[Bug 46656] Nautilus FTP vfs doesn't follow redirects
Public bug reported: I have tried to use Nautilus to browse an FTP directory for my site, where I log in to ftp://mysite.com. The server successfully redirects other clients to ftp://mysite.com/accountID, as the site is on a shared hosting service, and so my site actually resides in a subdirectory on the server. Nautilus fails to follow the redirect, and so is naturally denied access to the top-level directory outside my site's directory. To illustrate the redirect , after logging in with 'ftp mysite.com' in a terminal, 'pwd' gives '257 "/accountID" is current directory.' ** Affects: gnome-vfs (Ubuntu) Importance: Medium Assignee: Ubuntu Desktop Bugs Status: Fix Committed -- Nautilus FTP vfs doesn't follow redirects https://launchpad.net/bugs/46656 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 44902] Totem internal volume control disabled when AC3 passthrough selected
Public bug reported: Since it's internal, Totem's volume control STILL WORKED with AC3 passthrough to spdif, and was very useful for reducing the volume below the lowest level of an external amp. This regression showed up with totem 1.4.1 in Dapper. [Bug 46641] Disk full notification appears/disappears before fully logged in, is misplaced
Public bug reported: To reproduce - fill a partition to ~96%, place the notification area on a bottom panel, log out, log in. Behaviour: Notification appears during login process after the panel appears, but is half off the bottom edge of the screen, and then disappears before the user is fully logged in and can reliably click on it. Expected behaviour - draw it in the right place, leave it there until the user takes action or has been fully logged in for a small amount of time. ** Affects: notification-daemon (Ubuntu) Severity: Normal Priority: (none set) Status: Unconfirmed -- Disk full notification appears/disappears before fully logged in, is misplaced https://launchpad.net/bugs/46641 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 46642] 2nd overlapping notification appears too low, distorts bubble
Public bug reported: To reproduce - position the notification area on a bottom panel, then for instance complete a system update with update-manager that generates a message (eg restart firefox) as well as a restart warning. Results: The underneath/first bubble is drawn correctly. The above bubble is drawn lower down on the screen than the underneath one, and consequently covers part of the panel. In addition, because the 'pointy bit' of the bubble seems to be drawn to the edge of the panel nearest the notification icon, it cuts into the bubble shape rather than growing out of it in order to reach the edge of the panel. Expected result: Draw the second/overlapping bubble above the first, or more generally, away from the whichever edge of the screen the panel is. This may be related to #46641 and be connected to the fact that my notification area is on a bottom edge panel (unconfirmed). ** Affects: notification-daemon (Ubuntu) Severity: Normal Priority: (none set) Status: Unconfirmed -- 2nd overlapping notification appears too low, distorts bubble https://launchpad.net/bugs/46642 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 46646] Drawing glitches: horizontal scroll bar, buttons
Public bug reported: Steps to reproduce (not reliable): Scroll bar: resize a window to create a horizontal scroll bar (text zooming this page in Firefox a few times with 'ctrl +' works sometimes, as does zooming an image in the GIMP). Buttons: seems random, but works for me in the print screen dialogue. Result: Scroll bar - the upper part (~30%) of the empty part of the scroll bar is white. Buttons: Multi-coloured madness! Every time the colour's a little different, but in each instance, the glitch seems to like using a single colour. This colour problem also shows up in the menu bar in firefox, but that unusual location may be a product of Firefox's theming peculiarities. For each of these problems, mousing over the element cleans away the glitch. Of course, a picture is worth a thousand words - see the attached screenshot. ** Affects: ubuntulooks (Ubuntu) Severity: Normal Priority: (none set) Status: Unconfirmed ** Attachment added: "Ubuntulooks drawing glitches" http://librarian.launchpad.net/2924700/Screenshot.png -- Drawing glitches: horizontal scroll bar, buttons https://launchpad.net/bugs/46646 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 46652] Maximised windows sometimes have curved corners (significant problem!)
Public bug reported: Reproduceable for me by opening synaptic, maximising, then closing and opening again. Now the maximised window has slightly curved corners exposing a pixel or two in each of the top corners of the underlying maximised window or desktop. This is a glitch that is in contrast to the usual maximised state in which the title bar and outermost buttons extend all the way into the corners, in which case the user can 'throw' the mouse into the corners and easily land on the metacity buttons (Fitt's law). Fitt's compliance is a fantastic thing, because the user doesn't have to carefully aim for tiny buttons to for instance close the window, but if one thing is worse than non-compliance, it is unreliable compliance. This bug has caused me to accidentally close the underlying window (sometimes Firefox with many tabs open!) because when the mouse is 'thrown' to the corner, clicking hits the properly drawn maximised window underneath. --->See attached screenshots. p.s., when the window is in a badly-drawn maximised state, unmaximising/remaximising (eg by double-clicking on the title bar) does all sorts of weird things with the metacity button position. ** Affects: ubuntu-artwork (Ubuntu) Severity: Normal Priority: (none set) Status: Unconfirmed ** Attachment added: "Correctly drawn maximised window" http://librarian.launchpad.net/2924836/correct.png ** Attachment added: "Incorrectly drawn maximised window" http://librarian.launchpad.net/2924875/incorrect.png -- Maximised windows sometimes have curved corners (significant problem!) https://launchpad.net/bugs/46652 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 47008] GDM should have its own virtual terminal
Public bug reported: Here's a wish and a half... Instead of the current mess that is having GDM on the same virtual terminal as subsequent logins, GDM should have its own virtual terminal (e.g. tty6) and then start users on tty7, tty8 and so on. When the user logs out, they go back to tty6, and the same for switching users. I realise that there would be a performance hit from having GDM always open in its own virtual terminal, so I would imagine something like starting it on boot and stopping it when a user logs in, and then restarting it on logout/switch user. GDM's face browser could include a facility to indicate which users are already logged in as well. I know what your thinking, this sounds a lot like the Windows login/switching system, but that's because it's one area where Windows gets it mostly right and the GDM/X combination is an ugly hack :) ** Affects: gdm (Ubuntu) Severity: Normal Priority: (none set) Status: Unconfirmed -- GDM should have its own virtual terminal https://launchpad.net/bugs/47008 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 47008] Re: GDM should have its own virtual terminal
I think you misunderstand. I mean that one tty should be RESERVED for GDM/future user switching screen, and no user ever gets logged in to that tty. In addition, the other ttys would never have GDM on them, as logout would take the user back to GDM's reserved tty. The modified GDM would then be responsible for tracking which users are logged in where. This is very different from what happens now, and if you've ever tried combinations of multiple logins and logouts, you should know that the present system can quite easily leave a non-expert user stranded on a blank tty with a flashing cursor. Apart from that, there should be a consistent behaviour (return to login screen) when a user logs out, regardless of whether someone else is logged in - think about it - if two other users are logged in, what is the basis for going to one of their locked screens rather than the other? Nothing at the moment except the particular sequence of logins and logouts. This is because the present user switching system is a hack based on making as few changes as possible to implement 'any old switching will do'. Think about it topographically - the current system is a daisy chain, with no central login/switching process, and what I am suggesting is a simple tree, where everything branches from and returns to the central login manager. -- GDM should have its own virtual terminal https://launchpad.net/bugs/47008 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 47001] Re: Giant Desktop emblem
This is NOT a theme bug. Please read the upstream bug report. The 48x48 emblem in the gnome theme is that size because it is working around the nautilus bug. The Human theme is correct, but it needs to be be modified to work around the same bug. This can be done by setting size=96 in index.theme for 48x48 emblems etc. Then nautilus thinks that the icon is 96x96, and scales it down to 0.5x0.5 its original size (to try and make it 48x48, proof that it is a bug in Nautilus' logic), resulting in a visually acceptable result. -- Giant Desktop emblem https://launchpad.net/bugs/47001 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 377322] Re: my sftp conncection breaks spontaneously after a while, I have to re-login to fix it.
Yes, Nautilus'/GVFS' handling of SFTP timeouts is atrocious. Not sure how this could happen with a brand-new 21st century rewrite of a network backend, but nevermind. As a workaround, try the following in a terminal: gvfs-mount -l (to list your GVFS mounts) Then gvfs-mount -u "sftp://your-server/"; to unmount the offending location and be able to re-connect/use Nautilus again. -- my sftp conncection breaks spontaneously after a while, I have to re-login to fix it. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/377322 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 438099] [NEW] totem-common provides file associations without requiring totem
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: totem Distribution: Ubuntu 9.10 Alpha 6 + updates to 2009-09-27 Package: totem 2.28.0-0ubuntu1 As I don't use Totem, I want to be able to uninstall it (since it is associated by default with every audio/video format) and use a different player. However, I don't want to lose the ability to view A/V information from Nautilus. If I remove everything but totem-common, I retain the Nautilus file info audio video tab, but a totem.desktop remains, leaving behind Totem's file associations (which no longer work). If I remove totem common, I get an error when viewing audio/video file properties, as /usr/share/totem/properties.ui is now missing. Suggestion: move /usr/share/applications/totem.desktop from totem-common to totem. Looking at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome- app-install/+bug/13754 seems to suggest that totem-common exists partly to deal with totem-xine/totem-gstreamer issues, but totem-xine is now no more. ** Affects: totem (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- totem-common provides file associations without requiring totem https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/438099 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to totem in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

However, it is too easy to accidentally tap the delete key on the keyboard, so I don't want to reassign the key to 'delete permanently', just disable it. [Bug 558327] Re: Window close button is clickable anywhere in the corner
This has screwed easily targetable corner buttons for everyone, not just Ubuntu theme users. If I have a maximised window and no title bar, I can no longer throw my mouse to the corner and click to quickly close a window; I now have to aim at a TINY target. This is even more frustrating when using a trackpad. Perhaps we should fix the all of the panel applets, especially the menu bar, trash, show desktop, and indicator session applets. They've all got infinite depth/height/width too... and don't forget that the scrollbars in *diance's GTK theme currently work all the way to the edge of the screen. Far too easy to use them at the moment too. If you really want to provide a comprehensive 'fix', it should meet these criteria: - if a window's maximised and there's nothing between metacity and the edge(s) of t and there is no THEME-SPECIFIC padding around the buttons, they should be clickable to the edge(s) of the screen that the button sits next to (including corners for the corner buttons). - if something's in the way at an edge (e.g. a top panel), don't have this infinite edge behaviour. OTOH, there is no reason that e.g. the edge-most button shoudn't be infinitely wide if there's nothing to the left and right, since this edge is useless otherwise. - the maintainer of *diance should then do one of two things. Either change the maximised/in the corner appearance of the maximised buttons to indicate that they are clickable in the corners/on the edges (e.g. half/quarter circles against the edges/corners), possibly only if they're actually at a screen edge. If the maintainer doesn't want this behaviour for *diance's Metacity buttons, add some explicit functional padding around them. If that's not possible with an unpatched Metacity, patch Metacity to add a flag to optionally switch infinite edge behaviour. Even better, make it a gconf OPTION.
