium code PIPE_CAP_SM3 (the toggle used to control the
extension) is "/* Supported on r500 only. */". I'm not familiar with the
hardware capabilities, but I'm leaning that this might be it.

drm/amdgpu: keep vm in job instead of ib

ib.vm is a legacy way to get vm, after scheduler
implemented vm should be get from job, and all ibs
from one job share the same vm, no need to keep ib.vm
just move vm field to job.

this patch as well add job as paramter to ib_schedule
so it can get vm from job->vm.

Easy to provoke with powerplay=1 and auto clocks. Harder to provoke, but also
happens with powerplay=0.

dmesg with Oops attached.

The public version of Shadow of Mordor worked fine for me, so I don't think
this is a dupe of #92059.

However there's a beta (v1.1?) that supports compute shaders and GL 4.3.
If I run it with MESA_GL_VERSION_OVERRIDE=4.3 MESA_GLSL_VERSION_OVERRIDE=430
and set texture quality to Medium, I get missing geometry as the attached
picture.

I'm trying to apitrace it but unfortunately the error doesn't appear when
running under apitrace.
Also, glretrace refuses to work with forced gl-versions?
I either get:
MESA_GL_VERSION_OVERRIDE=4.3 MESA_GLSL_VERSION_OVERRIDE=430 glretrace
ShadowOfMordor.2.trace
error: context mismatch: expected OpenGL 1.0, but got OpenGL 4.3 core

Or:
glretrace ShadowOfMordor.2.trace
error: xlib: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)
error: xlib: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)
error: failed to create OpenGL 4.3 core context.

--- Comment #2 from Ernst Sjstrand  ---
I get very different behavior if I patch Mesa to report 4.3 support vs.
MESA_GL_VERSION_OVERRIDE=4.3 MESA_GLSL_VERSION_OVERRIDE=430. Is that intended?
There's no environment variable that behaves like if I did such a Mesa patch?

Short story, much fewer issues (or harder to repro?) when patching Mesa to
report 4.3.

[Bug 95206] Display port bandwidth regression

2016-04-29 Thread bugzilla-dae...@freedesktop.org
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=95206

Bug ID: 95206
   Summary: Display port bandwidth regression
   Product: DRI
   Version: unspecified
  Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64)
OS: Linux (All)
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: DRM/Radeon
  Assignee: dri-devel at lists.freedesktop.org
  Reporter: barneyman at gmx.de

Hi,

I have a mobile laptop (Dell Precision M4600) with an external monitor (Dell
U2414H) connected via display port.

Starting with mainline kernel 4.5.x I'm unable to connect the monitor with mode
(1920x1080p), instead the highest available option is 1920x1080i (interlaced)
which produces heavy flickering on the monitor and makes it unable to use at
all. Forcing the monitor into 1920x1080p (using xrandr --newmode, --addmode and
--mode) causes a total signal loss, however forcing the monitor into
1920x1080p at 30hz makes the monitor available again. If I connect the monitor
using DVI/HDMI 1080p at 60hz works without any problems.

So I think the problem might be that the maximum bandwidth of the display port
is reduced compared to the previous version.

Using kernel 4.4.8 the monitor is connected with 1080p using DP as expected
again. So it's definitely a regression introduced in kernel 4.5.

As a side note: the Ubuntu 16.04 kernel (4.4.0-21.37) also has this display
port problem, but as far as I know the ubuntu devs have backported large
portions of the 4.5 radeon patches.

If you need any further information (dmesg, xrandr output), don't hesitate to
ask...

Kind regards,
Christian

"bisecting" is a way to find out which commit caused a specific regression.
This involves compiling the linux kernel from git and testing the compiled
versions. If you can find out which commit is the culprit chances are pretty
good that the problem can be fixed quickly.

To learn more about bisecting I suggest seaching for "git bisect".

Frankly, I don't see how your sample is supposed to render text. The fragment
shader only accesses the font texture when nModeOut != 0u, and the value is
just passed through from the vertex buffer. According to qapitrace, nModeIn is
equal to 0 for all vertices in the final glDrawArrays call... at least based on
the apitrace, I'm pretty sure that this is not a driver bug.

I think I understand now where the bug is coming from, and I'm not sure if it's
a driver or an application bug :)

The trace uses glVertexAttribPointer instead of glVertexAttribIPointer to set
up a vertex element that will consumed by an uint GLSL variable. I kind of
suspect that that should be undefined behaviour, but I haven't found a
corresponding spec reference.

In any case, it looks like this causes different parts of the driver and the
various auxiliary tools to disagree about whether the element should be treated
as an int or as a float, and some conversion happens somewhere that makes it
all go wrong...

I can't see how that could work (I don't understand how that could work with
some drivers even). glVertexAttribPointer() means the data is really floats -
if you'd use a non-float type to specify it, it will implicitly get converted
to floats. So ok you could cheat there which would leave the data untouched (I
haven't looked at the trace), and rely on the uint input to just read that data
as-is maybe. Not sure if that could work even if you could trick the
implementation to do this - integers as floats have some bad habits, namely all
your negative numbers tend to change their value (as they are NaNs), and your
positive numbers may have some attraction to zero (as they are denorms...).
In any case, just don't do this - these different attrib pointers exist for a
reason. Also see

The shader only tests for non-zeroness, so it's possible that the difference
between radeonsi and the other drivers is that a denorm flush happens somewhere
with radeonsi and not the other drivers.

Anyway, I'm feeling lucky and closing this as NOTOURBUG for the second time

FYI, the DX10_CLAMP shader bit flushes NaNs to 0. All other floating-point

significant performance cost by setting conf->float_mode (see how it's done for

--- Comment #142 from Marek Olšák  ---
I've seen plenty of GPU hangs with XCOM: Enemy Within. It's basically the same
game with a little more content, but not much.

The reproducibility is random. The hangs usually happen between 1 minutes and 8
hours.

In my case, this is the data I've been able to obtain:
- Reproduced on everything I was testing on: Hawaii (radeon), Tonga, Polaris11
(amdgpu)
- It occurs with many different shaders, among which there are a few very
simple ones. (no scratch or spills, a few ifs, no loops)
- Disabling HyperZ has no effect.
- Disabling CE has no effect.
- VM faults never occur.
- The hangs don't seem to have anything in common.

Action items:
- Reproduce the hang and do a hardware scan dump (it can only be done in the
AMD office AFAIK), and send it to hardware teams.

Bug ID: 97166
   Summary: lockup during gameplay of Batman series of games
   Product: Mesa
   Version: git
  Hardware: Other
OS: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
  Priority: medium
 Component: Drivers/Gallium/radeonsi
  Assignee: dri-devel at lists.freedesktop.org

QA Contact: dri-devel at lists.freedesktop.org

The games in question are:
Batman Arkham Asylum GotY Edition
Batman Arkham City GotY Edition
Batman Arkham Origins

The lockups are kind of random but happen not long after playing one of the
games.
I have tried the nine tracker and CSMT with opengl. Both exhibit the problem.
I tried different kernel versions and also the andgpu-pro module and the lockup
always happens.
The lockups dont happen with Catalyst 15.12 and wine CSMT.

There is never anything in dmesg or the X.org log.

Hardware is:

What patch(es) did you use?

[Bug 97157] MST displays fail to wake

Created attachment 125465

dmesg output with drm.debug=0xe

Adding (compressed) dmesg output with drm.debug=0xe on the kernel boot line.
Careful extracting it, it's 502MB decompressed. Unfortunately, I couldn't seem
to make the problem happen faster than over night.

Don't know if this will help or not, but it can't hurt, I suppose.

I added a function based on ci_dpm_force_state_mclk() in ci_dpm.c.

mask is 0x3.

static int ci_dpm_force_state_mclk_mask(struct amdgpu_device *adev, u32 mask) {
struct ci_power_info *pi = ci_get_pi(adev);

if (!pi->mclk_dpm_key_disabled) {
PPSMC_Result smc_result =
amdgpu_ci_send_msg_to_smc_with_parameter(adev,
PPSMC_MSG_MCLKDPM_SetEnabledMask, mask);
printk("[atomsymbol] %s:%d: mask=0x%X, ok=%d\n", __FUNCTION__,
__LINE__, mask, smc_result == PPSMC_Result_OK);
if (smc_result != PPSMC_Result_OK)
return -EINVAL;
}
return 0;
}

/sys/class/drm/card?/device/power_dpm_force_performance_level is set to "auto".

 Mobile Tonga it seems.

 @farmboy0

 Does lockups happens with regular wine?

 I remember cases when Catalyst can lockup using wine-csmt too... just a note
that wine-csmt isn't perfect always so check regular wine too.

Desktop and mobile chip have the same PCI ID, that's why I ask [1]. I might be
able to test Batman on my 380X to confirm the issue.
