Installing ... 2nd time ...
Hi all! My Powerbook is repaired! :) but ... on the new harddisk there is only MacOS installed ... ... and so the story begins ;) I´ve installed Debian and MacOS ... then I configured yaboot to can boot MacOS too. Worked ... fine :) but after rebooting, MacOS booted not yaboot ... :( If I do the mkofboot etc. command from the install shell this works but Yaboot is not booted. Only MacOS. How can I say OF to boot from bootstrap ? and: why has MacOS overwritten the settings of the Open Firmware ? Thanks for your help!!! Michael PS. Re: XFree86 running too slow in Performa 6500/300.
Hi Miguel, the Problem is for sure the installed memory. I would upgrade to at least 512 megs of ram to be able to use gnome in a proper way. I´m a friend of gnome but have you considered using something lighter till you have more ram available? like xfce or even better an window manager instead of a complete desktop environment. With 32megs of ram I think fluxbox would be best. Your machine must be swapping like hell. you could try swapping on an flash memory like an usb stick (does this machine have usb 2.0?). Don´t know exactly how long an usb stick will make it when tortured this way (used as a swap device). Read/Write cycles are limited on flash devices. ATI and Cinema 30" ... dual link seems not to work
Hi, does anyone got a 30" Cinema Display to work with an ATI Card? I know this might be the wrong list, because my System is Intel based, but it is an Apple MacPro with the ATI X1900. Tried with etch and fglrx but had no success so far. Option ForceMonitors "tmds2i" should enable dual link support, but it seems not to work. Xorg seems to be running.but the Cinema Display is flashing the led 3 times... Does anyone at least know what this means? Oh and btw. the Cinema Display is working in 1280x80 resolution and without the ForceMonitors Option. Thanks in advance. Perhaps you need to put gzipped into /usr/share/keymaps/mac/ then choose the keymap with kbdconfig or load temporatily with loadkeys. It´s easy to create a konsole map, if you go to console 2 and do showkeys. Greets, mfl > > -Ursprüngliche Nachricht- > Von: Michael Flaig [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Gesendet: Dienstag, 7. paulus kernels - where are they gone ?
Hi all... I wanted to download a new Version of Paulus´ Development kernel but when I checked kernel.xorxis.com I can´t find any Paulus Kernels. Are the Patches merged in the official Kernel ? My second question is: Has anybody get pmud to run on a PowerBook "2000 Modell" !? when I install it, my Harddisk stops and the system can´t do anything. Mouse and Keyboard does work. powerbook 15" 1Ghz question ...
Hi all, I thought about buying the Powerbook G4 15" 1GHz, but have a few GNU/Linux related questions. So I would be happy If someone who has this TiBook could give me some answeres ... As far as I know - Powermanagement does work with latest Benh Kernels (suspend) - XFree86 work's but without 3D Accelration - Sound works right? Do this components work? - PCMCIA Slot? (with pcmcia-cs? because of orinoco-cs monitor patch) - Modem? (heard that there is an closed source driver) How long can you work with your powerbook on battery power? Yes, i know, this depends on what you do with the Powerbook, right. But what are your experiences? - on normal working (vi, ssh, email, web, irc, etc.) - and on heavy cpu using (compiling, etc.) This is my most important question because I have an Pismo and could live with the slow cpu of the G3, but not with intel-like on-battery times :-/ And how often do you hear the fan? how hot will it get? is there a problem like the "toasted ibooks in sleep-mode"? ;) Regards, Michael
