Do they work with Option "BIOSHotkeys"?

Possibly, but it could also be another application that your fluxbox
config starts automatically.

Assuming that starting fluxbox by hand from the working 'startx
/usr/bin/xterm' exits the session as a plain 'startx' does, you might be
able to find out which component or application is responsible for this.
Looking at everybody's stdout and stderr should help. Running strace -f
-ff fluxbox might help too.

When I rotate the screen using xrandr, and draw a line with
a mouse in a graphical application (e.g. gimp), the line
does not appear immediately. When I click the mouse and start
dragging, it draws a sequence of dots instead of a continous
line. When I release the button, the line immediately appears.

The problem is more apparent when one runs the application in full
screen mode. I see it in gimp, Jarnal, Xournal, Gournal (programs
for writing with pen), and other applications using both mouse and
pen (my system is tablet PC).

When the display is in normal (non-rotated) state, everything
works fine.

Package: xserver-xorg-video-intel
Version: 2:2.0.0-1
Severity: important

Hello everyone!

I have the following problem when upgrading from
xserver-xorg-video-i810 2:1.7.2-4
to the new
xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.0.0-1
on my IBM Thinkpad X40:

Switching output via the hotkey (Fn+F7) does not work at all anymore. The
external display is always active when connected.
Output switching works with i810switch or xrandr, though. It even works better
than with the old driver, the image on the external VGA is much clearer.
But when I try to switch outputs like this:

ext. VGA on -> ext. VGA off -> ext VGA on -> LVDS off -> LVDS on

the whole system freezes. Both displays are blank, no console switching or
even ssh login are possible. Alt+Sysrq does not work either. The only option
is to turn the system off and back on. I did not find any error messages in
syslog or Xorg.0.log.

In addition to the kernel version mentioned below, I am using tp_smapi driver
0.31 and the Conexant hsf modem drivers. I tried unloading all these, but to
no effect on the problem described.
Adapting my xorg.conf to the new driver did not help either. Both configs (for
i810 and intel) are attached.
Please tell me if more information is needed.

Best regards,

soenke

Using the laptops Fn+F10 button combination I used to be able to cycle through
image on:
* Only on laptop
* Only on beamer/projector
* Both laptop and beamer/projector

In all three cases the image was clear and sharp, and xvideo showed up
just nice (watching dvd on both laptop and beamer/projector was no problem).
This was with xorg6.9 which used 1.4.1 of the i810 driver.

With any version of i810 after 1.4.1, the output on the beamer when used
simultaneously with the laptop screen is blurry/fuzzy/unsharp.

My situation: I have a Mac Mini with a Xoro-LCD (LCD-TV HTL 3742 w)
supporting a native resolution of 1920x1080. I would like to use this
resolution with the debian installed on the Mac Mini. I'm able to use this
resolution with MacOS at a frequency of 12 Hz or 60Hz interlaced. I'm also
able to use this resolution with 60Hz interlaced on Windows. But with the
mode-setting-driver I'm not able to get a working setup with more than
1280x1024.

I know the exact timing parameters working with MacOS but they dont work
with the mode-setting-driver.

(With the standard i810 driver and 915resolution I can get the resolution
1920x1080 but it is operating at 60Hz and also doesn't work).

This worked before console-setup was installed. This is the screen of

I tried chaging a few settings such as the font and font size, but

If I launch xinit I got a greenish screen with 800x600 resolution (I think).
The terminal appears but it's slow.
I've installed xserver-xorg from experimental but nothing changes.
I tried several resolutions. This behaviour started 2/3 days ago.
I tried to comment the HorizSync and VertRefresh optionx.

After upgrading to xorg from unstable, my laptop with an
"Intel Corporation 82852/855GM Integrated Graphics Device"

blank screen and keyboard is dead (no ALT-BACKSPACE, ALT+Fx).

Downgrading to xserver-xorg-video-i810 version 1.5.1.0-2 from testing
solves the problem.

Hello!

I just tried this package as I had a problem with the regular i810
driver. I wanted to create a new config by running
dpgk-reconfigure -plow xserver-xorg
and selected monitor autodetection. The detected modes were
640x480
800x600
1024x768
but my display is 1280x800. The normal driver detects the correct
resolution.

 Hi,

Several months ago, you reported a bug to the Debian BTS regarding Xorg
and the i810 driver giving a black screen on your i945 board. Did you
reproduce this problem recently? With Xorg/Etch? With latest
xserver-xorg-core and drivers? If not, I will close this bug in the next
 weeks.

Package: compiz
Version: 0.2.2

When enabling compiz via the compiz --replace command, as soon as the
screensaver starts in its default configuration, you cannot see the
actual image of the screensaver but a blank screen.

Most important, as soon as you try to move the mouse, so that the
unlock dialog appears, you cannot see that it does anything (doesn't
refresh). Unlocking the session is rather hard, you have to start
typing you password with no feedback, and because the window looses
focus as you click, it never seems to work.

What i do is spin the cube (strange that it works when the session is
locked?) and on the spinned faces i can see the refreshed window
dialog but i can't type.

I had to cold-reset my machine the first time and now I disabled the
lock screen option in the screensaver.

I'm using Debian etch with pretty much default stuff and updated.
Screensaver is gnome-screensaver 2.14.3-3. Compiz is 0.2.2-1. My video
card is Intel 950G and i use the i810 driver. Other things work fine
with compiz.

Closing this bug as invalid as suggested earlier since
/apps/compiz/general/screen0/options/unredirect_fullscreen_windows is
unchecked by default (at least in compiz 0.5).

I played with plugins yesterday, I got surprised to see many plugins are
disabled by default, I don't think it was the case with compiz 0.2,
that's sad. Anyway you should just need the rotate plugin to get this to
work. The keys are configured in
/apps/compiz/plugins/rotate/allscreens/options/rotate_left_key and right.

Bug#432011: xserver-xorg: X server doesn't honour some xmodmap settings

I confirm that this solves the problem. In fact, I need both

   Driver "keyboard"

and

   Option "XkbDisable""true"

So, Shift-F1 now produces 'É' as expected, and switching virtual
console with Ctrl-Alt-F1 for instance now also works. But this
workaround prevents my from upgrading xserver-xorg-input-keyboard:

xserver-xorg-input-keyboard (1:1.2.1-1) UNRELEASED; urgency=low

The old "keyboard" driver has been removed and is now superseded by the
"kbd" driver. The corresponding "InputDevice" section in the xorg.conf
configuration file should be updated by replacing "keyboard" with "kbd"
  on the "Driver" line.

Bug#407480: xserver-xorg-video-i810: Freeze with Intel 950 card

2007-07-23 Thread Heretik

Does xserver-xorg-videointel 2:2.1.0-2 (currently in testing) help? Did
you actually forward this bug upstream as you said you would? If 2.1.0
still has problems and you want me to forward the bug, please let me know.

No, I didn't forward it, but I think it's resolved and has nothing to do
with the driver finally. I've been told to try the "noapic" kernel
option in grub and I didn't experience any freeze yet with it. I planned
to do more extensive tests to be sure of that, but I think it's fine
anyway. So you can close this bug, and I would reopen it in case I get
some freezes again. I have know idea why the "noapic" option resolved it.

Thank you all for the time you spent helping me with it.

Bug#319822: xterm dies upon opening some programs

2007-07-23 Thread Dirk Van Hertem
Package: xterm
Version: 226-1
Followup-For: Bug #319822

Hello,

I think I can confirm this bug. (I am not sure it is the same, but I think so).

Sometimes, xterm dies when I open a program, for instance when I start "man
useradd", "bitchx" or other programs. aterm does not seem to be effected.

When starting xterm from an other terminal and typing something simple like man
useradd, the xterm dies and I get the following error message in my first
terminal:

$ xterm
xterm: warning, error event received:
X Error of failed request: BadValue (integer parameter out of range for
operation)
Major opcode of failed request: 77 (X_ImageText16)
  Value in failed request: 0x0
Serial number of failed request: 260
Current serial number in output stream: 305

I do not think to have done anything special since the last updates.

Best regards,

Dirk

"Somtimes". The problem is in reproducing it. If you retry the same
command sequence, can you get it to break again?

Bug#434388: Chroot mode

2007-07-23 Thread Enrico Tassi
Package: xresprobe
Version: 0.4.23debian1
Severity: wishlist

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---
I'd like xresprobe not to be called when xserver-xorg is installed and
configured on a chroot. This happens for example when you build a live
CD with the live-helper utiliby, that essentially debootstraps a chroot
in which all the live CD related software is installed. As you may
imagine, X is configured during boot time and the xresprobe run at
install time is annoying, since the host screen flickers and in my
particular case (i945 video card) there is an high probability that X
crashes because of this probing.

I'd like the utility to support a 'chroot mode', maybe looking at an
evironment variable or a special file somewhere, and not run if the
chroot mode is detected.

Cheers

Well, the sometimes should be rather "with some programs". E.g. when
starting bitchx, man, mutt... it *always* kills the terminal. When using
other applications: emacs, gv, ls, xterm itselves,... there is no problem.

My apologies for the unclear formulation.

This one might be related (fixed in #228):

 * fix missing assignment for UTF-8 parsing in widget initialization
   (Debian #403360).

The effect of that was to make the first character not necessarily decoded
properly - particularly when starting xterm as itself rather than via the
uxterm script.

Hi,

I _think_ the issue should be corrected by now - I have not replied as
I have not been able to work on the affected system, as my University
is currently on vacation. I've tested newer versions on systems with a
similar chipset (although not comfortable to work with on rotated
screens - i.e. a laptop :) ), and video performance seems to be back
to usability.

Anyway, keep the bug closed. A week from now I will go back to my
office, and if needed, I'll re-ping.

Thank you very much,

Bug#420840: Regression: Device-specific resolution no longer supported on i915GM

2007-07-23 Thread Sergey Yanovich

Hi,

Brice Goglin wrote:

The driver does not seem to detect this 1366x768 resolution at all, I
guess your screen does not report it correctly.

You might want to try forcing a mode with the following:
* run something like 'gtf 1366 768 75' to get a ModeLine for 1366x768 at
75hz (or whatever refresh rate you want)
* add this ModeLine to your xorg.conf in the Monitor section
* add a PreferredMode line to your Monitor section
Option "PreferredMode" "1024x768_78.00"

Thanks for your time.

video-intel seems to reject this mode (exceeds panel dimensions).

Using
Option "DDC" "false"
does not work.

xrandr tells that max screen size is 1024x1024, which is false. Is there
a way to tell the correct panel dimensions manually (versus DDC auto
detection)?

FYI, we expect to just drop xresprobe and let the server autoconfigure
itself. But we need all drivers to support this first (i.e. randr-1.2),
and it might take time.

Bug#430819: xserver-xorg: update breaks X with spurious AIGLX error

2007-07-23 Thread J.J.Green

Hi Brice

Some more on this: With the new X reinstalled I deleted lines
up my .xsession file until it worked - but it didn't. I find
that fluxbox itself seems to be the problem

  startx /usr/bin/fluxbox

fails as usual

  startx /usr/bin/blackbox

works just fine. I tried some stracing but there was nothing
obviously wrong to mey eyes.

Unfortunately I realy like fluxbox :-(

Before I reassign to fluxbox, please try
startx /usr/bin/xterm
then run fluxbox from the xterm in there and tell us what happens. If
the problem is only fluxbox related, you should get your X and xterm
back after fluxbox exited on startup.

libice override disparity

2007-07-23 Thread Debian Installer
There are disparities between your recently accepted upload and the
override file for the following file(s):

libice-dev_1.0.3-3_i386.deb: package says section is x11, override says
libdevel.
libice6-dbg_1.0.3-3_i386.deb: package says section is x11, override says
libdevel.
libice6_1.0.3-3_i386.deb: package says section is x11, override says libs.

Either the package or the override file is incorrect. If you think
the override is correct and the package wrong please fix the package
so that this disparity is fixed in the next upload. If you feel the
override is incorrect then please reply to this mail and explain why.

[NB: this is an automatically generated mail; if you replied to one
like it before and have not received a response yet, please ignore

Bug#434439: xfonts-encodings copyright statement is bogus

2007-07-23 Thread Juliusz Chroboczek
Package: xfonts-encodings
Version: 1:1.0.2-1

Hi David, hi Julien,

In /usr/share/doc/xfonts-encodings/copyright, I read,

> Copyright 2002-2004 Red Hat Inc., Durham, North Carolina.
> All Rights Reserved.

Considering that I personally generated most of the files contained in
this package, and that I've never been to North Carolina, of all places,
this would appear to be incorrect. Could you please replace this file
with the one from

  git.freedesktop.org/git/xorg/font/encodings/COPYING

I've just modified it, so please make sure you git pull first.

Thanks,

Juliusz

Package: xlibs-data
Version: 4.3.0.dfsg.1-8
Severity: minor

On a japanese keyboard, there is one key of the Yen sign, and one for
the backslash. While in EUC-JP and SHIFT-JIS encoding, Yen and backslash
are mapped to the same character, it is not the case in UTF-8.
Thus, i'd like the Yen key to return a Yen character, not a backslash.

Keycode for the yen key: keycode 133 (keysym 0x5c, backslash)
Keycode for the backslash key: keycode 123 (keysym 0x5c, backslash)

Mike

Note that on the same keyboard, The windows key gives keycode 115
(keysym 0x0, NoSymbol), which i think is not expected. Shall I file a
new bug for that ?

Hi Branden,

What's the status of this bug with ati driver 6.6.3 (or 6.6.192 in

Hi Brice!

ii xserver-xorg-core 2:1.3.0.0.dfsg-11
ii xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:6.6.3-2

Still exactly the same, as far as I can tell. I just restarted X within
the past day or two.

The pinkness still comes back in exactly the same way on any X server
reset, and I can still get rid of it exactly the same way -- run xvidtune,
and then adjust the screen right or left. I haven't tried up/down or
resizing, but I suspect that any vidmode tweak will just fix the problem.

My hardware is still exactly the same as when I filed this report.

Thanks very much for your scrupulous attention to old X bugs.
