ant, j2sdk1.4 and j2sdk1.5 are in contrib or non-free so your package
couldn't go to main. (ant is moving to main, but j2sdk1.x are not!) The
section (in debian/control:Section) should be contrib/utils

I see there is a client and a server, do you package the client or the
server or both?

Did you tried to build/run it with free tools (kaffe, jamvm, sablevm,
gcj/gij, jikes, etc...)? (it seems some javax.swing.text.html.* classes
are missing in kaffe 1.1.5-x but I don't know if there've been
implemented yet...)

In the particular case of Java, and in the particular case of this
program, you'll be able to study and modify the program, but you'll not
be able to modify the source of the runtime nor the compiler (but you
can if you apply to a special license from Sun)! :-D

The program will be in contrib because of non-free JDK's, please, have a
look at the Java Trap to understand what the (our) problem is with Java:

Whats about eclipse? Michael Koch is working on the eclipse package and
there is a j2ee plugin that understand web.xml and xml. There also are
some eclipse xml editors and with the dtd, you can edit it like a charm.
Even if I don't think I'll use the webxml package, I don't want to be a

The SAXPath project is a Simple API for XPath. SAXPath is analogous to

regardless of the target object model, whether its dom4j, JDOM, DOM,

Hi all,

I'd like to add an icon to a menu entry.

What are the width and height of the icon?

Are 32 by 32 pixels OK? Do I have to ship more sizes?

I think the icon have to be .xpm

It's normal because you built it on this architecture but the most
important is the *_all* in the '.deb'

No problem with that, maybe you can add this information in your
README.Debian file.

There is a document descriing the use of debconf but I did not find the
exact reference :'(!

You can see the man page of debconf:

DEBCONF(7)

Priorities

Another nice feature of debconf is that the questions it asks you
are prioritized. If you don't want to be bothered about every little
thing, you can set up debconf to only ask you the most important
questions. On the other hand, if you are a control freak, you can
make it show you all questions. Each question has a priority. In
increasing order of importance:

lowVery trivial questions that have defaults that will work in
   the vast majority of cases.

medium Normal questions that have reasonable defaults.

high Questions that don't have a reasonable default.

critical Questions that you really, really need to see (or else).

Only questions with a priority equal to or greater than the
priority you choose will be shown to you. You can set the
priority value by reconfiguring debconf, or temporarily by passing
--priority= followed by the value to the dpkg-reconfigure (8) and
dpkg-preconfigure (8) com- mands, or by setting the DEBIAN_PRIORITY
environment variable.

So if phpLDAPadmin absolutely needs an url to an ldap server, you'll
have to ask the admin. If it's not needed you don't need to ask no
question.

Best regards,

RFT: charva -- java windowing toolkit for text terminals

Request For Tests (and for Review and for Comments)

Hi all,

It's the first time I package a jni library ('java native interface')

listboxes etc. in a terminal.

You can apt-get libcharva1-java and libcharva1-jni here:

deb-src http://people.debian.org/myjava/charva/ ./

You can build the examples (don't forget to put

README.Debian first! ;)

Note: You can answer me in private,
the result will be in the pool asap.

Warning: It's in contrib and you'll need a jdk to build and a jre to
run... maybe nonfree jdk and jre at the moment.

I'd be glad to sponsor your package.

I got one remark. I see lib-dom-java 'Depends' libdom1-java, that's
correct but not enough. You have to make libdom1-java 'Provides,
Conflicts and Replaces' lib-dom-java.

,[ Debian Policy ]
| 7.5.2 Replacing whole packages, forcing their removal
|
| Secondly, Replaces allows the packaging system to resolve which package
| should be removed when there is a conflict - see Conflicting binary
| packages - Conflicts, Section 7.3. This usage only takes effect when the
| two packages do conflict, so that the two usages of this field do not
| interfere with each other.
|
| In this situation, the package declared as being replaced can be a
| virtual package, so for example, all mail transport agents (MTAs) would

In the policy?

/usr/share/doc/debian-policy/policy.txt.gz

3.2.1. Version numbers based on dates
-

...
However, in some cases where the upstream version number is based
on a date (e.g., a development "snapshot" release) the package
management system cannot handle these version numbers without
epochs. For example, dpkg will consider "96May01" to be greater
 than "96Dec24".

To prevent having to use epochs for every new upstream version, the
version number should be changed to the following format in such
cases: "19960501", "19961224". It is up to the maintainer whether
he/she wants to bother the upstream maintainer to change the
 version numbers upstream, too.

I downloaded your package but was unable to unpack it for two reasons:

1)

2)

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/debian/bugs/jbofh-swing$ tar zxf

[Andrea, I don't know if your read -mentors so I'cc:ing you. I do so you
can only use the Mail-Followup-To header]

Only with a java point-of-view, your package seems great, you
debian/rules file is good (well, cdbs rocks!). But I have some general
comments... (important comment at the end about the library
dependencies!)

Andreas Schuldei <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> writes:

> Please send the feedback to *me* (too), it was my attempt of java
> packageing. (c:

I don't know the program so it's difficult to tell you if things are
done the right way or not ;-) here are some advices:

debian/copyright:

o You did the package from a cvs checkout but there is a release from
February 11 2004 (I think you made the package before maybe). Anyway,
maybe you'd better cvs export or remove the .cvsignore and the CVS
  directories.

o About this, your debian/copyright file is not good because you need to
give an url to download the tarball:

  "It was downloaded from cvs.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/cerebrum"

I think you can change this line by:
  http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=60830
  or simply:
  http://sourceforge.net/projects/cerebrum

About it, Why does your package is called 'jbofh-swing' and upstream
  is called 'cerebrum'.

o Upstream Authors field should look like this (remove the brackets and
put the real name of the developers):

  Upstream Authors: Are Engstrom
Bard Henry Moum jakobsen
Erik Gorset
Havard Stranden
Havar Fruseth
Hallvard B Furuseth
Harald Meland
Igor Rafienko
Jasmina Hodzic
Kjetil T. Homme
Andreas Nilsen
Tom-Anders N. Rost
Mathias Meisfjordskar
kenneth johansen
Odd Arne Haugen
Odd Rune Dahle
Petter Reinholdtsen
Fredrik Vogel
Rune Froysa
Andreas Schuldei
Ole-Marius Moe-Helgesen
Stian Soiland
Steinar Hamre
Steinar Kleven
Sturle Sunde
Thomas Langas

o Copyright: GPL is not enough, you have to write the name of the
  copyright holder and the year(s).

debian/rules:

o great... but you only build the java part, there is also Python part,
  isn't it?

debian/control:

o I don't understand why your package does not have the name of the
upstream?! Note that you can have a different name for Source and for
  Package.

o Maybe have a look at the Debian-Java Policy but the name of the
package does not conform to the policy. If it's a library, it should
be named 'libname-java'. If it's a program, you can name it as a
'normal' package, but in every cases, you don't need the -swing
  suffix.

o Build-Depends-Indep does contain python but I'm not sure you use it?
  (else, it's correct to me).

o Depends: j2sdk1.4 | j2sdk1.3 | kaffe (>= 1.1.3) | java-virtual-machine
   j2sdk1.4 | j2sdk1.3 | kaffe | java-compiler

this is wrong because (well, you copy some two times and it's
not necessary ;-)), but if it's a program, you need to depend
   on java[12]-runtime, if it's a library... well, it's not ;-)

For your package, as it needs Swing, you cannot depend on
kaffe (no Swing at the moment) and as it's a program, you
don't need a java-compiler. I think you can replace the part
   I pasted by this one:

   j2sdk1.4 | j2sdk1.3 | java2-runtime

The Package:

o You place your program in /usr/share/java but this place is only for
java libraries, not java applications (oups I think I'm doing the same
thing for argouml! Got to change this!). I think
/usr/share/package/thefile.jar should be a better place.

o You need to make a shell script to launch your application (see the
  latest argouml or ant package).

  - As it depends on java2 runtime, you can *not* launch your
application with /usr/bin/java because even if someone has
j2sdk1.[34] installed, (s)he also can install a non-free java
virtual machine and change the alternative so /usr/bin/java could be
a symlink to sablevm or gij or kaffe or else and none of them can
run applications with Swing.

  - You must set a correct 'classpath' for your application to run

o I'm not sure if the package is finished, but don't you have to build a
database for the application to run?

Java Dependencies:

o There is a jbofh-swing/java/jbofh/lib directory with some libs. Some
  exists in Debian: libreadline-java, liblog4j1.2-java or liblog4j-java
  (I don't know what is log4jME.jar?!), I don't know exactly what is
xmlrpc-1.1.jar in this directory but we have a lot of jakar

right. RedHat, gcj guys and classpath guys are working hard to provide

Yo!

I'd like to add a debian/watch file to antlr but it seems I badly did

debian/watch

http://www.antlr.org/download/antlr-(.*)\.tar\.gz debian uupdate

But it's not good:

I did try to remove the 'debian uupdate' (because it seems useful only
for ftp? correct me if I'm wrong...)

But uscan does not want it.

You can see downloadable files here:

You should ;-)

What is netscape.jar? Is it javascript (see rhino)? Is it about ldap
(see libldap-java)?

Acme.jar is just one or two classes and I think it's free, but I don't
know which package could give you these two classes. Just open the jar
and put the content in jmol.jar.

Someone is working on vecmath.

That solution is acceptable if the three jars are really free, but I
don't like the idea not to build a jar from sources. Do you have the
license of these three jars and can't you build them from sources? If
you can, you should make separate packages from these three jars (as I
already said, netscape.jar could be in Debian but with a different name,
Acme, you can put it in the binary, and someone is working on vecmath).

I don't have time to review your package now, but you can join the
debian-java mailing list, you could have also some help there.

[HELP] update-alternatives

2005-02-27 Thread Arnaud Vandyck
Hi,

I got problems with update-alternatives, I'd like to have your
help. kaffe used to provide 'appletviewer' application (this is an
alternative). I'd like to be sure to remove the alternative only if it
exists. I have a .prerm code like this:

,[ debian/kaffe.prerm ]
| #!/bin/sh
| set -e
|
| if [ "$1" != "upgrade" ] ; then
| for file in javadoc java jar appletviewer javap rmic \
| rmiregistry serialver javac javah; do
| update-alternatives --remove $file /usr/lib/kaffe/bin/$file
| done
| fi
|
| #DEBHELPER#
`

I suppose I can add a condition in the for loop but I don't know *what*
I have to test. Can I do something like:

(for loop)
if [ -f /usr/lib/kaffe/bin/$file ]
   update-alternatives --remove $file /usr/lib/kaffe/bin/$file
fi
(end of the for loop)

Also, I don't know why the javadoc alternative (and the javadoc kaffe
manpage) are not removed...

Many thanks for your help,

I got a d/watch file like this

 debian uupdate

the release number in () is the same than the one in $1.

uscan finds the good number under the () but does not replace the result
with the $1.

Is there a way to do that?

If debmake is out-of-date, what are the best tools used today to make

Looking for a sponsor for libgnujaxp-java

2003-04-04 Thread Arnaud Vandyck
I am not a Debian Developer yet but I did package gnujaxp, a free
implementation of the jaxp api with a SAX2 and DOM Level2 free
implementation.

The announce of the package as already be done[1] on debian-java and
Mark Howard made some remarks[2]. Everything has been corrected[3] and
the package is lintian clean.

Here are some informations about the packge:

Package name: libgnujaxp-java
Version: 0.0.cvs20030330
License: GPL
Upstream: http://www.gnu.org/software/classpathx/jaxp/jaxp.html

Description: GNUJAXP includes interfaces and implementations for basic
XML processing in Java, and some general purpose SAX2 utilities.
 .
The standard distribution includes "gnujaxp.jar", javadoc, and full
source code. The current software is available at:
 .
 http://www.gnu.org/software/classpathx/jaxp
 .
 This is intended only to require JDK 1.1 support to compile or run;
that may change at some point, but for now portability to PJava and
other widely used Java configurations/profiles is important.

I also made a libgnujaxp-java-doc package with the javadoc.

You can add these lines in your sources.list:

 deb http://vbstefi60.fapse.ulg.ac.be/~arnaud/debian/ ./
 deb-src http://vbstefi60.fapse.ulg.ac.be/~arnaud/debian/ ./

Many thanks for your attention.

What are the errors? (You can maybe move this discussion on debian-java)

classpath has some java.awt classes and there is a jikes-classpath
package.

So, why not compile it with j2sdk-1.4 (there is a Debian package from
Blackdown[1]) and put your package in contrib?

This is a solution but I think if you can not build it in Debian, there
are few chances to get it run in Debian! :-(

http://classpath.org [2] The package is in Debian and there are some
wrapper for VM and compilers[3].

Hi everybody,

I'm looking for a sponsor to upload new upstream and some rework of
libxt-java.

More information (and apt-get'able):
http://vbstefi60.fapse.ulg.ac.be/~arnaud/debian/

libxt-java (0.20020426a-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * New maintainer, closes: #200457
  * New upstream release, closes: #145444
  * Upstream has been reorganized, debian/rules hase been reworked to
  * fit
the changes
  * Changed the dependency from libcrimson-java to libgnujaxp-java
  * Changed section devel to libs which is IMHO more appropriated
  * Moved back to main because libservlet2.2-java is now in main
  * libservlet2-*-java is needed to build but only suggested to run
  * (only
two classes need the library in a web context)
  * Added the new upstream author Bill Lindsey <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> in
debian/copyright, also changed the download location

Hi all,

I'm still looking for a sponsor for libxt-java. I did found one but
forgot who (sorry), but he doesnt like to upload a package I'm not yet
the maintainer. I can send a signed mail of Ola ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) who says he
has not the time to review and upload the package _and_ does not want to
maintain the package anymore.

Many thanks for your time and help,

Hi

You can forward this (signed message) to the sponsor you found.

I do not want to keep this package so please upload the package
from Arnaud Vandyck. After checking some of course. :)

Regards,

// Ola
