Yep, loading pcmcia first. Can get the pcmcia modem to work fine, but not the card. I think I'm going to try potato(e) with the later version of cardmgr and see if that does the trick. The card is listed as supported on the pcmcia web site, but of course I didn't check versions. (doh!) thanks.
