[Bug 779359] [NEW] Color Themes Inconsistent Using GTK2-Engines

2011-05-08 Thread Jmadero
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gtk2-engines

The color schemes for GTK2 under Unity (and possibly before Unity, under
Gnome) are inconsistent. I have included two screenshots to show the
problem. Both are of K9Copy using the same exact color scheme/theme. The
first is opening K9Copy after applying the color scheme, the second is
opening K9Copy and then applying the theme in "appearances". As can
obviously be seen the results are dramatically different, in the first
case letters are not visible at all and the theme is unusable, the
second case the image is clear and text is the color it is supposed to
be.

Soren's patch worked for me, using Notes 8.5.3 CD4 on Ubuntu 11.04 on a

Have blogged it here: -

giving full credit to Soren, in case others don't reach this site.

Thanks, Soren, great job :-)

[Bug 779384] [NEW] stuck in "Open with" dialog

2011-05-08 Thread dj_jeff
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

There's only the possibility to select a program entry from the list. No
options or buttons are usable. The dialog can neither be accepted nor
cancelled. Nautilus can't be handled correctly anymore

reproduce:
- select a file not corresponded to an application (e.g. *.conf)
- double click
- select the corresponding program
- try to click on "OK", "Cancel" or an option, it won't be possible
- minimize the window and try to get a context menu of one file, won't also be

Thanks guys.

Could you pleas try to push your respective it-organizations to have
them push ibm to get this fixed in Lotus Notes.

I suspect the reason why Lotus Notes is so slow might be relared to
wrong use of gtk.

[Bug 753707] Re: gdm autologin does not work in Natty

2011-05-08 Thread TomasHnyk
I think I nailed it down. I have a ecryptfs directory from previous
install (I installed natty from a USB stick but preserved my home
directory). If I move $HOME/.ecryptfs somewhere else (i.e. mv .ecryptfs
Desktop), autologin starts to work. Of course, it is then no longer
possible to unlock the Private directory.

Can anyone confirm this or am I experiencing different bug than others?

Following the suggestion in #9 I temporarily moved the .ecryptfs
directory. And auto login did indeed start to work. Moving the directory
back caused auto login to stop working again.

[Bug 723458] Re: libgtk2 2.24.0 break Lotus Notes user interface

2011-05-08 Thread Gytis Raciukaitis
Hi Soren,

do you have any technical proof on the wrong usage of GTK+ in Lotus
Notes ? I work for IBM and I could raise an internal defect regarding
this as our internal Ubuntu users are also being hit by this. Lotus of
course supports only LTS releases and having to push a breakage fix that
is due to some new upstream GTK+ features is rather hard to do, but if
we can build a case that this is would give a performance boost and
actually is an incorrect usage on their part could increase the priority
- Lotus guys are very much aware of performance of Lotus Notes.

Thanks.

I believe it disables the bug report, so that it is no longer considered
relevant.
The bug was reported during my testing of Natty alphas or betas. For me the bug
got solved along the way and is no longer a problem I encounter.
I you experience the bug, I think that it would be best to find a more active

[Bug 651931] Re: evince crashed with SIGSEGV in clear_job_selection()

2011-05-08 Thread Chow Loong Jin
Attached is a debdiff targeted for Oneiric. I understand that this bug
will probably eventually be fixed by the upload of Evince 3.0, but I'd
like to get this patch into natty-proposed as well.

** Patch added: "debdiff.patch"

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evince/+bug/651931/+attachment/2119548/+files/debdiff.patch

** Description changed:

- Binary package hint: evince
+ Evince crashes when clicking on the blank document area during the short
+ interval between Evince's window opening, and before the document has
+ been loaded.

- I could open the same document successfully the second time
+ Steps to reproduce:
+ 1. Find a PDF file (the larger the better, so that there's a greater time
window)
+ 2. Double click it to open the document in Evince.
+ 3. When Evince's window appears, click on the blank document area
immediately. This has to be done before the document loads in the window.
+ 4. Observe Evince segfault.

[Bug 749776] Re: Nautilus won't start up and the desktop icons are frozen (can't be clicked)

2011-05-08 Thread daniel
A careful obsevation of TOP processes, and the error information made me
think that the root of the bug may be not Nautilus itself, but the
ubuntuone-syncdaemon. I uninstalled all of the Ubuntu One stuff and the
windows I tried to open an hour ago popped open, and the machine became
noticeably faster.

[Bug 773908] Re: Evolution - after upgrading Ubuntu 11.04 could not send receive emails on pop3 / imap

2011-05-08 Thread Noel Shelton
Let me add additional observations: this seems to be at least partially
a gnome issue. Ignoring hosts in proxy settings doesn't seem to work at
all and any changes I make to proxy settings in some apps (chromium,
synaptic) are applied globally when I tell it not to. Upon further
inspection, choosing to change proxy settings in these apps opens the
system proxy dialog. This being the case, it is necessary to set system
proxy to Direct Internet Connection, start Evolution, then reset the
proxy settings whenever I restart Evolution. In my case it's not a big
deal since I run Evolution 24/7 and only restart it after a reboot. If
it doesn't get fixed and irritates me too much, I may write a startup
script for Evolution or do it from rc.local

[Bug 779481] [NEW] Disable auto-discovery of VNC servers nearby

2011-05-08 Thread Kent Seaton
Public bug reported:

"I am on a LAN with large numbers of VNC servers. Vinagre takes 5
minutes to try to discover every server on every launch. This is really
annoying. Is it possible to turn this feature off. I cannot find a

[Bug 779446] [NEW] The "mute volume" multimedia key always has it's light on

2011-05-08 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

After logging in to my account on Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal the mute button
will always have it's light on, as if to say that the volume is in the "mute"
mode. When starting to play a sound or a song, the light will go off and play
the song/ sound but will immediately come back on after the sound/ music has
stopped. This bug was not in Ubuntu 10.10. I'm on an HP nc6400 laptop.
Pressing mute on and off will put the light out for less than a second before
it comes back on again. The volume is unaffected by the light, so it only
appears to be the light at fault. Sometimes after playing music/ a sound for a
while the light seems to get the idea and stay off, but not always.

Also, I'm a bit of a linux noob.

I can't mark it "won't fix", but that's basically what this bug is.

I don't think anyone is still doing any hard hacking on the old Gnome 2
stuff like this, so for anyone stuck on Gnome 2, I guess they will have

[Bug 779509] [NEW] keyboard layout settings not remembered

2011-05-08 Thread Gilles Tournier
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-settings-daemon

Binary package hint: gnome-settings-daemon

Ubuntu 11.04 (natty)
Kernel 2.6.38-8-generic (#42-Ubuntu SMP Mon Apr 11 03:31:50 UTC 2011)
Gnome 2.32.1 (Ubuntu 2011-04-14)
gnome-settings-daemon 2.32.1-0ubuntu13.1

Description: the keyboard layout settings, when changed to new defaults in a
session, is not remembered across reboots. Upon reboot, it will revert back to
the original defaults as if it had not registered/saved the changes in settings.
Originally, my purpose was to suppress the indicator by removing the additional
keyboard layout that was added at installation. I really use only one layout:
fr_CH and therefore I don't need this keyboard switch indicator in the tray.
Behavior is normal when I suppress the unused keyboard by removing it using the
indicator or control center: upon removing the unused keyboard, the indicator
disappears from the tray and the layout is fr_CH fine. But when I reboot, these
settings are not remembered, and I have to do this all over again in order for
this indicator not to show up in the tray.
Notes:
- this bug appeared in Maverick
- other methods described for disabling the indicator (such as creating a
disable key in gconf /desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard/general/ ) do not work
or cure the problem.

G.T.

[Bug 745556] Re: nautilus ssh connection after suspend to ram - browsing location lost

2011-05-08 Thread donquixote
Wow.. something has changed in Nautilus!
Maybe I am on a new version? It says "2.30.1".

Now the remote ssh tabs no longer close after suspend-to-ram.
Instead,
- each of the remote tabs goes to local "Home" automatically after a
suspend-to-ram.
- all ssh connections are cut off.
- the back button gets me back to the original remote location, for each tab
separately.

This is a LOT better than the old behavior.
Maybe there could be better solutions, but it would require some design
thinking. I can live with this solution quite well.

[Bug 720389] Re: The touchpad works very bad

Hallo Airam,

Thanks for your help in "my" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source
/xserver-xorg-input-synaptics/+bug/762768.

I sympathize with your feeling "I'm feeling a bit alone here ...".

May be we are spread over to many bugs?

I still hope that the 8 month old SuSE fixes will find a way into the
normal distribution.

For the moment I will use the normal package with 2 changes in my
parameters:

AreaBottomEdge=4331 (instead =0)
Important: to make text-selection possible

TopEdge = 0 (instead=1627)
just improves usability: cursor moves, even if the finger is at the top of
cklickpad.

It looks like, if there is no major strategy for that Clickpad - stuff,
which gets quit complex with all these features and options.

greetings
reinhard

[Bug 779570] [NEW] Nautilus paths are copied to clipboard with encoding

2011-05-08 Thread Damián Nohales
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Hello!

I wanted to report a Nautilus issue at copying a path from the location bar.
I'm using Nautilus 2.32.2.1-0ubuntu13 on Ubuntu 11.04.

The issue is that when I copy a path from the Nautilus location bar
using Ctrl+C, the path is saved in an encoded form on the clipboard, for
example:

Location bar reads: "/home/me/Lot of documents"
When I copy the path, the clipboard content result on this:
"/home/me/Lot%20of%20%documents"

This issue applies only when the path is copied using Ctrl+C shortcut,
there is no problem when I copy the path using Right click -> Copy or
when I cut the path.

This issue also complicates the "Nautilus-Actions Configuration Tools"
passing the encoded path to an action when it uses a %f token to get the
first selected path.

That's all guys!
Regards!

[Bug 779573] Re: cannot make keyboard layout global/system-wide

2011-05-08 Thread peterbo
Also, in 11.04 (Gnome, classic no effects) assigning caps lock only to
switch between DK and US keyboard layout works only if you wait about
500-1000 ms after pressing the caps lock key.

In 10.10 this switch of layout was instant. Seems to be instant if
shortcut key is e.g. alt + caps lock.

2011-05-08 Thread Gil Ramirez
I'm having the exact same problem. Ran the same debug and got
essentially the same output. Perhaps it has something to do with the
number of contacts?

As an aside, I own two android devices and both sync fine.

[Bug 779585] [NEW] Evolution x Notify Applet: Evolution dont goes to "systray"

2011-05-08 Thread Leonardo Silva Amaral
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Since Evolution exists, isn't possible minimize evolution to Systray.
Ubuntu implements the notify applet to unify messenging facilities, but
different from Empathy or Gwibber, Evolution is aways on taskbar when
its open. A "Workarround" is use the systray plugin for Evolution and
send it ti systray, but this solution isnt possible. Since this feature
exists on Empathy (When close Empathy, it goes "invisible" but still
open, being possible access it from notify applet) and on Gwibber, i
decided file a BUG, because Evolution is the only application still in
taskbar and when its "closed" it really closes instead to just dissapear
and still available from notify applet.

[Bug 765847] Re: Send to Email is missing on Natty

2011-05-08 Thread Corneil du Plessis
The workaround did work for me. I am really disappointed in the quality
of Natty.

[Bug 742516] Re: gimp-2.6 crashed with SIGSEGV in g_closure_invoke()

2011-05-08 Thread Andrew Manson (real_ate)
I can confirm that creating the folder ~/.gimp-2.6 fixes the problem
that I had as described in the duplicate:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gimp/+bug/775586

If I create ~/.gimp-2.6 gimp starts fine. If I delete ~/.gimp-2.6 gimp
crashes with a segfault again and re-creating ~/.gimp-2.6 fixes the
problem (again).

[Bug 779639] [NEW] gnome screensaver activation is hindered by unobscure routine

2011-05-08 Thread Robert Lange
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver

The problem occurs in Natty, using the Unity desktop. I have not tried
the old-style desktop to see if it also affects that.

https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=649755

I have reported upstream a bug in Gnome Screensaver that is preventing
my screensaver from activating during session timeout. The symptom is
that the session times out, the screen fades to black, and then
immediately returns to the desktop. The symptoms are similar to Bug
#241206 and Bug #363635, but the cause is different than those bugs.

Summary of upstream bug report:

The problem is caused in gs-manager.c by the function
window_obscured_cb. This function is called when the screensaver window
is obscured (i.e., when fast user switching swaps to another VT) or
unobscured (i.e., switching back to the VT). In addition to attempting
to disable or re-enable the screensaver animation, when the screensaver
is unobscured the callback automatically makes a request to unlock the
screen. This saves the user from having to press a key or wave their
mouse around to bring up the unlock dialog.

My problem is that, for reasons I do not understand, my screensaver thinks,
every time it activates due to session timeout, that its window is obscured
briefly. window_obscured_cb is called twice in rapid succession, once for
obscure, then again for unobscure. Because I do not use the screensaver lock
feature, this means that, on the unobscure call, the screensaver is
deactivated. Thus, my screensaver will never activate due to a session timeout.

I have verified that the obscured window event is the reason for the
screensaver deactivation using the debugging output.

I have attached a patch in the upstram bug report that fixes the problem
by removing the line that calls the screensaver unlock automatically as
a result of an unobscure event.

[Bug 753707] Re: gdm autologin does not work in Natty if ecryptfs is used

2011-05-08 Thread TomasHnyk
I upgraded the description of the bug accordingly. I think bug 284443
may be the cause if I understand that bug correctly, waiting for
reaction from the developer.

[Bug 284443] Re: gdmsetup: Don't offer autologin for ecryptfs users

2011-05-08 Thread TomasHnyk
Robert: does this mean that bug 753707 was introduced? It seems that
autologin now does not work when .ecryptfs is present in the $HOME
directory of the user to be autologged in.

If I can add my two cents, that seems to be a bit unfortunate, because
now gdm does not ask me for password anyway (it just wants me to select
myself as the user to be logged in) so the encrypted directory is not
mounted anyway and autlogin does not work either.

There is a README in my Private directory that reads as follows:

THIS DIRECTORY HAS BEEN UNMOUNTED TO PROTECT YOUR DATA.

>From the graphical desktop, click on:
 "Access Your Private Data"

or

>From the command line, run:
 ecryptfs-mount-private

Why don't we change it so something like this (I am not a native speaker
so the English might be dubious, I am not sure if autlogin can be made
into a verb) :

THIS DIRECTORY HAS BEEN UNMOUNTED TO PROTECT YOUR DATA.

This may be because you were autologged in and thus did not enter your
password.

>From the graphical desktop, click on:
 "Access Your Private Data"

or

>From the command line, run:
 ecryptfs-mount-private
