lintian will complain if the name is not liblunar-1-0, this name is
come from "objdump -p /usr/lib/liblunar-1.so.0.0.0 | grep SONAME"

no, debian python policy 2.2 said the package name should be
python-foo, and python-lunar really provide a lunar module.

How to deal with Tag

When I use `apt-cache show xpdf', I can find a `Tag' entry. But I

Another question, How to find all-packages that has a tag `format::pdf'?

I think i am following the directive in [2]. And I am sorry that i am
not familiar with the polite/rule you mentioned here. maybe you should
submit a patch to improve this directive.

[2] http://www.nl.debian.org/devel/wnpp/#l3
RFA If you are going to adopt a package, retitle its bug to replace
‘RFA’ with ‘ITA’, in order for other people to know the package is being
adopted and to prevent its automatic removal from the archive, and set
yourself as the owner of the bug. To actually adopt the package, upload
it with your name in its Maintainer: field, and close this bug once the
package has been installed.

Anyway, you or Ionut can maintain this package. I don't care.

Thanks.

a manpage for a gui program without argument supporting is useless,
and many one do not write manpages[1]

[RFS] qterm: BBS client for X Window System written in Qt

2006-03-15 Thread LI Daobing
Hello,

I have papared a new deb package for qterm(0.4.0pre4-1), it fix a
FTBFS for g++-4.1 bug. It can be download from [1].

[1] http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/q/qterm/

It's not lintian and linda clean. lintian report following
warnings[2], linda report similar warnings. I don't know what's the
most proper way to deal with these warnings.

[2]
$ lintian qterm_0.4.0pre4-1_source.changes
W: qterm source: dh-make-template-in-source debian/manpage.1.ex
W: qterm source: dh-make-template-in-source debian/manpage.sgml.ex
[/2]

this package include a debian sub-directory, but this is not always
the case. for example, the 0.4.0-pre3 does not include debian
sub-directory. so I don't think qterm is a debian-native package. I
hope the upstream authors' can improve the release process.

there some several ways to deal with this warning:
a. leave it
b. repackage the source package
c. install fie under /usr/share/lintian/overrides/

I choose a becase I am lazy.

I need a sponsor to upload this package. Is there any sponsor want to
join me maintian this package?

Thanks.

I provide. the source is debian/qterm.dbk. the .ex files is not added

why don't you fix these warnings? In this case, it should be _really_ easy, to

you mean I should repackage the source package and rename it to 0.4.0pre4.ds1-1?

0.4.0pre4.ds1-1?

Err, no idea what ".ds1" is supposed to mean, and whether there's
actually a new upstream version. No, you are supposed to run lintian
with the -i option, or alternatively run

echo "W: qterm source: dh-make-template-in-source debian/manpage.1.ex" |
lintian-info

and read and understand the message, and then act accordingly.

These two files were not added by me. they are in the original
source[1]. so I think I have to repackage the source if I want to clear
the warnings.

[1]
$ tar tzvf qterm_0.4.0pre4.orig.tar.gz | grep ex$
-rw-r--r-- nichloas/nichloas1877 2003-04-29 15:46:07
qterm-0.4.0pre4.orig/debian/manpage.1.ex
-rw-r--r-- nichloas/nichloas4547 2003-04-29 15:46:07

Ah, I wasn't aware of that. Upstream has to fix that, you should add a
note for ftp-master so that they know who's responsible.

Can you tell me how to add this note, Thanks.

Hm, I'd either put it into README.Debian, or send a mail to ftp-master
just after uploading to the NEW queue. Maybe as a reply to the "Foo is
NEW" message, so that the subject clearly indicates what this is about.

I am waiting for a DD help me upload this packge. Can you upload this

RFS: zinnia (Online hand recognition system with machine learning)

2009-02-12 Thread LI Daobing
Dear mentors,

I am looking for a sponsor for my package "zinnia".

* Package name: zinnia
 Version : 0.02
 Upstream Author : Taku Kudo
* URL : http://zinnia.sourceforge.net/
* License : BSD
 Programming Lang: C++ (with Python, Perl, Ruby binding, with swig)
 Description : Online hand recognition system with machine learning

Zinnia is a simple, customizable and portable online hand recognition
system based on Support Vector Machines. Zinnia simply receives user pen
strokes as a sequence of coordinate data and outputs n-best characters
sorted by SVM confidence. To keep portability, Zinnia doesn't have any
rendering functionality. In addition to recognition, Zinnia provides
training module that allows us to create any hand-written recognition
systems with low-cost.

P.S.

1. zinnia declare it licensed under New BSD License, but the COPYING
file is a GPL template (this is a known bug:
http://sourceforge.net/support/tracker.php?aid=2592429)

2. zinnia is required by scim-tegaki (ITP:
http://bugs.debian.org/514961), which is handwriting input method for
scim (can be used to input Chinese and Japanese).

It builds these binary packages:
libzinnia-dev - development files for the zinnia library
libzinnia-doc - documention files for the zinnia library
libzinnia0 - online hand recognition library with machine learning
libzinnia0-dbg - debugging symbols for the zinnia library
python-zinnia - Python binding for the zinnia library
zinnia - utils for the zinnia library

The package appears to be lintian clean.

The upload would fix these bugs: 514969

The package can be found on mentors.debian.net:
- URL: http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/z/zinnia
- Source repository: deb-src http://mentors.debian.net/debian unstable
main contrib non-free
- dget http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/z/zinnia/zinnia_0.02-1.dsc

I would be glad if someone uploaded this package for me.

Kind regards

1. why this package is a native package? i think a normal package
should be better

2. one lintian warning:
W: fsprotect source: out-of-date-standards-version 3.8.0 (current is 3.8.1)

3. can you explain why you override the following lintian warnings
$ cat debian/fsprotect.lintian-overrides
fsprotect: non-standard-toplevel-dir fsprotect/
fsprotect: virtual-package-depends-without-real-package-depends
fsprotect: package-contains-empty-directory fsprotect/system/
fsprotect: package-contains-empty-directory fsprotect/tmp/

especially any good reason to override this warning:
virtual-package-depends-without-real-package-depends?

thanks.

1. lintian warning:
W: valkyrie source: timewarp-standards-version (2008-05-02 <
2008-06-04), you forget to update your changelog's timestamp(you can
use dch to update this timestamp).
you also need change standards version to 3.8.1

2. no watch file and no get-orig-source target in debian/rules

3. valkyrie 1.4.0 only works for valgrind >= 3.4, please change the
description and set version constrain in recommends.

version=3

2. description should be "Chinese Chess game using UCCI", remove the
first "a". a proof reading in debian-l10n-engl...@lists.debian.org

3. please confirm the license of the following two images:

still one more issue: the copyright file

the debian policy[1] said you should provide the verbatim copy of the

1. the copyright of files is conflicted, we can't release a package
with GPLv2 when it contains file which is licensed under GPLv3 (am I
wrong? who can have a double check on this?)

2. maybe i am too offensive on this point:
/usr/share/gmchess/p1.png and /usr/share/gmchess/p2.png are very
widely used in the forums of China, so can you have a double check on
these two files, whether their's copyright holder is lerosua (just
like other icon files), thanks.

I can't find the debian dir in this url.

I don't mean the source control of upstream. if you don't use any
version control system when packaging, just remove these two fields.
