Yep, loading pcmcia first.  Can get the pcmcia modem to work fine, but
not the card.  I think I'm going to try potato(e) with the later
version of cardmgr and see if that does the trick.  The card is listed
as supported on the pcmcia web site, but of course I didn't check
versions. (doh!)

Xircom Ethernet/Modem problem

I have a Dell Lattitude CP with a Xircom 33k6 Eth/modem combo. I installed
slink with no problems. The card is recognised and configured properly and
the ethernet device works.
Problem is the modem. I can see no errors in the syslog file (attached), but
sending ATZ to the modem has no effect.
I read some HOWTO's and README files, but have not found the problem or the
solution.

Does this ring a bell to you, or have you got any suggestions where to look?
please tell me!

Yes, finally!! After so long time I finally saw X on my screen!
Still X doesn't look very nice. Fonts too big to have a program on the screen,
and low resolution. I guess to configure this must be easy compare
with the installation.

Where in X you can see and change the settings of the display?

After much struggle I finally got X running. Wow it feels great!
Still the display is not so good, but at least X is starting now.

I have the Debian 2.1 "Slink" CD's. And I saw that I had XF86_VGA
and not SVGA.
So I got the SVGA from netgod and then X worked.

The Debian 2.1 CD's I have, contain the older version of all those files.
That is 3.3.2.3a-11
Also in the debian.org web pages I found only the old versions.
But the http://www.netgod.net/x pages you pointed have all
the latest versions of those files.
That is 3.3.3.1-2

Hibernation

I have an IBM 365XD running 2.2.1 kernel.   I have recompiled the kernel to
support APM.  I have been reading several websites that state that in order
to use the hibernation feature on my laptop I have to create a dos
partition on which a hibernation file can be saved.   Unfortunately, I have
all of my hard drive space used for my linux and swap partitions.  Is there
a simple way to add a new partition so I can use the hibernation feature on
my laptop?  Or does anyone know of another way which can be used to invoke
hibernation using my current setup? (ie without having to repartition my
HD).  I hope that someone can offer some insight.

It's a patch to allow hibernation to your swap.

I have the same card, upgrade your kernel to >= 2.2.13.
It fixed my problem.
