Bug#718198: gnats: [INTL:fr] French debconf templates translation update

2013-07-28 Thread Christian Perrier
Package: gnats
Version: N/A
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch l10n

Please find attached the french debconf templates update, proofread by the
debian-l10n-french mailing list contributors.

If you do not already use it, you might consider using the
"podebconf-report-po" utility, which helps warning translators about
changes when you modify some debconf templates in your packages.

The usual policy when using it is sending a warning to translators
when you plan to upload a version of your package with debconf
templates changes (even typo corrections). Then leave about one week
for them to update their files (several translation teams have a QA
process which requires time).

podebconf-report-po will take care of sending the translators the
needed material as well as getting the translators adresses from the
PO files. All you have to do is just using the utility..:-)

Example use (from your package build tree):

$ podebconf-report-po

This will go through debian/po/*.po files, find those needing an
update, extract the translators data from these files and prepare a
mail to send to these translators (you can also use the
"--languageteam" switch to also mail the mail addresses listed in
"Language-Team" field).

You can also use this utility to request for new translations:

$ podebconf-report-po --call

This will send a mail to debian-i...@lists.debian.org with all the
needed information and material for new translators to add new
languages to your supported languages.

If you apply this policy, please forget about these remarks, of
courseThis message is generic..:-)

2014-02-08 Thread Christian Perrier
Package: webdruid

Hello,

The ttf-freefont binary package has been renamed to fonts-freefont-ttf
as per the Font Packaging Team internal naming policy.

The package provides a transitional package but we would like to drop
it and therefore we need packages that depend on ttf-freefont to
switch their dependency to fonts-freefont-ttf.

Thanks in advance.

Hmmm, apparently, the "set -e" in (the badly written) config script
was a bad idea.

Will revert that ASAP.

To fixe this, I recommend removing this "set -e" line in

Intent to upload mpdscribble to fix pending po-debconf l10n bugs

2012-02-12 Thread Christian PERRIER
Dear QA team,

The mpdscribble Debian package, which is orphaned, has
pending bug report(s) which include translation updates or fixes
for po-debconf, namely bug number 624731 (and maybe other similar bugs).

The i18n team is now hunting the very last bits of missing localization
and that package went on our radar.

I have the intention, as part of a more general action of the Debian
i18n Task Force to build and possibly upload a QA upload
for mpdscribble in order to fix this as well as all pending translations
for the debconf templates.

I will though investigate the package to check whether it is still OK
to keep it in the archive. If it appears to be too outdated, obsolete
or any other reason, I might call for the package removal.

The schedule for this work is roughly the following:

Sunday, February 12, 2012 : send this notice
 Sunday, February 12, 2012 : post a update announcement to debian-i18n
Sunday, February 19, 2012 : (midnight) deadline for receiving
translation updates
Monday, February 20, 2012 : build the package and upload it

I will subscribe to the Package Tracking System for mpdscribble and
follow its life for 60 days after my upload in order to fix any issue
potentially introduced by my upload.

Let me know, as soon as possible, if you have any kind of objection to this
process.

Bug#515168: mserv: [debconf_rewrite] Debconf templates and debian/control review

2009-02-14 Thread Christian Perrier
Package: mserv
Version: N/A
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

Dear Debian maintainer,

On Tuesday, January 27, 2009, I notified you of the beginning of a review
process
concerning debconf templates for mserv.

The debian-l10n-english contributors have now reviewed these templates,
and the proposed changes are attached to this bug report.

Please review the suggested changes are suggested, and if you have any
objections, let me know in the next 3 days.

Please try to avoid uploading mserv with these changes right now.

The second phase of this process will begin on Tuesday, February 17, 2009, when
I will
coordinate updates to translations of debconf templates.

The existing translators will be notified of the changes: they will
receive an updated PO file for their language.

Simultaneously, a general call for new translations will be sent to
the debian-i18n mailing list.

Both these calls for translations will request updates to be sent as
individual bug reports. That will probably trigger a lot of bug
reports against your package, but these should be easier to deal with.

The call for translation updates and new translations will run until
about Tuesday, March 10, 2009. Please avoid uploading a package with fixed or
changed
debconf templates and/or translation updates in the meantime. Of
course, other changes are safe.

Please note that this is an approximative delay, which depends on my
own availability to process this work and is influenced by the fact
that I simultaneously work on many packages.

Around Wednesday, March 11, 2009, I will contact you again and will send a
final patch
summarizing all the updates (changes to debconf templates,
updates to debconf translations and new debconf translations).

Again, thanks for your attention and cooperation.

Intent to upload tpconfig to fix pending po-debconf l10n bugs

2009-08-22 Thread Christian Perrier
Dear QA team,

The tpconfig Debian package, which is orphaned, has
pending bug report(s) which include translation updates or fixes
for po-debconf, namely bug number 508154 (and maybe other similar bugs).

The i18n team is now hunting the very last bits of missing localization
and that package went on our radar.

I have the intention, as part of a more general action of the Debian
i18n Task Force to build and possibly upload a QA upload
for tpconfig in order to fix this as well as all pending translations
for the debconf templates.

I will though investigate the package to check whether it is still OK
to keep it in the archive. If it appears to be too outdated, obsolete
or any other reason, I might call for the package removal.

The schedule for this work is roughly the following:

Saturday, August 22, 2009 : send this notice
 Saturday, August 22, 2009 : post a update announcement to debian-i18n
Saturday, August 29, 2009 : (midnight) deadline for receiving
translation updates
Sunday, August 30, 2009 : build the package and upload it

I will subscribe to the Package Tracking System for tpconfig and
follow its life for 60 days after my upload in order to fix any issue
potentially introduced by my upload.

Let me know, as soon as possible, if you have any kind of objection to this
process.

Bug#508154: Announce of the upcoming NMU for the tpconfig package

2009-08-23 Thread Christian Perrier
Dear maintainer of tpconfig and Debian translators,

Some days ago, I sent a notice to the maintainer of the tpconfig Debian
package, mentioning the status of at least one old po-debconf translation
update in the BTS.

I announced the intent to build and possibly upload a non-maintainer upload
for this package in order to fix this long-time pending localization
bug as well as all other pending translations.

The package maintainer agreed for the NMU or did not respond in two
weeks, so I will proceed with the NMU.

The full planned schedule is available at the end of this mail.

The package is currently translated to:
cs de es eu fi fr gl ja nl pt ru sv vi

Among these, the following translations are incomplete: es nl sv

If you did any of the, currently incomplete, translations you will get
ANOTHER mail with the translation to update.

Other translators also have the opportunity to create new translations
for this package. Once completed, please send them as a bug report
against the tpconfig package so I can incorporate them in the build.

The deadline for receiving updates and new translations is Saturday, August 29,
2009. If you
are not in time you can always send your translation to the BTS.

The POT file is attached to this mail.

If the maintainer objects to this process I will immediately abort my NMU
and send him/her all updates I receive.

Otherwise the following will happen (or already has):

Saturday, August 22, 2009 : send the first intent to NMU notice to
 the package maintainer.
Sunday, August 23, 2009 : send this notice
Saturday, August 29, 2009 : (midnight) deadline for receiving
translation updates
Sunday, August 30, 2009 : build the package and upload it to
DELAYED/2-day
send the NMU patch to the BTS
Tuesday, September 01, 2009 : NMU uploaded to incoming

Thanks for your efforts and time.

2009-09-18 Thread Christian Perrier
(this package was just orphanedthe orphaning upload included fixed
templates for a very old bug reported against them. That fuzzies many
translation strings...so it's a good moment to review the debconf templates.)

Dear Debian maintainer,

The Debian internationalisation team and the Debian English
localisation team will soon begin the review of the debconf
templates used in isdnutils.

This review takes place for all packages that use debconf to interact with
users and its aims are:
- to improve the use of English in all debconf templates;
- to make the wording of debconf templates more consistent;
- to encourage more translations of templates.

Even if your first language is English, this process is likely to help
track down typos or errors, and improve consistency between the
debconf templates of your package and that of other packages in the
distribution.

The process involves both debian-l10n-english contributors and
Debian translators.

The details of the process are given in
http://wiki.debian.org/I18n/SmithDebconfReviewProcess.

I will act as the coordinator of this activity for isdnutils.

The first step of the process is to review the debconf source
template file(s) of isdnutils. This review will start on Monday, September 21,
2009, or
as soon as you acknowledge this mail with an agreement for us to
carry out this process.

All parts of the process will be carried out in close collaboration
with you, and, unless you explicitely ask for it, no upload nor NMU
will happen for isdnutils.

If you approve this process, please let us know by replying to this
mail. If some work in progress on your side would conflict with such a
rewrite (such as adding or removing debconf templates), please say so,
and we will defer the review to later in the development cycle.

Thank you for your attention.

Intent to NMU xmcd to fix pending po-debconf l10n bugs

2009-09-19 Thread Christian Perrier
Dear Debian maintainer,

The xmcd Debian package, which you are the maintainer of, has
pending bug report(s) which include translation updates or fixes
for po-debconf, namely bug number 512864 (and maybe other similar bugs).

The i18n team is now hunting the very last bits of missing localization
and your package went on our radar. You may have uploaded recently but,
unfortunately for you, you then got *another* l10n bug report.

So, sorry for this, but the radar beeped at your package and here am I
with an NMU intent...:-)

I have the intention, as part of a more general action of the Debian
i18n Task Force to build and possibly upload a non-maintainer upload
for xmcd in order to fix this as well as all pending translations
for the debconf templates.

Of course, an upload made by you would even be better...:-)

Such changes are always harmless, which explains why I safely consider
building NMU's for such issues even though they're obviously non critical.

The schedule for the NMU (in case it happens, that is if you agree with it
or if I don't receive any answer in 10 days) is roughly the following:

Saturday, September 19, 2009 : send this notice
 Wednesday, September 23, 2009 : post a NMU announcement to debian-i18n
with you
 (maintainer) CC'ed
this can happen earlier if the maintainer agrees
In such case, the deadlines below will also
 happen earlier
Tuesday, September 29, 2009 : (midnight) deadline for receiving
translation updates
Wednesday, September 30, 2009 : build the package and upload it to
DELAYED/7-day
send the NMU patch to the BTS
Wednesday, October 07, 2009 : NMU reaches incoming

If you intent to upload yourself, please notify me so that I interrupt
the process on my side. Please also don't upload without a discussion
with me. Some translators might send a few new translations and I can handle
a round of translation updates for you. Really, don't upload silently...:-)

In case I upload an NMU, I will subscribe to the Package Tracking System for
xmcd and follow its life for 60 days after my NMU in order to fix
any issue potentially introduced by my upload.

Let me know, as soon as possible, if you have any kind of objection to this
process.

If you'd rather do the fix yourself, I will of course leave the package
alone. Same if you have reasons not to do the update now.

Aha, you got more courage than me. I agree with all these changes
which are exactly inline which what I was thinking about the package
descriptions (particularly the part sayign what the package is good
for...before saying what it is not..:-))

I'll include your proposed changed in the final review. There's
actually no good reason for doing something else.

I think that my lazyness was probably influenced by the feeling that

Bug#512864: Announce of the upcoming NMU for the xmcd package

2009-09-24 Thread Christian Perrier
Dear maintainer of xmcd and Debian translators,

Some days ago, I sent a notice to the maintainer of the xmcd Debian
package, mentioning the status of at least one old po-debconf translation
update in the BTS.

The package is currently translated to:
bg cs de es eu fi fr gl it ja nb nl pt ro ru sv ta tr vi

Among these, the following translations are incomplete:

If you did any of the, currently incomplete, translations you will get
ANOTHER mail with the translation to update.

Other translators also have the opportunity to create new translations
for this package. Once completed, please send them as a bug report
against the xmcd package so I can incorporate them in the build.

The deadline for receiving updates and new translations is Wednesday, September
30, 2009. If you
are not in time you can always send your translation to the BTS.

The POT file is attached to this mail.

If the maintainer objects to this process I will immediately abort my NMU
and send him/her all updates I receive.

Otherwise the following will happen (or already has):

Saturday, September 19, 2009 : send the first intent to NMU notice to
 the package maintainer.
Thursday, September 24, 2009 : send this notice
Wednesday, September 30, 2009 : (midnight) deadline for receiving
translation updates
Thursday, October 01, 2009 : build the package and upload it to
DELAYED/7-day
send the NMU patch to the BTS
Thursday, October 08, 2009 : NMU uploaded to incoming

Thanks for your efforts and time.

I'm working on that package for another reason (debconf templates
review). It has just been orphaned so I guess that I could fix this
while I upload a QA upload with the rewritten templates and
translation updates.

However, I have very limited skills about all this autostuff and might
need help.

What I see right now is;

automake1.4, automake1.7, automake1.9

in Build-Depends...

Isn't that strange?

Could it be possible to remove 1.4 and 1.7 and just rebuild? I don't
know and I would appreciate input...

No, I don't have any thoughts..:)

I went on this package because its templates were changed by the former
maintainer (Paul Slootman) when he uploaded the last version

Paul actually apparently tried to fix every pending bug report in the
package before orphaning it (obvisouly because he ack'ed that, not
using it anymore he could not maintain it properly).

So, my involvment there is just to bring back the debconf l10n to a
good shape and do a review of the rewritten debconf templates. And I
know nothing about the package.

Stil, maybe Paul could give a small help in this. That might include
some hints about the need for the package nowadays. I can roughly
guess that ISDN stuff is much less widely used now...but that's only a
rought guess and I may be very wrong (some places, such as Germany,
had|have a quite wide development of ISDN so there may be people who
ar still using what's provided in the package.

Bug#550030: isdnutils: [debconf_rewrite] Debconf templates and debian/control review

2009-10-06 Thread Christian Perrier
Package: isdnutils
Version: N/A
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

Dear Debian maintainer,

On Friday, September 18, 2009, I notified you of the beginning of a review
process
concerning debconf templates for isdnutils.

The debian-l10n-english contributors have now reviewed these templates,
and the proposed changes are attached to this bug report.

Please review the suggested changes, and if you have any
objections, let me know in the next 3 days.

However, please try to avoid uploading isdnutils with these changes
right now.

The second phase of this process will begin on Saturday, October 10, 2009, when
I will
coordinate updates to translations of debconf templates.

The call for translation updates and new translations will run until
about Saturday, October 31, 2009. Please avoid uploading a package with fixed
or changed
debconf templates and/or translation updates in the meantime. Of
course, other changes are safe.

Please note that this is an approximative delay, which depends on my
own availability to process this work and is influenced by the fact
that I simultaneously work on many packages.

Around Sunday, November 01, 2009, I will contact you again and will send a
final patch
summarizing all the updates (changes to debconf templates,
updates to debconf translations and new debconf translations).

Again, thanks for your attention and cooperation.

You'll see in debian-i18n that I had to change again the translation
of one string, the DefaultChoice one.

In your case, it has to be "translated" to "other" as Finland is not
in the supported country list.

This is fixed in the attached file. So you don't really have anything
to do, this is just FYI.

PS: you probably got a call for translations in the meantime,

The second IPPP0 variable is not prefixed by "$", which will lead to
non working variable substitution.

The attached patch fixes this.

Reminder for isdnutils translation updates

2009-10-29 Thread Christian Perrier
This is a reminder for the running translation round for debconf
templates of isdnutils.

Currently complete languages:
cs de es-old es eu fi fr it pt ru sv vi

Currently existing but incomplete languages:
 ca gl ja nl tr

Please send out updates before Friday, October 30, 2009.

On Saturday, October 31, 2009, I will notify
the isdnutils maintainers that they can upload a new package
version.

So, if you have something being worked on, please send it as
soon as possible.

Please contact me privately if you want to obtain the PO file for
incomplete languages. The POT file can be obtained from the list
archives.

There is always a chance that a translation you or your team sent
slipped through my mail and spam filters. If you indeed send an update
as a bug report and your language is still listed here, please point
me to the bug number.

I just did a QA upload (isdnutils is orphaned and I was fixing l10n
bugs plus each and every trivial stuff I could find) where calls to
MAKEDEV with an hardcoded path were replaced by calls to "MAKEDEV"
alone.

I'm not sure that will solve the problem. I'm actually sure of the
contrary..:-)

The problem probably comes from makedev being an extra package now
while it was essential in the past.

So, the solution is probably adding it to Depends (or Pre-Depends? I
need to check the policy about this).

Even though I'm not the package maintainer, I can probably easily fix that.

Well, the result is about the same: the package maintainer scripts
were assuming it to be available without relying on a dependency.

Erm, the point is not turning makedev into an essential package or
have it installed on every Debian system, but having capiutils (and
the few other binary packages from isdnutils) depend on it because it
needs a call to MAKEDEV in postinst. So, makedev would then be
installed on every system.that has one of these packages.

Hmmm, the addition of "set -e" was meant to be a "lintian cleaning"
for the package while doing l10n updates (something I do very often
during such l10n uploads).

Apparently, the package was in a worse shape than I imaginedand
debconf stuff is not done in a standard way.

So, well, either I find the right fix quite quickly for this...or I
will re-hide the issue under the rug and just drop the "set -e" line.

.../...

At first glance, it seems that replacing all "db_input foo/bar" by
"db_input foo/bar || true" (in isdnutils-base.config, for instance)
could be what makes things work *without* "set +e". Untested, though

Intent to NMU sun-java6 to fix pending po-debconf l10n bugs

2009-11-26 Thread Christian Perrier
Dear Debian maintainer,

The sun-java6 Debian package, which you are the maintainer of, has
pending bug report(s) which include translation updates or fixes
for po-debconf, namely bug number 535184 (and maybe other similar bugs).

The i18n team is now hunting the very last bits of missing localization
and your package went on our radar. You may have uploaded recently but,
unfortunately for you, you then got *another* l10n bug report.

So, sorry for this, but the radar beeped at your package and here am I
with an NMU intent...:-)

I have the intention, as part of a more general action of the Debian
i18n Task Force to build and possibly upload a non-maintainer upload
for sun-java6 in order to fix this as well as all pending translations
for the debconf templates.

Friday, November 27, 2009 : send this notice
 Tuesday, December 01, 2009 : post a NMU announcement to debian-i18n with
you
 (maintainer) CC'ed
this can happen earlier if the maintainer agrees
In such case, the deadlines below will also
 happen earlier
Monday, December 07, 2009 : (midnight) deadline for receiving
translation updates
Tuesday, December 08, 2009 : build the package and upload it to
DELAYED/7-day
send the NMU patch to the BTS
Tuesday, December 15, 2009 : NMU reaches incoming

If you intent to upload yourself, please notify me so that I interrupt
the process on my side. Please also don't upload without a discussion
with me. Some translators might send a few new translations and I can handle
a round of translation updates for you. Really, don't upload silently...:-)

In case I upload an NMU, I will subscribe to the Package Tracking System for
sun-java6 and follow its life for 60 days after my NMU in order to fix
any issue potentially introduced by my upload.

Let me know, as soon as possible, if you have any kind of objection to this
process.

If you'd rather do the fix yourself, I will of course leave the package
alone. Same if you have reasons not to do the update now.

Bug#535184: Announce of the upcoming NMU for the sun-java6 package

2009-12-01 Thread Christian Perrier
Dear maintainer of sun-java6 and Debian translators,

Some days ago, I sent a notice to the maintainer of the sun-java6 Debian
package, mentioning the status of at least one old po-debconf translation
update in the BTS.

I announced the intent to build and possibly upload a non-maintainer upload
for this package in order to fix this long-time pending localization
bug as well as all other pending translations.

The package maintainer agreed for the NMU or did not respond in four
days, so I will proceed with the NMU.

The full planned schedule is available at the end of this mail.

The package is currently translated to:
cs da de es fr ja pt ru sk sv

Among these, the following translations are incomplete:

If you did any of the, currently incomplete, translations you will get
ANOTHER mail with the translation to update.

Other translators also have the opportunity to create new translations
for this package. Once completed, please send them as a bug report
against the sun-java6 package so I can incorporate them in the build.

The deadline for receiving updates and new translations is Tuesday, December
08, 2009. If you
are not in time you can always send your translation to the BTS.

The POT file is attached to this mail.

If the maintainer objects to this process I will immediately abort my NMU
and send him/her all updates I receive.

Otherwise the following will happen (or already has):

Friday, November 27, 2009 : send the first intent to NMU notice to
 the package maintainer.
Wednesday, December 02, 2009 : send this notice
Tuesday, December 08, 2009 : (midnight) deadline for receiving
translation updates
Wednesday, December 09, 2009 : build the package and upload it to
DELAYED/7-day
send the NMU patch to the BTS
Wednesday, December 16, 2009 : NMU uploaded to incoming

Thanks for your efforts and time.

Bug#569282: sun-java6: [INTL:fr] French debconf templates translation update

2010-02-11 Thread Christian Perrier
Package: sun-java6

$ podebconf-report-po

This will go through debian/po/*.po files, find those needing an
update, extract the translators data from these files and prepare a
mail to send to these translators (you can also use the
"--languageteam" switch to also mail the mail addresses listed in
"Language-Team" field).

You can also use this utility to request for new translations:

$ podebconf-report-po --call

This will send a mail to debian-i...@lists.debian.org with all the
needed information and material for new translators to add new
languages to your supported languages.

If you apply this policy, please forget about these remarks, of
courseThis message is generic..:-)

Bug#569352: sun-java6: Broken URL in debconf to complete license

2010-02-11 Thread Christian PERRIER
Quoting Helge Kreutzmann (deb...@helgefjell.de):

> Today a call for translation updates was made (only to some lists,
> e.g. German and Swedish, but not e.g. for French or to -i18n for new

This happened probably because I sent an update for French today with
a text suggesting the maintainer to issue such calls for translations
when changing templates.

So, (s)he of course had a complete French translation, hence no call
to the French list. And (s)he probably didn't use the --call switch of
po-debconf-reportpo, hence no call for new translations in -i18n

And, nice catch for the URL, I didn't notice this..:-)

Intent to upload tgif to fix pending po-debconf l10n bugs

2010-03-13 Thread Christian PERRIER
Dear QA team,

The tgif Debian package, which is orphaned, has
pending bug report(s) which include translation updates or fixes
for po-debconf, namely bug number 539590 (and maybe other similar bugs).

The i18n team is now hunting the very last bits of missing localization
and that package went on our radar.

I have the intention, as part of a more general action of the Debian
i18n Task Force to build and possibly upload a QA upload
for tgif in order to fix this as well as all pending translations
for the debconf templates.

I will though investigate the package to check whether it is still OK
to keep it in the archive. If it appears to be too outdated, obsolete
or any other reason, I might call for the package removal.

The schedule for this work is roughly the following:

Saturday, March 13, 2010 : send this notice
 Saturday, March 13, 2010 : post a update announcement to debian-i18n
Saturday, March 20, 2010 : (midnight) deadline for receiving translation
updates
Sunday, March 21, 2010 : build the package and upload it

I will subscribe to the Package Tracking System for tgif and
follow its life for 60 days after my upload in order to fix any issue
potentially introduced by my upload.

Let me know, as soon as possible, if you have any kind of objection to this
process.

Bug#539590: Announce of the upcoming NMU for the tgif package

2010-03-19 Thread Christian PERRIER
Dear maintainer of tgif and Debian translators,

Some days ago, I sent a notice to the maintainer of the tgif Debian
package, mentioning the status of at least one old po-debconf translation
update in the BTS.

The package is currently translated to:
ca cs da de es eu fi fr gl ja nl pt ru sv

Among these, the following translations are incomplete:

If you did any of the, currently incomplete, translations you will get
ANOTHER mail with the translation to update.

Other translators also have the opportunity to create new translations
for this package. Once completed, please send them as a bug report
against the tgif package so I can incorporate them in the build.

The deadline for receiving updates and new translations is Thursday, March 25,
2010. If you
are not in time you can always send your translation to the BTS.

The POT file is attached to this mail.

If the maintainer objects to this process I will immediately abort my NMU
and send him/her all updates I receive.

Otherwise the following will happen (or already has):

Saturday, March 13, 2010 : send the first intent to NMU notice to
 the package maintainer.
Friday, March 19, 2010 : send this notice
Thursday, March 25, 2010 : (midnight) deadline for receiving translation
updates
Friday, March 26, 2010 : build the package and upload it to DELAYED/7-day
send the NMU patch to the BTS
Friday, April 02, 2010 : NMU uploaded to incoming

Thanks for your efforts and time.

Intent to NMU newpki-server to fix pending po-debconf l10n bugs

2010-04-07 Thread Christian PERRIER
Dear Debian maintainer,

The newpki-server Debian package, which you are the maintainer of, has
pending bug report(s) which include translation updates or fixes
for po-debconf, namely bug number 465168 (and maybe other similar bugs).

The i18n team is now hunting the very last bits of missing localization
and your package went on our radar. You may have uploaded recently but,
unfortunately for you, you then got *another* l10n bug report.

So, sorry for this, but the radar beeped at your package and here am I
with an NMU intent...:-)

I have the intention, as part of a more general action of the Debian
i18n Task Force to build and possibly upload a non-maintainer upload
for newpki-server in order to fix this as well as all pending translations
for the debconf templates.

Wednesday, April 07, 2010 : send this notice
Sunday, April 11, 2010 : post a NMU announcement to debian-i18n with you
 (maintainer) CC'ed
this can happen earlier if the maintainer agrees
In such case, the deadlines below will also
 happen earlier
Saturday, April 17, 2010 : (midnight) deadline for receiving translation
updates
Sunday, April 18, 2010 : build the package and upload it to DELAYED/7-day
send the NMU patch to the BTS
Sunday, April 25, 2010 : NMU reaches incoming

If you intent to upload yourself, please notify me so that I interrupt
the process on my side. Please also don't upload without a discussion
with me. Some translators might send a few new translations and I can handle
a round of translation updates for you. Really, don't upload silently...:-)

In case I upload an NMU, I will subscribe to the Package Tracking System for
newpki-server and follow its life for 60 days after my NMU in order to fix
any issue potentially introduced by my upload.

Let me know, as soon as possible, if you have any kind of objection to this
process.

If you'd rather do the fix yourself, I will of course leave the package
alone. Same if you have reasons not to do the update now.

2010-04-17 Thread Christian PERRIER
Dear maintainer of wmnetmon and Debian translators,

I announced the intent to build and upload this package in order to
fix this long-time pending localization bug as well as all other
pending translations.

The full planned schedule is available at the end of this mail.

The package is currently translated to:
cs da de fr ja nl pt ru sv vi

Among these, the following translations are incomplete:

If you did any of the, currently incomplete, translations you will get
ANOTHER mail with the translation to update.

Other translators also have the opportunity to create new translations
for this package. Once completed, please send them as a bug report
against the wmnetmon package so I can incorporate them in the build.

The deadline for receiving updates and new translations is Friday, April 23,
2010. If you
are not in time you can always send your translation to the BTS.

The POT file is attached to this mail.

If the maintainer objects to this process I will immediately abort my NMU
and send him/her all updates I receive.

Otherwise the following will happen (or already has):

Saturday, April 17, 2010 : send this notice
Friday, April 23, 2010 : (midnight) deadline for receiving translation
updates
Saturday, April 24, 2010 : build the package and upload it

Thanks for your efforts and time.

Intent to NMU jwchat to fix pending po-debconf l10n bugs

2010-05-18 Thread Christian PERRIER
Dear Debian maintainer,

The jwchat Debian package, which you are the maintainer of, has
pending bug report(s) which include translation updates or fixes
for po-debconf, namely bug number 558055 (and maybe other similar bugs).

The i18n team is now hunting the very last bits of missing localization
and your package went on our radar. You may have uploaded recently but,
unfortunately for you, you then got *another* l10n bug report.

So, sorry for this, but the radar beeped at your package and here am I
with an NMU intent...:-)

I have the intention, as part of a more general action of the Debian
i18n Task Force to build and possibly upload a non-maintainer upload
for jwchat in order to fix this as well as all pending translations
for the debconf templates.

Of course, an upload made by you would even be better...:-)

Such changes are always harmless, which explains why I safely consider
building NMU's for such issues even though they're obviously non critical.

The schedule for the NMU (in case it happens, that is if you agree with it
or if I don't receive any answer in 11 days) is roughly the following:

Tuesday, May 18, 2010 : send this notice
Saturday, May 22, 2010 : post a NMU announcement to debian-i18n with you
 (maintainer) CC'ed
this can happen earlier if the maintainer agrees
In such case, the deadlines below will also
 happen earlier
Friday, May 28, 2010 : (midnight) deadline for receiving translation
updates
Saturday, May 29, 2010 : build the package and upload it to DELAYED/7-day
send the NMU patch to the BTS
Saturday, June 05, 2010 : NMU reaches incoming

If you intent to upload yourself, please notify me so that I interrupt
the process on my side. Please also don't upload without a discussion
with me. Some translators might send a few new translations and I can handle
a round of translation updates for you. Really, don't upload silently...:-)

In case I upload an NMU, I will subscribe to the Package Tracking System for
jwchat and follow its life for 60 days after my NMU in order to fix
any issue potentially introduced by my upload.

Let me know, as soon as possible, if you have any kind of objection to this
process.

If you'd rather do the fix yourself, I will of course leave the package
alone. Same if you have reasons not to do the update now.

Bug#558055: Announce of the upcoming NMU for the jwchat package

2010-05-23 Thread Christian PERRIER
Dear maintainer of jwchat and Debian translators,

Some days ago, I sent a notice to the maintainer of the jwchat Debian
package, mentioning the status of at least one old po-debconf translation
update in the BTS.

The package is currently translated to:
cs de es fi fr it ja nl pt pt_BR ru sv

Among these, the following translations are incomplete: fi nl pt_BR

If you did any of the, currently incomplete, translations you will get
ANOTHER mail with the translation to update.

Other translators also have the opportunity to create new translations
for this package. Once completed, please send them as a bug report
against the jwchat package so I can incorporate them in the build.

The deadline for receiving updates and new translations is Saturday, May 29,
2010. If you
are not in time you can always send your translation to the BTS.

The POT file is attached to this mail.

If the maintainer objects to this process I will immediately abort my NMU
and send him/her all updates I receive.

Otherwise the following will happen (or already has):

Tuesday, May 18, 2010 : send the first intent to NMU notice to
 the package maintainer.
Sunday, May 23, 2010 : send this notice
Saturday, May 29, 2010 : (midnight) deadline for receiving translation
updates
Sunday, May 30, 2010 : build the package and upload it to DELAYED/7-day
send the NMU patch to the BTS
Sunday, June 06, 2010 : NMU uploaded to incoming

Thanks for your efforts and time.

Bug#558055: Patch for the l10n upload of jwchat

2010-05-30 Thread Christian PERRIER

Dear maintainer of jwchat,

On Sunday, May 23, 2010 I sent you a notice announcing my intent to upload a
NMU of your package to fix its pending l10n issues, after an initial
notice sent on Tuesday, May 18, 2010.

We finally agreed that you would do the update yourself at the end of
the l10n update round.

That time has come.

To help you out, here's the patch which I would have used for an NMU.
Please feel free to use all of it...or only the l10n part of it.

Intent to upload mtink to fix pending po-debconf l10n bugs

Dear QA team,

The mtink Debian package, which is orphaned, has

I will though investigate the package to check whether it is still OK
to keep it in the archive. If it appears to be too outdated, obsolete
or any other reason, I might call for the package removal.

The schedule for this work is roughly the following:

Wednesday, July 21, 2010 : send this notice
 Wednesday, July 21, 2010 : post a update announcement to debian-i18n
Wednesday, July 28, 2010 : (midnight) deadline for receiving translation

Intent to NMU ifplugd to fix pending po-debconf l10n bugs

2008-03-04 Thread Christian Perrier
(CC'ing Y Giridhar Appaji Nag who seems to be intending to take this
package over)

Dear Debian maintainer,

The ifplugd Debian package, which you are the maintainer of, has
pending bug report(s) which include translation updates or fixes
for po-debconf, namely bug number 414760 (and maybe other similar bugs).

Even if we're still far from the release of the next Debian version,
letting such bugs sleep in the BTS is simply lowering
the chances that your package interaction with its users may be done
in something else than the English language. It is also not
encouraging for translators.

I have the intention, as part of a more general action of the Debian
i18n Task Force to build and possibly upload a non-maintainer upload
for ifplugd in order to fix this as well as all pending translations
for the debconf templates.

Of course, an upload made by you would even be better...:-)

Such changes are always harmless, which explains why I safely consider
building NMU's for such issues even though they're obviously non critical.

The schedule for the NMU (in case it happens, that is if you agree with it
or if I don't receive any answer in 14 days) is roughly the following:

Wednesday, March 05, 2008 : send this notice
 Wednesday, March 19, 2008 : post a NMU announcement to debian-i18n with
you
 (maintainer) CC'ed
Saturday, March 29, 2008 : deadline for receiving translation updates
Sunday, March 30, 2008 : build the package and upload it to DELAYED/0-day
send the NMU patch to the BTS
Monday, March 31, 2008 : NMU uploaded to incoming

If you intent to upload yourself, please notify me so that I interrupt
the process on my side.

In case I upload an NMU, I will subscribe to the Package Tracking System for
ifplugd and follow its life for 60 days after my NMU in order to fix
any issue potentially introduced by my upload.

Let me know, as soon as possible, if you have any kind of objection to this
process.

If you'd rather do the fix yourself, I will of course leave the package
alone. Same if you have reasons not to do the update now.

I guess that the potential sponsor is Tolimar (aka Alex Schmehl), who I
have an entire confidence in.so that's fine by me.

In case he can't do the upload, I can do it. I generally avoid to commit
as long-term sponsor (too many sollicitations and I sometimes lack the
needed skills to check everything).but I can make an exception for
you because:

Bug#475885: htdig: Creates db files in /etc

As htdig is orphaned, I think that anyone can upload the fix. Just
checking whether someone is...otherwise I can try to build and upload.

Do you think that something should handle the transition ? That would
indeed be the trickier task to achieve...more than just patch and
upload.

Yes.

I don't know htdig enough to decide whether it's worth it or if these
files are recreated when reindexation takes place.

2008-05-12 Thread Christian Perrier
Dear maintainer of waproamd and Debian translators,

I will build a QA upload (the maintainer is MIA) for this package in
order to fix this long-time pending localization bug as well as all
other pending translations.

The full planned schedule is available at the end of this mail.

The package is currently translated to:
cs de fr nl pt pt_BR ru sv vi

Among these, the following translations are incomplete:

If you did any of the, currently incomplete, translations you will get
ANOTHER mail with the translation to update.

Other translators also have the opportunity to create new translations
for this package. Once completed, please send them as a bug report
against the waproamd package so I can incorporate them in the build.

The deadline for receiving updates and new translations is Wednesday,
May 21, 2008. If you are not in time you can always send your
translation to the BTS.

The POT file is attached to this mail.

Monday, May 12, 2008 : send the first intent to NMU notice to
 the package maintainer.

Bug#459931: Proposal to upload the new caudium package

2008-06-05 Thread Christian Perrier
Hello,

I went on caudium during the l10n NMU campaign for lenny. I noticed
the bad shape of the package and the proposal by Henrik to get a
sponsored upload to sid, which would fix 2 RC bugs.

I plan to upload the fixed package.

Bug#459931: Planning to upload caudium 1.4.12

2008-06-13 Thread Christian Perrier
In this bug, Henrik mentioned that he prepared a new upstream version
with him as maintainer, to solve this bug and bring caudium in sync
with upstream.

However, trying to build Henrik's package in pbuilder, I went on a
FTBFS.

Actually, this FTBFS is #475980. So using the patch proposed in that
bug would fix the two RC bugs.

I therefore propose to upload that version with the following
changelog, which merges all successive versions prepared by Henrik but
never uploaded. I would increase the epoch so that people who could
have used interim releases by Henrik can upgrade.

Henrik, that would set you as *official maintainer*, so I need an ACK
by you that it's OK. Please note that I don't really intend to remain
involved in that package which I have no interest into (I just went on
it because of an old l10n bug!)

Changelog:

caudium (3:1.4.12-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * New maintainer (Closes: #411675)
  * New upstream version, 1.4.12
  * It is hopefully fixing non installability on sid
Closes: #459931.
  * moved caudium-dev and caudium-perl to architecture: all
  * moved some devel files into caudium-dev
  * moved caudium-dev files to /usr/share/caudium
  * moved caudium-perl files to /usr/share/caudium
  * fixed lintian warnings and errors
  * New package translation Portuguese translation for debconf
messages, pt (Closes: #436553)
  * Repacked caudium as architecture "all", thus caudium now uses
/usr/share/caudium as serverdir instead of
/usr/lib/caudium (Closes: #21)
  * Fix FTBFS with correct include path. Closes: #475980
  * Add a watch file. Closes: #463346
  * ported fixes done by QA-team 2:1.4.9.1-4 and 2:1.4.9.1-5
  * fixed configure-stamp, so binary target don't re-configure all the time
  * fixed upgrade from old package, caudium-1.4.9 wouldn't stop before upgrade
  * Merge caudium-foo on ftp-masters recommendation
  * Fixes missing directory /var/log/caudium/localhost
  * Fixed permissions on /etc/caudium/servers
  * Fixed removeing dpkg-statoverrides at removal
  * Fixed chmod:ing cache files when upgrading
  * remove upper limit for pike package in control file
  * patch for apt-get as a client
  * fix the ssl-patch
  * fixed clean target
  * added patch for cgi.pike that was broken
  * added patch for start-caudium to force caudium-nbio instead of the new
suffler that seems broken
  * added patch for ssl that was broken
  * removes vera*ttf and lucida_unicode.ttf from source
  * remove recomends caudium-modules when depending on it in debian/control
  * removed debian/ - it only comes with the patch now
removed also jars(binary only) from orig source
  * Fixed more not-binnmuable-any-depends-all, with (= source:Version})
in control file
  * Fixed not-binnmuable-any-depends-all, with (>= source:Version})
in control file

2008-07-05 Thread Christian Perrier
Dear Debian translators,

diald is orphaned but has a few pending l10n translations. I'll then
build a QA upload to fix these.

The full planned schedule is available at the end of this mail.

The package is currently translated to:

Among these, the following translations are incomplete: pt_BR

If you did any of the, currently incomplete, translations you will get
ANOTHER mail with the translation to update.

Other translators also have the opportunity to create new translations
for this package. Once completed, please send them as a bug report
against the diald package so I can incorporate them in the build.

The deadline for receiving updates and new translations is Monday,
July 14, 2008. If you are not in time you can always send your
translation to the BTS.

The POT file is attached to this mail.

Schedule:

Saturday, July 05, 2008 : send the first intent to NMU notice to
 the package maintainer.
Saturday, July 05, 2008 : send this notice
Saturday, July 12, 2008 : (midnight) deadline for receiving translation
updates
Sunday, July 13, 2008 : build the package and upload it

Intent to upload htdig to fix pending po-debconf l10n bugs

2008-09-07 Thread Christian Perrier
The htdig Debian package, which is orphaned, has
pending bug report(s) which include translation updates or fixes
for po-debconf, namely bug number 487372 (and maybe other similar bugs).

I have the intention, as part of a more general action of the Debian
i18n Task Force to build and possibly upload htdig in order to fix
this as well as all pending translations for the debconf templates.

The schedule for the upload (in case it happens, that is if you agree with it
or if I don't receive any answer in 10 days) is roughly the following:

Monday, September 08, 2008 : post a NMU announcement to debian-i18n with you
 (maintainer) CC'ed
this can happen earlier if the maintainer agrees
In such case, the deadlines below will also
 happen earlier
September 15, 2008 : (midnight) deadline for receiving translation
updates
September 16, 2008 : build the package and upload it to DELAYED/2-day
send the NMU patch to the BTS
Sunday, September 21, 2008 : NMU reaches incoming

Apparently, Ivan Buresi also sent an update. Please feel free to use
whatever update we both sent as the only change in both cases is
removing the fuzzy markers introduced by the recent rewording of
templates (which indeed were anticipated in the French translation).

Please consider interacting with translators when introducing/modifying new debconf templates

2008-12-09 Thread Christian Perrier
Hello,

I just noticed new or modified debconf templates appearing for this
package.

I would like to suggest you to consider calling for debconf templates
review AND translation updates when you introduce new debconf
templates or modify the existing templates in a package or, if you
prefer, to send a call for translations after uploading the first
version that introduces new templates or templates changes.

This will be picked up by the debian-i18n contributors for your
package *this time*, but please read the following for future
reference.

1) Get your debconf templates reviewed
--

The Debian i18n contributors have developed a set of suggestions for
the writing style of debconf templates, to give them an overall
consistency all around Debian. These writing style suggestions are
explained in the Developers Reference. Lintian also warns about common
writing style concerns.

You should anyway consider asking in
[EMAIL PROTECTED] for a review of your debconf
templates. This should be done by sending the original templates
file(s), which are generally named debian/*templates to
[EMAIL PROTECTED]

It is suggested that you use a Subject field that the
debian-l10n-english participants have normalized, namely:
Subject: [TAF] templates:///

Replace "" by you package name and "" by the name of your templates file.

Someone will pick up the review to do, handle it, and finally send
you a bug report with the suggested templates. If you want, you can
ask for being CC'ed to the various discussions when the templates are reviewed.

2) Install po-debconf
-

If you test-build your package on your system, you shoud already have
it. Otherwise, consider apt-get installing it.

it will bring the needed utility.

3) Call for new translations

As soon as the templates have been reviewed, you can ask Debian
translators for new translations:

Just go to your package's build tree and use:

$ podebconf-report-po --call

This will propose you a generic mail which is to be sent to
[EMAIL PROTECTED] and call for new translations.

This utility will mention existing translations to avoid duplicate
work.

It will also attach the needed material to this mail.

Please also think about giving a deadline to translators. We like
deadlines..:-)

4) Always call for translation updates before uploading
---

(of course only when you change the debconf templates!)

If your package already includes debconf translations (ie *.po files
in debian/po), please consider calling for translation updates if you
happen to change something in the templates...or just in case when you
release a new version.

This is done with the following command:

$ podebconf-report-po

This will build private mails to translators (ie people listed in
"Last-Translator" in the PO files) for translations that are
incomplete. These mails will included the needed PO file for each
translator.

[ITR] templates://tpconfig/{templates}

2008-12-09 Thread Christian Perrier
Dear Debian maintainer,

The Debian internationalisation team and the Debian English
localisation team will soon begin the review of the debconf
templates used in tpconfig.

This review takes place for all packages that use debconf to interact with
users and its aims are:
- to improve the use of English in all debconf templates;
- to make the wording of debconf templates more consistent;
- to encourage more translations of templates.

Even if your first language is English, this process is likely to help
track down typos or errors, and improve consistency between the
debconf templates of your package and that of other packages in the
distribution.

The process involves both debian-l10n-english contributors and
Debian translators.

The details of the process are given in
http://wiki.debian.org/I18n/SmithDebconfReviewProcess.

I will act as the coordinator of this activity for tpconfig.

The first step of the process is to review the debconf source
template file(s) of tpconfig. This review will start on Friday, December 12,
2008, or
as soon as you acknowledge this mail with an agreement for us to
carry out this process.

All parts of the process will be carried out in close collaboration
with you, and, unless you explicitely ask for it, no upload nor NMU
will happen for tpconfig.

If you approve this process, please let us know by replying to this
mail. If some work in progress on your side would conflict with such a
rewrite (such as adding or removing debconf templates), please say so,
and we will defer the review to later in the development cycle.

Thank you for your attention.

2008-12-09 Thread Christian Perrier
Please find, for review, the debconf templates and packages descriptions for
the tpconfig source package.

This review will last from Tuesday, December 09, 2008 to Friday, December 19,
2008.

Please send reviews as unified diffs (diff -u) against the original
files. Comments about your proposed changes will be appreciated.

Your review should be sent as an answer to this mail.

When appropriate, I will send intermediate requests for review, with
"[RFRn]" (n>=2) as a subject tag.

When we will reach a consensus, I send a "Last Chance For
Comments" mail with "[LCFC]" as a subject tag.

Finally, the reviewed templates will be sent to the package maintainer
as a bug report, and a mail will be sent to this list with "[BTS]" as
a subject tag.
