Using 9.10 up-to-date to today, I thought I had this issue, but after some testing I found that the gvfs backend has an issue with share names greater than 13 characters in length (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gvfs/+bug/456501) - shares with spaces are more likely to have long names.
