Bug#610063: RFP: cran2deb -- Automate conversion of CRAN R packages into Debian packages

2011-01-15 Thread Kingsley G. Morse Jr.
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

Debian packages of CRAN packages of R code offer
at least two advantages: better dependencies and
updates.

Please package the cran2deb scripts at

https://r-forge.r-project.org/projects/cran2deb/

It seems to me that this might make it easier for
Debian users to upgrade Debian's R CRAN packages
ourselves, instead of bugging you.

Thanks,
Kingsley

* Package name: cran2deb
  Version : 4 beta
  Upstream Author : Dirk Eddelbuettel
* URL : https://r-forge.r-project.org/projects/cran2deb/
* License : GPL
  Programming Lang: shell
Description : Automate conversion of CRAN R packages into Debian packages

cran2deb automatically converts CRAN packages for
R into Debian packages, handling dependency
matching and package updates nicely

You know, it's not really your call to decide... I will leave the bug
open, but it's unlikely that anybody will act on it.

The benefit is minimal and not worth having a QA-specific Apache
configuration, and IMO it's not worth asking the system administrators to
implement it.

I'm sure you can find some more productive ways to improve Debian.

Cheers,

Bug#610069: Leaked file descriptor 57 history.log

2011-01-15 Thread Anthony DeRobertis
Package: apt
Version: 0.8.10
Severity: minor
File: /usr/bin/apt-get

Saw this message while doing an upgrade in aptitude. This is while
generating grub.cfg, but it seems likely that apt itself is responsible
for /var/log/apt/history.log:

   Found initrd image: /boot/initrd.img-2.6.32-5-amd64
File descriptor 57 (/var/log/apt/history.log) leaked on lvs invocation.
Parent PID 16689: /bin/sh

A missing O_CLOEXEC or FD_CLOEXEC somewhere?

What is the exact warning?

Thank you. Are you still able to reproduce this problem? If so,
could you send a postscript document that fails, for example by asking
firefox to "print to file"?

That does sound helpful, but it looks like it has been taken down.

Bug#610070: lxde: Problem with mime type associations.

2011-01-15 Thread Klaus Ade Johnstad
Package: lxde
Version: 0.5.0-4
Severity: normal

When I click to open a file either on the Desktop, or in pcmanfm, all that
happens is that I'm being asked "What application do you want to use to open
this file: OpenDocument-text" (this is my free translation from Danish).
The problem is with all kind of files I have tried, pdf, odt, ods, odp, doc...

Kde4 is also installed on the machine, and there it's no problem.

I'm looking at deploying this to a few thousand users, and this is a
showstopper.

Bug#610071: grub-pc postinst loops when running non-interactive with multiple devices

2011-01-15 Thread Arne Nordmark
Package: grub-pc
Version: 1.98+20100804-13
Severity: normal

Because of #601141,
grub-pc postinst will always ask for devices to install, when
installed on multiple devices. When doing non-intercative parallel
upgrades (in my case using pdsh), this casuses the upgrade process to
stop at that point. However, when the connection is broken, the
postinst goes into an infinite loop instead of terminating. Example:
init(1)-+-aptitude(19983)-+-dpkg(20327)---frontend(25206)---grub-pc.postins(25226)---grub-pc.postins(10661)-+-grub-pc.postins(10662+
| |
`-sort(10663)
| `-{aptitude}(19984)

The top level grub-pc,postinst repeatedly forks new processes, leading
to high load and a need to manually clean these processes on every
computer.

Chasing down links leads to [1]:

--- Comment #14 From Alex Cherepanov 2006-06-04 15:59:12 ---
The patch (and analysis) is incorrect. Some printers don't
support setting the page using numeric values but a small set of
special purpose operators. The table look-up checks whether
there is a predefined page size operatot to set this page size.
When there is no such operator, "null" indicates that the page
size should be set using numeric method.

The patch makes Ghostscript ignore the page size of the document
and use US Letter size for any non-standard document. This is
clearly wrong.

Probably, most users would prefer to fit non-standard pages to
the paper size. However, for the printers with expensive media,
a PostScript error is preferable.

Do you agree with this analysis? Are you sure it is the same bug?

Aside from that, I'd also be interested in whether the same problem
appears with current ghostscript-x. (I am able to open PDFs with "gs
-dSAFER" on version 9.00~dfsg-2, at least).

Thanks for the report,
Jonathan

but it can't hurt to check.) Thanks to both of you for reporting.

Thanks for working on this. As it looks like, libgpg-error0 and libgcrypt11 from
experimental have been moved to /lib (*) in the mean time.
Do you have an ETA for an libcryptsetup upload?
Tollef wants to upload systemd v16 soonish with cryptsetup support enabled, so
having an updated libcryptsetup would be great.

Cheers,
Michael

Bug#610072: cowpoke: Use rsync instead of scp

2011-01-15 Thread Joachim Breitner
Package: devscripts
Version: 2.10.70
Severity: wishlist
File: /usr/bin/cowpoke

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hi,

cowpoke keeps re-transmitting the same .orig.tar.gz file. The attached
patch uses rsync instead of scp to avoid that.

It does add another dependency for both sides of the connection, but I
guess if you are root and can install cowbuilder, then you can also
install rsync.

Thanks,
Joachim

Please unblock package nss

I know this is probably not the right time for this, and I apologize, but I
only started actively backporting my packages recently. This new version
contains a small change to make backports for lenny not require any change
besides a new changelog entry. As I do expect nss updates to squeeze that
would also need to be pushed to lenny-backports, it will make my work easier.

Thanks.

Bug#610077: elmerfem: Broken encoding in Czech debconf translation

2011-01-15 Thread Christian Perrier
Package: elmerfem
Version: 5.5.0.svn.4897.dfsg-1
Severity: normal
Tags: l10n patch

The encoding of the Czech debconf translation is broken (that's a
consequence of a bug in mutt).

Attached is a fixed file.

If I see this correctly, then _UA64 is the same then _64 except for the
alignment requirements; similar to _UA32 and _32. So this should be
fixed by the following patch.

Bug#610078: mini-buildd: diff for NMU version 0.8.15+nmu1

2011-01-15 Thread Christian PERRIER
Package: mini-buildd
Version: 0.8.15
Severity: normal
Tags: patch pending

Dear maintainer,

I've prepared and uploaded and NMU for mini-buildd (versioned as 0.8.15+nmu1).
The diff
is attached to this message.

This fixes a broken enconding in a debconf translation. See
https://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2011/01/msg00288.html for details.

This was uploaded to testing-proposed-updates but I suggest applying
this to unstable, too. In case you have trouble with the diff, I also
attach the full fixed PO file.

Regards.

Bug#610079: Hurd: please backport upstream r2888 (fix part of archive writing)

2011-01-15 Thread Pino Toscano
Package: libarchive
Version: 2.8.4-1
Severity: normal
User: debian-h...@lists.debian.org
Usertags: hurd

Hi,

the backported patch 0002-Patch-from-upstream-revision-1991.patch causes some
issues on Hurd because of an initialized variable.
I reported it upstream[1] and this was fixed today in trunk as r2888;
could you please backport this change to the Debian packaging?

So it does. [1]

For curiosity's sake, what version of xv do you have? It seems it was
removed from the archive after 3.10a-26 or so but snapshot.debian.org
only has 3.10a-20.

gs experts: is this an error in usage or is something terribly wrong?
Even in the former case the error message could be improved.

Thanks for a clear report.

Bug#601030: 6tunnel: Can't resolve IPv4 target host

2011-01-15 Thread Jari Aalto

Hi Roland,

Adam reported in message:

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=601030#57

That there seesm to be a problem with ipv4 support. The version in Lenny
 (lenny/6tunnel-0.11rc2-2) seems to work ok.

The only difference that I can see is the inclusion of your ipv6 patch in
recent release. Could you take a look at it and see if there is anything
that got mixed up with the ipv4.

Adam,

Could you confirm that the patch is indeed the problem:

dget -x
http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian/pool/main/6/6tunnel/6tunnel_0.11rc2-5.dsc
cd 6tunnel-0.11rc2
sed --in-place '3d' debian/patches/series

apt-get -t unstable build-dep 6tunnel
debuild -uc -uc
dpkg -i ../6tunnel_0.11rc2-5*.deb

...and test as you did

Thanks,
Jari

Bug#610081: pulseaudio: Pulseadio not working well with audigy 2 value 7.1 sound card

2011-01-15 Thread michael
Package: pulseaudio
Version: 0.9.21-3+b1
Severity: important

My Audigy2 value 7.1 card works fine with the alsa driver and apps (such as
vlc) and vlc is able to do 7.1 sound.

However, Pulseaudio claims to see my Audigy2 value card and the mixer shows all
the channels but I only get front-right and front-left through my front-center
speaker when I run the command:
speaker-test -c 8 -t wav

On the Gnome Sound Preferences application on the Hardware tab I've got it set
to Analog Suround 7.1 Output + Analog Stereo Input (I've tried many other sound
profiles but output is always the same). On the Output tab my output device
selected (my only choice) is: SB400 Audigy2 Value Analog Surround 7.1

My gigabyte motherboard has an Nvidia sound chip but it only worked in stereo
in alsa (eventhough it's a 7.1 chip) so I disabled it in the BIOS although
lspci seems to find it anyway.

Dear all,

I support Joey's comment and propose to simply remove the requirement from the
Policy. I do not think that people will remove the information from
debian/copyright without having a Homepage field if they do not have one, so I
propose to keep thinks short and to not cross-reference nor replace with
incitations.

Note that I also proposed the deletion of the second part of the paragraph
below in #593533.

Cheers,

I'm using squeeze, everything up to date.

Bug#610086: Do not use --allow-unauthenticated to fetch packages

2011-01-15 Thread Thijs Kinkhorst
Package: ia32-libs
Version: 20110115
Severity: important
Tags: security patch

Hi,

The fetch-and-build script uses --allow-unauthenticated to download the
packages to include in the build. This is quite undesirable because
essentially this unnecessarily breaks the trust chain for the hundreds
of megabytes of package data that are used to build this package.

Please include attached patch which resolves that by bootstrapping the
APT trustdb with the keys installed on the local system.

Cheers,
Thijs

Right, this seems to have a simple fix:

aptitude install desktop-file-utils

Description : Open source clone of Theme Hospital

This project aims to reimplement the game engine of Theme Hospital, and be able
to load the original game data files. This means that you will need a
purchased copy of Theme Hospital, or a copy of the demo, in order to use
CorsixTH. After most of the original engine has been reimplemented in open
source code, the project will serve as a base from which extensions
and improvements to the original game can be made.

You have virtualbox module loaded. We can't and won't support this.
Please disable and test again.

If it still happens then: does it also happen with the 2.6.37 from
experimental?

Bug#609916: ledcontrol broke my laptop keyboard

2011-01-15 Thread Ola Lundqvist
severity 609916 important
thanks

Hi Ian

I agree with you that it may not be the best thing to change the
leds on the system. However I do not agree with you that a software
component should never change anything by mearly being installed.

If you follow that reasoning (for example) apache should never open
any network ports by default.

ledcontrol contains a daemon process to manage the leds. The default
is to start the daemon.

>From the documentation:

leddThe LED daemon. ledd must be running when the other programs
are used. On startup, it executes programs and/or scripts to
tell it how to set the LEDs. It is configured in ledd.conf.

What we can do to solve this issue is to change the default for ledd
so that it do not start by default. Most people do however expect daemons
to be started when installed.

The reason for your serious problem is obviously because you have a
broken keyboard. I do not expect normal software components to be able
to handle broken hardware.

I'm not sure this should be fixed, but I'm open for discussion. However
serious is a bit hard as it would remove the package from next release
and this have been the case for all releases with ledcontrol as far as
I can tell. So it is not a new problem.

Due to this reasoning I'm lowering the severity of this bug with a hope
that we can discuss it.

Best regards,

// Ola

PS. The package is up for adoption. Anyone is free to take the package
over, and if that person have a different opinion I will not object.
DS.

Bug#609897: mysql-server-core-5.1: Same problem on a different machine: outdated init.d/mysql after aptitude full-upgragde

2011-01-15 Thread r.ductor
Package: mysql-server-core-5.1
Version: 5.1.49-3
Severity: normal

Hi, today I made an aptitude full-upgrade with no warnings on a different
machine
which had the mysql failure message problem.
I do not explicitly use mysql on this machine, only automatic stuff is
installed,
nameley mysql-server-core-5.1 but not mysql-server-5.1.
The upgrade reported no warnings about mysql, but the file /etc/init.d/mysql
has not been upgraded.
Nonetheless to say I do not remember having modified the init.d/mysql file.
(I attach a copy of the current one.)

so exactly the same problem on a second machine. (More on this later, from
my third machine.)

Hi Julien!

Now that roundcube 0.5-1 has been pushed to mirrors, I will try to
implement this roundcube-plugins package.

Third party plugins can be installed in /var/lib/roundcube/plugins in
the same way that skins can be installed in /var/lib/roundcube/skins.

Indeed, good catch :-)
That makes things different, I'll look into this, thanks.

If I see this correctly, then _UA64 is the same then _64 except for the
alignment requirements; similar to _UA32 and _32. So this should be

Bug#306106: What is the problem with adjtimex patch?

2011-01-15 Thread Vincent Bernat
Hi!

Bug #593429 does not explain very well why the severity is serious. From
my understanding, the reason is just bug #306106. Why not just set the
severity of bug #306106 to serious?

Bug #593429 was created on August 2010. Last update of bug #306106 is
September 2007. It contains an URL to a patch. The patch seems to be
available here:

http://dtucker.freeshell.org/openntpd/patches/openntpd-3.6.1p1-linux-adjtimex.patch

There is no explanation on why this patch does not solve #306106. It
does not apply cleanly to current openntpd 3.9p1. Maybe there is some
updated version?

openntpd is working fine for me. Does #306106 still applies to current
openntpd versions? Can we tell in what conditions it is not able to
synchronize correctly? If those conditions are pretty rare, maybe the
severity could be important instead of serious. I personnaly prefer to
use openntpd instead of ntpd because of its security record (no security
hole according to Debian security tracker vs 6 security holes in ntpd)
and its cleaner and simple design.

Bug#610101: powertop fails with segmentation fault on newer kernels with large config files

2011-01-15 Thread Mel Gorman
Package: powertop
Version: 1.11-1
Severity: important
Tags: patch

On newer kernels with large config files, powertop fails with a segmentation
fault. For example, this occurs when kernel 2.6.37 is installed for x86-64
using the debian kernel 2.6.32 config file as a starting point. This issue is
sortof fixed in the upstream version 1.13 of powertop 1.13 by increasing the
maximum size of the config file that can be handled and checking the buffer
lengths. Presumably it is too close to release to upgrade a major version so a
patch is attached that will act as a stopgap.

Subject: [PATCH] Avoid segfaults due to buffer overruns while reading the
kernel config file

On newer kernels, powertop segfaults when reading the config file. The
problem is that the config is longer than expected and it overruns the
buffer (distressing as this runs as root). Upstream in 1.13, this is
fixed by increasing the maximum size of the config file to 1 and
checks the buffer is not being overrun. This is what this patch does
as a stopgap measure until the package is synchronised with the
upstream version.

It seems to me that it will be a bit hard to collect all the model numbers.
Since AFAIUI the models affected are the same that use eeepc-wmi,
wouldn't it be possible to use the same method as the module to detect
if the quirk is needed?

Bug#587014: screen brightness can't be modified on some Panasonic laptops

2011-01-15 Thread Axel G. Rossberg
A solution for this problem that works for me (ubuntu 10.10,
2.6.35-24 kernel) is described here
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1612560

In a nutshell, add the boot option "acpi_osi=" to grub, by executing

$ gksudo gedit /etc/default/grub

(which calls an editor) to replace in the file /etc/default/grub the line

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash"

with

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash acpi_osi="

Then execute

$ sudo update-grub

and reboot. Backlight-changing should now work seamlessly.

Bug#610102: [decibel-audio-player] Don't spawn multiple instances from the .desktop file

2011-01-15 Thread Adrien Clerc

Package: decibel-audio-player
Version: 1.04-1
Severity: normal

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---
Hi !
I'm looking for a simple audio player, and Decibel hit the top of the list.
However, to be fully usable, I need a slight modification in the
package. When I select multiple audio files in Thunar and click "Play
with Decibel", multiple instances are spawn. This is due to a lacking
argument in the Exec entry in the desktop file. In fact, the Freedesktop
specifications
(http://standards.freedesktop.org/desktop-entry-spec/latest/ar01s06.html) mentions
that with %f, the system should assume that the application can't manage
multiple files on its command line, and should run multiple instances,
whereas with %F, all files can be pushed to the same single instance.
In the provided desktop file, no argument is set, and I'm guessing
that's the reason why Thunar launch multiple players. Could you please
modify the Exec entry so that it has a trailing "%F"?

Thanks a lot!

Bug#607879: System hangs up with mmap.c:873!

2011-01-15 Thread Ronny Standtke
I contacted the Debian Live maintainers about this bug, who in turn asked me
to contact upstream. The aufs developers stated that the aufs version in
Debian Live is too old and obsoleted and should be updated, see here:

https://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/message.php?msg_id=26901616

I informed the Debian Live maintainers about that, who in turn again pointed
to the Debian kernel team, see here:

http://lists.debian.org/debian-live/2011/01/msg00100.html

This pushing around gets somewhat exhausting. I would be pleased if all
involved parties (Debian kernel team, Debian Live maintainers, aufs
developers) could cooperate in fixing this bug instead of working against or
ignoring each other.

Thanks a lot

Ronny

Bug#602207: backported upstream fix

2011-01-15 Thread Bjørn Mork
Although this is far too late for the squeeze release, I assume that
fixing this bug in a later point release might be of interest. The
upstream fix does not apply cleanly to 2.13.0 so I have backported it.
Backport patch is attached.

The second patch is a straight cherry-pick of 537fa55e. This is
necessary to avoid introducing a regression. I've not combined the
patches to keep as much as possible of upstream history.

I have succcessfully tested and verified this fix on top of the Debian
package version 2:2.13.0-5. Please consider it for squeeze.1

The way ucarp is integrated with Debian e/n/i infrastructure does
not support having multiple VIPs per interface.

This is supported by ucarp, and is also supported by networking
scripts of other distributions (e.g. CentOS).

Bug#610111: /sbin/ip6tables: Man-page-error: icmp-port-unreachable has to be icmp6-port-unreachable

2011-01-15 Thread Daniel 'DaB.' Baur
Package: iptables
Version: 1.4.2-6
Severity: normal
File: /sbin/ip6tables

Hello,
the man-page of ip6tables says at TARGET EXTENSIONS/REJECT/--reject-with that
icmp-port-unreachable is a valid option. But ip6tables thinks otherwise:

hobbes:~# ip6tables -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 9898 -j REJECT --reject-with
icmp-port-unreachable
ip6tables v1.4.2: unknown reject type `icmp-port-unreachable'
Try `ip6tables -h' or 'ip6tables --help' for more information.

icmp6-port-unreachable seems to work:

hobbes:~# ip6tables -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 9898 -j REJECT --reject-with
icmp6-port-unreachable
hobbes:~#

So I guess the man-page needs a correction.

Sincerly,
DaB.

Doesn't help when done exactly as you say, but "git bisect" points at
commit c3decac6 which seems to enable that patch.

It's way, way, *way* too late for squeeze. And squeeze+1 will ship with
0.2.2.x or later anyway.

Looks like getaddrinfo() only works when we specify a host name for the
remote host (then it works for me). I can reproduce the problem when I
use an IPv4 address for the remote host.

Bug#610116: grub incorrectly installed when specifying empty grub-installer/bootdev

2011-01-15 Thread Mathieu Parent
Package: installation-reports
Severity: important
Tags: d-i

Hello,

While installing Debian using d-i 6.0rc1, on the "grub-installer/bootdev", I
answered by an empty value. The installation seems to go well but in fact grub
was not installed on any disk or partition. And so the reboot failed with a
blinking underscore.

I solved this issue by booting the CD in recovery mode and running "grub-
install /dev/sda". This is not an easy fix for a newbie, and I suggest to
forbid empty value for this question.

Regards

Mathieu

Bug#610117: nslcd: Avoid loosing previous configuration values by nslcd debconf: authentication scenarios are handled in postint

2011-01-15 Thread Daniel Dehennin
Package: nslcd
Version: 0.8.0
Severity: wishlist

Here are some change to the nslcd debconf to avoid loosing the previous
configuration on dpkg-reconfigure.

Any change to the configuration file prevails on debconf, this permit to
avoid "clearing settings to pick up valus from configfile".

Here is my changelog:

* debian/nslcd.config: Do not reset all debconf values when the
  configuration file exists.
Deduce authentication type only if not defined.
Keep all authentication values in debconf, postinst handle them.
(read_config): Overwrite debconf value whent it differs from
  configuration file.
  (parsesys): Remove useless statements.

* debian/nslcd.postinst: Handle all the authentication scenarios.
(cfg_disable): Can take more than one paremeter.

Tested on my system:
- install with priority high
- reconfigure with priority low -> SASL -> DIGEST-MD5
- reconfigure with priority low -> no authentication -> disable all SASL options
- reconfigure with priority low -> SASL -> all SASL options are predefined
  as in first reconfigure
- edit /etc/nslcd.conf -> sasl_mech GSSAPI
- reconfigure with priority low -> SASL is preselected -> GSSAPI is preselected

Regards.

Bug#610118: swapper: page allocation failure. order:0, mode:0x4020

2011-01-15 Thread Josip Rodin
Package: linux-image-2.6.32-5-xen-amd64
Version: 2.6.32-23~bpo50+1

Hi,

Something like this was mentioned misplaced in #592497, and about a
different network driver, so I'm filing a new bug because it should
be unrelated to both issues over there :)

I've just seen something similar with a tg3, randomly during normal
operation (after >100 days of uptime), but also on a Xen dom0.
Nothing very bad seems to have happened, the domUs haven't complained
at all, but it's suspicious.

Bug#610119: wesnoth: ibus doesn't work

2011-01-15 Thread Andrey Paramonov
Package: wesnoth
Version: 1:1.8.5-1
Severity: normal

Hello!

I use ibus (http://code.google.com/p/ibus/) to input Cyrillic
characters. It works for most apps I use, i.e. all GTK2 apps, XTerm. It
doesn't work in Wesnoth however.

It would be great if Wesnoth supported ibus.

My ibus version is 1.3.8-1.

I'm ready to provide additional info,
Andrey Paramonov

Look at the "hints": 6tunnel is supposed to create tunnels IPv6->IPv4 or
IPv4->IPv6. Not IPv4->IPv4. (Which would be nice, though, but not the
original intention.)

If you're so concerned you would probably tell us what you try to
achieve that. As far as I'm concerned there's no problem here.

Check the subject of this bug, there's nothing to fix in the first
place.

You don't need permission to upload RC bug fixes to unstable,
particularly when there's no other changes include (i.e. yes, please
upload).

Bug#610121: no write access to /var/games/lmarbles/lmarbles.prfs

2011-01-15 Thread Nirgal Vourgère
Subject: no write access to /var/games/lmarbles/lmarbles.prfs
Package: lmarbles
Version: 1.0.7-1
Severity: important
Tags: patch

When running the game, you get that warning in the console:
WARNING: no write access to /var/games/lmarbles/lmarbles.prfs

It's a major pain because you have to start the game from scratch every time
you start playing, which really is not very fun after a while.

I notice the game has this postinst:
chown root:games /var/games/lmarbles/
chown root:games /var/games/lmarbles/lmarbles.prfs
chmod 775 /var/games/lmarbles
chmod 664 /var/games/lmarbles/lmarbles.prfs
But I'm not in the games group.
I don't believe it was intended to have regular users in the system be member
of games, since they can play anyways, they just can't save their preferences.

So postinst should probably also do:
chown :games /usr/games/lmarbles
chmod g+s /usr/games/lmarbles

I bet this is acceptable http://release.debian.org/squeeze/rc_policy.txt (5-n)

Hi LaMont,

for your convenience I've prepared a patch (attached) implementing
Adam's suggestion and verified that it works for both
arch-dep-binary-only and full builds.

(Since the bug was reopened only yesterday, I'm not uploading an NMU
right away.)

(Probably dh_installdebconf in binary-indep is not needed at all, but
it also doesn't hurt to keep it.)

Cheers,
gregor

Bug#610122: xjig: timer goes on after completing, finally causes beeps every 1s

2011-01-15 Thread Yann Dirson
Package: xjig
Version: 2.4-13+b1
Severity: normal

Once the puzzle has been completed, the title seems to be frozen
displaying how much time was spent to complete it.

Now if one keeps xjig open for several days (waiting for the right
moment for "look ma, I did it in 2 minutes!" ;), we get beeps every
second. They can be silenced by killing xjig, but hey... it's not the
1st time it occurs, and I don't want to wait till some guest sleeping
not far from the running computer gets awaken at night, you guess :)

This seems to happen after something like 8 days uptime (as seen by
"ps -o pid, etime $(pidof xjig)". What can be seen then is that the
title gets updated again, with times like "16132:24" and growing.

Attaching strace to a finished xjig in the case of not-yet-beeping
process, getting the following is already strange, although that may
still be normal (fd 3 seems to be the X socket):

Process 8527 attached - interrupt to quit
select(4, [3], NULL, NULL, {0, 198500}) = 0 (Timeout)
read(3, 0x16aa714, 4096)= -1 EAGAIN (Resource temporarily
unavailable)
select(4, [3], NULL, NULL, {0, 999402}) = 0 (Timeout)
read(3, 0x16aa714, 4096)= -1 EAGAIN (Resource temporarily
unavailable)
select(4, [3], NULL, NULL, {0, 998770}^C
Process 8527 detached

Then those which started to beep rather exhibit the following, which
may just reflect the titlebar updates:

Process 9216 attached - interrupt to quit
select(4, [3], NULL, NULL, {0, 110413}) = 0 (Timeout)
