[Bug 1960621] Re: MATE Desktop session fails to start with NVIDIA 495 & 510 drivers

[Bug 1960621] Re: MATE Desktop session fails to start with NVIDIA 495 & 510 drivers
It turns out that I may have misunderstood - the same thing happens for me when telling MATE Tweak that I want to use Compiz rather than Marco as my window manager. The switch to Compiz certainly happens (I am reminded of why I stopped using it..) and it is sticky between reboots. [Bug 1278437] Re: can't move link type .desktop files around on desktop
A few discoveries in 15.10: 1. This bug doesn't affect non-URL type files. 2. (URL files only) Comment four doesn't work for me. Nautilus just crashes and all my files disappear until I log out and log back in. 3. (URL files only) If I repeat comment four with a file instead of a directory, it doesn't move anything but creates a new file-'thisismyurl.com (http)'. [Bug 312401] Re: Sound Juicer have no MP3 selection, but can be edit under profile ?
Hmm, I am going to suggest there is a bug - despite having the mp3 profile marked as 'active' it does not show up in the dropbox of formats to choose from - only flac, ogg and wav do. If I edit another profile to use the mp3 command line, it works... but vanishes on next run of the program. [Bug 659595] Re: cannot run evolution full screen and have a hard time resizing
This is a very annoying problem. Evolution cannot be resized horizontally, because the minimum width is larger than the screen width (1024px minus the size of the new Unity Sidebar). If Evolution is then changed to full screen, the window frame and title bar disappear, but the window is not resized, so you get confusing graphics (instead of the title bar you see the topmost pixels of the window behind, which is most likely a menu bar of another open window...) (BTW: The "Netbook-Window-Resizer" should try to resize vertically only if hor/vert resizing fails). Maybe a part of the problem is that the last column in Mail view (Date) cannot be resized on the right side, so it is not possible to reduce the size of the email view. Hence it is not possible to reduce the window width at all. It is possible to switch to fullscreen after the sidebar of evolution is disabled, but then you cannot change mail folders. -- cannot run evolution full screen and have a hard time resizing https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/659595 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evolution in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 347860] [NEW] gnome-keyring failing with id_rsa
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-keyring I have an ssh key in /home/user/.ssh/id_rsa. Also currently tests fine with Fedora. A replace to gnome-keyring_2.22.3-2_i386.deb fixes problem. Also works fine with ssh-add and ssh-agent. Problem: First time I try and log into a remote server using ssh using 9.04, I get asked for the password (passphrase). This is accepted (if I enter wrong one, it keeps focus and asks to re-enter). Then when it has accepted the correct passphrase, it proceeds to try and login, but doesn't seem to use it. This I am doing via gnome-terminal and a custom command (which is "ssh u...@host.net", I have several for different hosts, using one key). On trying to login, it fails and asks for a password, if it failed and used the ssh key so I could enter passphrase at this point I'd be fine (so I'm guessing maybe its not using keyring at all? This is actually better than a broken keyring for me). If I regress to gnome-keyring 2.22.3-2 this sort of works by asking for passphrase each time (so guessing maybe its not using keyring, but is using the correct key at least). Will try and restore and grab copy of ssh -vvv as custom command. ** Affects: gnome-keyring (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- gnome-keyring failing with id_rsa https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/347860 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-keyring in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 347860] Re: gnome-keyring failing with id_rsa
Have restored original keyring. This is ssh -vvv u...@host as custom command. I'm guessing using the old keyring may be a redherring as it may not actually be using it? But gnome-terminal does use the correct ssh key and logs in fine. (so could be a gnome-terminal issue or elsewhere?) Happy to help isolate as very important. I can work around it for the moment by using old version and logging in direct with passphrase. ** Attachment added: "keyring.txt" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/24304508/keyring.txt -- gnome-keyring failing with id_rsa https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/347860 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-keyring in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Lots of looking suggested that I gave up on this particular Mitsumi. Why does it work with Windows XP? I tried my Lite-On DVD combo, but got an intermittent audio cut-out problem. [Bug 118605] Re: [fglrx] freezes upon Logout or Switch user [patch]
My initial problem was a broken mtrr. I'm not sure if that's the fault of Asus (motherboard), ATI, Intel or Linux... but fixing that lets me get into X. Unfortunately I'm still having a problem (wait for it...) with freezing on logout or user switch. I added hardy-proposed (hardy-updates was already there) and installed the envy drivers, still a hard lock on logout. Keyboard is blinking at me as I type this on another machine. I guess I should have done more research before buying the card, IE actually checking out what state the radeonhd drivers were in. Or how bad fglrx had gotten. [Bug 35217] Re: Unable to login when disk space is exhausted
I agree that this should be assigned a higher priority, Why, yes, it did catch me last night :) It's made worse by the behaviour of ext3 when full: you can delete files using 'rm' or 'apt-get clear' *BUT* the free space doesn't increase?!? (Because the journalling system couldn't write anything before making the changes that would give it some space?) A combination of reboot, oh no, delete some files, reboot, oh no, try deleting via Windows and ext2fs, reboot, oh no, run fschk, delete some files, reboot, oh no, run fschk etc worked. In the end. But, basically, the behaviour when the file system fills up is Not Good. I leave it to others to decide what the best solution is - stop the file system getting in this state? Having a specific utility to get free space (e.g. by emptying caches) in such a way that ext3 actually creates some or just increasing the helpfullness of the onscreen messages. About the only good bit is that, browsing the bug database, it looks like KDE is even worse :/ -- Unable to login when disk space is exhausted https://launchpad.net/bugs/35217 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 35217] Re: Unable to login when disk space is exhausted
Ah yes, my other comment about the current position is that it's particularly annoying when you've (sensibly) put /home on a different partition: by picking a different session, you can get a simple graphical login working (albeit without menus) *BUT* there's no way to change to root in order to delete files anywhere other than your /home directory... and deleting files there will have no effect. You can see what you need to do, but you're stopped from doing it... argh. -- Unable to login when disk space is exhausted https://launchpad.net/bugs/35217 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 38754] [Dapper] ogg stream operations causes Rhythmbox to lock
Public bug reported: Affects: rhythmbox (Ubuntu) Severity: Normal Priority: (none set) Status: Unconfirmed Description: There seem to be a couple causes for this. 1) Sometimes switching between two of the default ubuntu ogg streams (http://ubuntu.hbr1.com:19800/trance.ogg or ambient.ogg) will cause rhythmbox to crash. This happens seemingly random, but only after playing a stream for a while. Using the pause/play button to turn the stream off somtimes causes this. 2) When the end of the stream is reached, instead of either stopping playback or reconnecting to the stream, rhythmbox crashes. Reproducing this bug is a pain because the conditions seem random for #1 and you've got to wait for the ogg stream to end for #2, which only happens every 30-90 minutes. [Bug 57205] MimeType values in .desktop files are not regexps
Public bug reported: DesktopEntry.py says: def getMimeType(self): return self.get('MimeType', list=True, type="regex") However, the MimeType field is not a regexp according to eg http://standards.freedesktop.org/desktop-entry-spec/0.9.5/ar01s07.html Callers will have to have been expecting to treat the result like a compiled re (eg, by calling .match). However, they are also entitled to look inside and see re.pattern and some callers (eg, gnome-app-install) know that there is this lack of quoting bug in pygtk So there is no good answer to this. Perhaps it would be best to invent a getMimeTypeStringList and deprecate the old method. There are some cryptic comments in DesktopEntry.py relating to deprecation of MimeType. To reproduce at least one of the symptoms: gnome-app-install --mime-type=text/vndXwapYwml and observe that an XML editor is offered when in fact no application should be found. Note that the fix should arrange that gnome-app-install and then typing text/vnd.wap.wml into the search box should still find the XML editor. ** Affects: pygtk (Ubuntu) Importance: Untriaged Status: Unconfirmed -- MimeType values in .desktop files are not regexps https://launchpad.net/bugs/57205 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Thanks for this report. This is almost certainly a problem in firefox upstream, which is probably best addressed there. [Bug 39270] Re: Download progress bar aliased (using default Human theme)
Please see my comments in 8887 and 42265. What you are describing here amounts to a request to change the firefox theme. ** Changed in: ubuntu-artwork (Ubuntu) Status: Unconfirmed => Rejected ** Changed in: ubuntu-artwork (Ubuntu) Sourcepackagename: ubuntu-artwork => firefox -- Download progress bar aliased (using default Human theme) https://launchpad.net/bugs/39270 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 42559] Re: Uses nimbus for sans-serif font
With the latest changes for MOZ_DISABLE_PANGO=1 (workaround for pango performance Malone 32561), this affects firefox proper sometimes too. ** Changed in: firefox (Ubuntu) Status: Unconfirmed => Confirmed -- Uses nimbus for sans-serif font https://launchpad.net/bugs/42559 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 42559] Re: Uses nimbus for sans-serif font
The fix for this is in 1.5.dfsg+1.5.0.2-0ubuntu2. It should fix it both with MOZ_DISABLE_PANGO=1 (which is what I've tested) and in epiphany et al. ** Changed in: firefox (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Fix Released -- Uses nimbus for sans-serif font https://launchpad.net/bugs/42559 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 31596] Re: [Dapper] Text is not rendered properly
I think we have probably improved this situation with recent changes to fontconfig to support the anymetrics=1 property. Can you confirm whether there are still problems, and if so indicate which of the test cases described here are still broken ? (Or failing that, attach a new test case file.) ** Changed in: fontconfig (Ubuntu) Assignee: Ubuntu Desktop Bugs => Ian Jackson Status: Confirmed => Needs Info -- [Dapper] Text is not rendered properly https://launchpad.net/bugs/31596 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 20622] Re: Rhythmbox Segfault on reading rhythmdb.xml file
It has certainly been fixed somewhere along the line, I've even tried to recreate it in a clean 5.10 running in a virtual machine, but no luck. Either it was something to do with my music library at the time, or an update in some other library fixed it. Rhythmbox has been rock solid for me for a long time now, and I have it open all the time. -- Rhythmbox Segfault on reading rhythmdb.xml file https://launchpad.net/bugs/20622 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 38144] Re: [Bug 38144] Re: "Highlight pointer when you press control" option breaks firefox cut/copy by keyboard.
I don't know exactly what's going on here but I think the bug here is that this accessibility feature is misdesigned and the X events it result in cause firefox to think it has lost mouse or keyboard focus. Right, thanks. I take it that you mean you used `ln' (and perhaps `rm') to fix it. That's interesting.
