[Bug 34794] GDM won't log in with ACPI enabled (Travelmate 3000)

2006-03-21 Thread sam tygier
Public bug report changed:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/34794

Comment:
could you log in on a text terminal and run
date
to check that the date is sane. gnome wont start if the date is before 1970,
see https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/gnome-session/+bug/23426

also could you try choosing options -> session -> failsafe terminal at
the gdm screen. then running gnome-session in the terminal. this may
reveal some useful error messages.

[Bug 36774] can't eject a mounted partition from /media

Public bug reported:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/36774

Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal

 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
disks and partitons can be ejected or unmounted from the context menu
when in computer:///, but not when in /media

if you are browsing a disk and click up, do don't arrive anywhere from
which you can eject the disk. even if you got into the disk by starting
at computer:///

i propose that either:
'eject' is added to the context menu when you right click on the mount point of
any mounted disk.

when you are in /media/USBDisk and you click up, you arrive into
computer:///

i have read the discussion. i agreed with the point that if a program knows
what the user wants to do then it should do it. people who have used macs are
likely to try this two eject disk. its also useful for people with single
button mice (an accessibility thing?)

personally i'd like this, but its up to the ubuntu devs to decide.

[Bug 12154] Re: Nautilus should have a superuser mode

2006-06-11 Thread sam tygier
adding contextual menu item seems like a work around. the item should
not show up on all files. if this is done at a deeper level it could be
done better. for example you don't need to be super user to open a
system config file, so you should only be asked for them when you try to
save it.

also this is not just for system admin tasks. a parent might need to
look through a childs home folder for example.

2006-04-22 Thread sam tygier
with version 0.9.3.1-0ubuntu7 on powerpc i could not reproduce this.

i added the podcast http://labs.reuters.com/audio/news/usa/top/rss/rss.xml,

could you try upgrading to the latest version and installing rhythmbox-dbg.

[Bug 40877] Re: Dropping a desktop icon over the panel causes horrible UI munging

2006-04-23 Thread sam tygier
looks like you set the image as the panel background. the image is lable
screenshot so i assum that the top of it contains a gnome panel. now you have a
screenshot of gnome panel set as the background of gnome panel.

right click on the panel and choose properties, not go to the background tab.
you can set it back to "None".

this is all expected behaviour, so i will set the bug to rejected. if you feel
this is bad behaviour then i suppose you should reopen it.

[Bug 41623] Re: Firefox windows do not get focus when launched

2006-04-26 Thread sam tygier
this is a feature called Focus stealing prevention, google find a good
description at
http://mail.gnome.org/archives/desktop-devel-list/2004-December/msg00306.html

"Focus stealing prevention is active in Metacity. Roughly, it means
that if a window was launched at time A, and the user interacted with
a different window at time B, and B>A, then the launched window will
not be focused when it appears. This allows a user to work with an
application while impatiently waiting for that really slow app
(*cough* OpenOffice *cough*) to show up without being interrupted
mid-thought when it finally does. It also prevents those annoying
Instant Message windows from taking your keystrokes and sending them
to someone when you meant to be typing them into the application
window asking for your root password."

[Bug 41623] Re: Firefox windows do not get focus when launched

2006-04-26 Thread sam tygier
you missed a step. focus stealling is only prevented if you focus a window
while you waiting for something to load.

1.- Launch GNOME terminal
2.- Launch Epiphany.
3.- The Epiphany window appears on top of GNOME terminal as expected.
4.- Select the GNOME terminal window.
5.- Launch a new instance of Epiphany
6.- select gnome terminal, before epiphany is loaded
7.- epiphany does not steal the focus from gnome terminal.

with the fast loading applications you may not have time to select another
window.

does it happen for the panel volume slider and the full volume controls when
you right click on the panel volume and choose "open volume control"?
