Yeah - although not many people use the profile, if it's not too hard
to fix it, we should fix it. Right now, the jenkins jobs do not use
the profile and use nose to directly run the deploy script.

However, I'd recommend backporting marvin's dependency on python2.7 so
it can be run on any python>2.4. All that is required is to have
cloudstackTestCase inherit from unittest2 [1]. IMO, this will reduce a
lot of pain for those trying out marvin for the first time, going
through the tutorial and attempting to write tests using it.

[1] https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/CLOUDSTACK-4591

The marvin_refactor branch is a significant shift from the current
marvin design. It was meant to make test writing faster using
factories. This was something that Santosh had expressed concerns
about to me while I was at Citrix. I had not merged it at the time
also because of lack of time and inclination as I had decided to move
away from the project. So, unless there is interest now in that
direction to revive the effort, we should probably use a different
topic branch for any other changes.

I'd volunteer happily, but I can't make it for the same reason ...
Unless someone else volunteers, I guess what we can do is just watch
the recording afterwards and get in touch with the folks separately via

Ok I created:

https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/CLOUDSTACK-5866

Still we should fix the profile for 4.3

Actually looking at http://jenkins.buildacloud.org :

1-the checkin tests (under simulator tab) has been disabled
2-the cloudstack-qa has a failed test-matrix since 29 days

I am not super familiar with jenkins and the integration tests, but are we
running integration tests on 4.3 in jenkins.buildacloud.org ?

As PMC member I would like to see 4.3 passing tests in this public jenkins
instance before cutting an RC.

I created a 'marvin' branch for further refactor from Santhosh and others.

RE: [Proposal] Ability to retrieve user data via Admin API - 4.4

2014-01-14 Thread Paul Angus
Hi,

I have a couple of enterprise clients who would like to use userdata but don't
because they can't retrieve it again (as a 'user') making troubleshooting next
to impossible.

I agree with David. This feature is useless to me as the end-user if it's
admin-only as I could never guarantee having admin access if I decided to move
my app to another provider/cloud that I don't administer.

Santhosh, I tried this and it works.
I am pretty sure that we did not need to use the -Dsimulator before ( I
documented it without), but we can skip this.

However when accessing the UI and trying to run an instance, there are no
templates available.
The systemVMs are running.

Also, I used to be able to use nosetests as well and configure the DC with:
nosetests --with-marvin --marvin-config=setup/dev/basic.cfg

it gave me this:

$ nosetests --with-marvin --marvin-config=setup/dev/basic.cfg

Exception Occurred Under __deployDC : Execute cmd: addcluster failed, due to:

building devcloud

2014-01-14 Thread Abhinandan Prateek
Hi,
I am trying to build the devcloud on my Mac laptop. I am getting errors when
run "boxer.sh –b all” on this line:

+ vagrant basebox define devcloudbase ubuntu-12.04.1-server-i386

I looked at the wiki here:
https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/CLOUDSTACK/Building+DevCloud

Looks like this is outdated. Is anyone able to build the devcloud using the
scripts in git (Wei?). If yes then I can spend some time troubleshooting my
setup.
If possible also update on versions of various utilities used like ruby, dvm
etc.

Also, is there a link to download the latest devcloud from jenkins ?

Re: building devcloud

2014-01-14 Thread Rohit Yadav
Hi Abhi,

The code to automate devcloud building never had worked for me which
is why the last one I had published by created by hand [1]. At the
time last year there was some issue with Ubuntu, so Debian instead was
used. I can help create new version of DevCloud based on the same [1].
I guess before building devcloud using vagrant you need to build a
basebox based on the distro (ubuntu in this case) and then use that to
create xenbox (looking at the code), checkout boxer.sh as well.

I hope if we can use packer [2] which is a newer/better/faster way to
build appliances, I think if you have a running VM one should be able
to deploy on it using puppet configs in the dir (assuming the puppet
stuff is fixed and works). Earlier I had created a skeletal automation
infra based on (masterless) puppet and fabric which sets up a server
for some config and does not assume if that is a VM or baremetal but
that you've root/admin level access, I think this could be useful for
anyone who wants to setup infra in this way [3].

RE: [ACS 4.3] RC update

2014-01-14 Thread Santhosh Edukulla
Hi Sebastian,

Note1 : The nose command you are running is right ( Just use nosetests-2.7 ),
I just ran the simulator using the below mentioned commands followed by
deployDataCenter, on 4.2 and 4.3 separately, there were no errors reported on
4.2. I could see that templates were available, displayed and deployDataCenter
worked fine on 4.2 but not on 4.3 and its throwing the error you mentioned. We
will look in to it.

Note2: Regarding the templates not available in UI, we need to register the
template to work with simulator post deploy for testing ( atleast with 4.2.1 or
later ), this behavior i believe was due to some issue in simulator code in
later code and i was told to register and proceed with tests then.

Note3: Profile issue, i fixed and submitted a review.

Note4: Registering a template issue manually and below for addCluster Command,
we will look in to it. This i believe is nothing to do with marvin though.

Let me know.

Thanks!
Santhosh

Santhosh, I tried this and it works.
I am pretty sure that we did not need to use the -Dsimulator before ( I
documented it without), but we can skip this.

However when accessing the UI and trying to run an instance, there are no
templates available.
The systemVMs are running.

Also, I used to be able to use nosetests as well and configure the DC with:
nosetests --with-marvin --marvin-config=setup/dev/basic.cfg

it gave me this:

$ nosetests --with-marvin --marvin-config=setup/dev/basic.cfg

That's a good idea. I'll agree that it could be extended to users who have
rights to the instances.

ok thanks, this is important. If we want to remove the maven profile then we
need to make sure the nosetests way of configuring the DC works.

I tested it on 4.3, it seems to work but never returns. Is that the newly
expected behavior ?

your note4 and note3 seem to be talking about the same thing. My concern is
that this was working in 4.2, so if it's broken in 4.2.1 this is brand new
error.
I understand that few people use the simulator, but we should fix it in 4.3
(and apply patch to 4.2 branch as well )

Please paste the logs collected for the below command run. I can see why it is
not exiting.
mvn -Pdeveloper,marvin.setup -Dmarvin.config=setup/dev/basic.cfg -pl
:cloud-marvin integration-test

RE: [ACS 4.3] RC update

2014-01-14 Thread Santhosh Edukulla
Sebastian,

1. As such the profile issue mentioned in the bug is fixed( submitted a patch,
not yet applied ), instead of using the same bug for other issue related to
simulator, may be we can log a separate bug.
The reason being the issues reported are different and this new issue reported
is inside the simulator code if any but nothing to do with marvin though? Let
me know.

Santhosh

ok thanks, this is important.

Why i cannot set vpn on Source NAT IP ?

2014-01-14 Thread Yitao Jiang
Hi,

I set up a guest network, which tags are business, in advanced network of
acs 4.1.0.
Then i create a new network service offering taged "business'', with
StaticNat, Dhcp, PortForwarding, UserData, SourceNat, Lb, Dns, Vpn,
Firewall services.

But i did not make conserve mode on ,so when creating a vm using this
"business" network, the public ip of this isolated network cannot set vpn,
so i allocated a new public ip, and this allocated public ip can offer
vpn. However, if i make conserve mode on on the network service offering, i
can set the vpn on the source nat public ip?

What i curious is, is there any differences of above two public ips, one is
source nat public ip , and another is allocated and associated with VR?

Thanks,

Yitao

it's somewhat related: I have been working on 'simstack':
https://github.com/runseb/simstack

I am trying to run cloudstack with the simulator in a single box.
I am using it also to learn chef/puppet/salt …and provide recipes to install
cloudstack in all three confg mgt system.

kinda works..

Thanks for the reminder. I think all comments have been addressed in the next
version of the patch. I have not rewritten existing parts that could get
improved based on the comments (like StringBuilder). My preference is to keep
this patch Gluster specific and not modify unrelated bits.

Cheers,
Niels

Currently libvirt can only mount glusterfs with help from the glusterfs-fuse
client. In libvirt, this is configured as a "netfs"-pool with type=glusterfs.
In future, libvirt will be able to use the native GlusterFS protocol (through
libgfapi.so), which will result in a different type of pool.

I do not see how to write the code for a netfs+glusterfs much cleaner.

- StringBuilder changes have been applied.

I'm not sure how you intend this. It seems very common to use if-else-if
statements for this...

It follows the same concept as the existing other drivers... I'm not sure where
it would be more suitable to place this.

Review request for cloudstack.

Changes
---

Addressed all/most of the previous comments.

This change also extend the previous version of the patch, and adds support for
QEMU+libgfapi native communication. Mounting the the Gluster volume is only
used to perform management tasks on the storage pool (create, delete disks,
etc.).

Comments much appreciated, thanks,
Niels

Repository: cloudstack-git

Description
---

The support for Gluster as Primary Storage is mostly based on the
implementation for NFS. Like NFS, libvirt can address a Gluster environment
through the 'netfs' pool-type.

Re: Build failed in Jenkins: build-4.2 #55

2014-01-14 Thread David Nalley
Folks:

I disabled this build until we figure out why its failing. (it's infra
related failure not a build failure)
First, we've shipped 4.2.1 - and 4.3 is imminent.
Second, I don't know why it's failing, but am tired of being spammed.
I suspect the builder in question is out of disk space.

Archiva maven repository

2014-01-14 Thread David Nalley
Hi folks,

I became frustrated with my packaging efforts being stymied by corrupt
maven repos not providing libraries during my test builds and package
builds, so I setup my own Apache Archiva instance to keep ACS
dependencies in. Feel free to consume from it.

Re: Build issues on master (POM related)

2014-01-14 Thread Mike Tutkowski
Yeah, that's interesting...I do have Checkstyle installed and I thought I
was using the correct CloudStack style rules, but maybe I missed something:

Do you know if there is an easy way to select all the projects, turn
Checkstyle on for them all, and make them all use the same rules or does
this have to be done on a project-by-project basis?

Thanks!

checkstyle problems...

2014-01-14 Thread Alex Huang
Hi Hugo,

I see that you added the checkstyle project back in. I actually tried that
first when I made checkstyle required for the entire project. It is the
recommended procedure from the checkstyle website. Unfortunately, it causes
problems like the following exceptions in eclipse all of the time. That's why
I went with one checkstyle step for the entire cloudstack. I think given that
we have editors that can help with formatting the code, it shouldn't be that
much of a problem to do one step only. What do you think?

If we prefer the per-project checkstyle still, then we need to resolve these
problems because it happens on every recompile.

Errors occurred during the build.

Re: checkstyle problems...

2014-01-14 Thread Mike Tutkowski
I also think the way I have checkstyle configured in Eclipse causes it to
take a super long time to build. Not sure what setting I turned on to do
that, but even removing the plug-in for the time being is extremely slow
because Eclipse always wants to run checkstyle.

I would like to propose to introduce API (Admin only, 4.4) that returns user
data to the admin. Current UserData behavior:

 * userData is passed to the deployVm/updateVm call
 * its stored in CS db and on the VR
 * the only one way to retrieve the data, is to request it from the user vm
inside the network by sending http request to the Virtual Router.

We've adopted this model from Amazon EC2 APIs. But along the way I've noticed
that some third party integrators needed to read UserData by Admin to get the
information about all vms in the system/network. To solve the problem, people
were using different kinds of workarounds - db scripts to read userData from
cloudstack DB, or writing CS API extensions:
https://github.com/jasonhancock/cloudstack-api-extension.

So the API I'm proposing, will let you to retrieve User Data via Admin API. It
will be available to Root admin only.

If anyone has any objection, or see the flaws in the proposal, please signal.

-Alena.

Test Suite for Testing Remote Access VPN on VPC.

I successfully automated the following components:

1.VPN Client Installation on Linux
2.Component that efficiently verifies Remote VPN Access between client and the
Server.
3.Developed a component that automates VPN Client Configuration and services.
4.Test Cases of the Feature
5.Tested the Code multiple times on XenServer and fixed the bugs.
6.Requirement on VMWare: Default Template should be CentOS 5.5 or higher for
the test suite to work. VPN Client cannot be installed on CentOS 5.3 Default
Template on VMWare.

ACS 4.2.1 - which systemvm

2014-01-14 Thread Tomasz Zięba
Hello,

I have a simple question about ACS 4.2.1.
Which systemvm should we use for this version:

a) link from documentation
http://d21ifhcun6b1t2.cloudfront.net/templates/4.2/systemvmtemplate-2013-07-12-master-xen.vhd.bz2

b) last build from jenkins

RE: Hyper-V

2014-01-14 Thread Donal Lafferty
I'd guess that the a dodgy URL for primary storage:

"url":
"NetworkFilesystem://10.0.1.27//hypervPri/stor?user=hyperv&password=hyperv13!&domain=angusnet.local/?ROLE=Primary&STOREUUID=2bcff176-e5f3-350e-936a-7ee19a0e8658"

Can you raise a JIRA issue with the log sample below? I'd do so myself, but I
expect the fixer's gonna want to double check how you input the primary store
data to rule out a GUI issue.

I don't think it's a feature after checking the patch.

It's basically they called it "L3VPN" instead of "GRE" in the patch I think.

Question about manually deleting a template on XenServer

2014-01-14 Thread Mike Tutkowski
Hi,

I'd like to manually delete a snapshot (that was based on a template) that
we clone to spin up VMs.

If I go into XenCenter and manually delete the snapshot, that part is fine.

However, does anyone know what table is used in the DB to keep track of
whether or not this template has already been downloaded to the primary
storage in question.

When I try to spin up a VM, I get an error now because I manually deleted
the snapshot that we clone for a VM of this type. I figure someone might
now off hand what tables maintain this relationship.

Thanks!

Unable to start Virtual Router

2014-01-14 Thread SuichII, Christopher
I created a fresh, clean install earlier today and everything worked up until
trying to deploy a VM. When the virtual router attempts to start, it quickly
shuts down after spewing out:

‘[…] Stopping web server: apache2apache2: Could not reliably determine the
server’s fully qualified domain name, using for ServerName.

I’m setting up this environment the same way I have for months (as best as I
can remember). Can anyone think of why the router would fail to start like this?

Are you using master, Chris?

I've been having trouble with it...the agents' states of my VMs don't ever
seem to get into the Up state.

Maybe you're having similar trouble and it's impacting your virtual router?

CS 4.2.1 local storage stats wrong usage

2014-01-14 Thread Domenico De Monte
Hello,
before all, i am really happy to notice that with CS 4.2.1 many bugs on vmware
were fixed.

You did a great job.

I also notice that in our scenario, stats about storage usage are different
from what i expected.

We use vmware 5.1 on 2 physical server with local primary storage.

So we have 1 zone, 1 pod , 1 cluster, 2 hosts, 2 local primary storage ( each
belong to one single host ), 1 secondary storage ( mounted with nfs on esxi ).

We have a total of space around 10TB.

We create many vm for a total a 3.3TB assigned to vm ( i calculate total space
used on CS > storage > volumes ).

CS on dashboard notify us that we are using about 7.63TB ( 78%).

As you can understand there is a difference around 4TB.

On Infrastructure > primary storage > node 1 > details, we can see disk total
value ( around 5TB for node ) but disk allocated is empty.

We also have following values under global configuration:

storage.overprovisioning.factor = 2
storage.cleanup.enabled = true
storage.cleanup.interval = 86400
storage.pool.max.waitseconds = 3600
storage.stats.interval = 6 ( ms )
system.vm.use.local.storage = true

Is CS calculate wrong size or i misunderstand something?

There is a tool to recalculate manually disk usage with cli or dashboard or
api?

Waiting for your reply

vmware system vm features

2014-01-14 Thread Domenico De Monte
Hello,
i would like to let you consider some features that i think should be useful
for normal CS administration.

Could you ponder to use following features for system vm and router vm at least
for vmware ?

- system and router vm with LVM volumes ( to let admin decide to increase disk
size );
- system and router vm with 64bit OS ( in order to use more resources and
kernel features );

Could you also consider to introduce on CS with basic network configuration,
another guest network for internal traffic only between users vm?

I think this is useful in order to let users connect own vm with private subnet
without needed to use VLAN.

For example CS could create a private network for user (just a standard switch
on vmware ) and let him connect vm to it.

These are just few ideas, that should take few time to develop, but could make
CS better, i think and hope!

Just think about it.

Best regards

2014-01-14 Thread Mike Tutkowski
If anyone was curious about this, the table in question is called
template_spool_ref.

Just delete your template from XenCenter and then delete the applicable row
in that table.

Interesting idea - though I think you can do this with just resizing
partition and filesystem as well. Perhaps you can play with generating your
own system VMs though. (Look at tools/appliance/build.sh and the associated
Readme file for how to build your own)

I think there might be problems here, but not sure you can't already do
this with multiple networks; or even advanced networks with SG.

Thank you for tip. About partition resize i am not sure if it will be so fluid
to resize them. For resizing no problem.
I should also recreate custom template once volumes will be extended but in
this way i will lose all new features that you guys will add on each version!

I will read Readme and check what can i do.

From what i understand, multiple networks are working only with advanced
networks configuration and not with basic one.

I already did it with advanced network configuration but, in order to skip VLAN
usage, i had to manually force on CS, mysql database vlan id with value
untagged ( from GUI was not possible in CS 4.2.0 ).

I had also to update standard switch vlan id on vmware to untagged value and it
worked.

Basically i think it’s a simple configuration and for a basic network topology
it could be interesting.

Devcloud update for 4.3

2014-01-14 Thread Edison Su
After several fixes, devcloud is working on 4.3 branch now.
Manually create a new devcloud image(the only change to the image is to put 4.3
system vm template into /opt/storage/secondary/**/1/1/), and put it under:
http://pan.baidu.com/s/1dDkmM5r (Can't find a free place to hold 1.3G data, so
put it in a Chinese dropbox like website(which has 2T storage for free...) ).
Not sure you can download it or not. If not, then I may need help to find
another place to store the image.

That's not how we deal with patches...

Please merge them into one patch and upload to the reviewboard as diff v2

RE: Hyper-V

2014-01-14 Thread Devdeep Singh
Hi Paul,

I have put in a fix for the issue with local storage that you reported earlier
[1]. Please pull the latest changes and try. It should work now. I'll look into
the error you are facing with shared and let you know once it is fixed.

Guys,

Primary storage local or shared is still giving me grief.

See the error below from the agent log when trying to create a system VM. the
final error is

of share 10.0.1.27/hypervPri/storfailed with Error: Unknown, 1219",'
The share is \\10.0.1.27\hypervPri\stor in UNC notation.

RE: checkstyle problems...

2014-01-14 Thread Alex Huang
Yes. I do believe it runs on every eclipse recompile because it's now part of
the build for every project. I've gotten so frustrated with it, I've reverted
the commit locally but I don't know checkstyle very well so I'm hoping Hugo has
a better solution.

Bugs: CLOUDSTACK-5864
https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/CLOUDSTACK-5864

Repository: cloudstack-git

Description
---

Fixed the profile mentioned under CLOUDSTACK-5864

Diffs
-

  tools/marvin/pom.xml 0869248

Diff: https://reviews.apache.org/r/16856/diff/

Testing
---

Tested by running mvn -Pdeveloper,marvin.setup
-Dmarvin.config=setup/dev/basic.cfg -pl :cloud-marvin integration-test. It
proceeded fine with deploy Stage\step.

Note : There were other issues with simulator but i believe is independent of
this profile change.

Re: checkstyle problems...

2014-01-14 Thread Hugo Trippaers
Hey guys,

There are two ideas behind using checkstyle a i’ve currently implemented it in
the maven build. First of all it runs for every project, this means that
triggering a compile on a single module will also run the checkstyle checks on
it. So you don’t have to recompile the entire project and use the slow global
checkstyle check, but fast local audit. This also ties in with my plans to get
incremental builds going, the idea is to get Jenkins feedback on a commit
within 5 minutes of doing the commit. For this we need incremental builds which
builds only the modules that were touched by a commit (and possibly
dependents). By having checkstyle local to the module, it would be included in
such a build. Secondly by making it a maven module like this it means external
plugin developers can include the exact same maven configuration for their
project and download our checkstyle configuration using the maven framework.
Not really a big deal, but it might help when we have more separate
repositories for plugins.

The same reasoning goes for the maven license plugin, i’m testing that one in
the opendaylight plugin and it could replace the rat checks with a simple check
that would run on every module individually. But more on that later

So my preference would be to keep it as is obviously, but i’m in agreement that
it shouldn’t cause trouble when using an editor like eclipse. I’m not seeing
those issues in my eclipse at the moment, so i’ll try to reproduce them and see
if they can be fixed.

Cheers,

Hugo
