Bug#603013: alacarte: spurious dependency on gnome-menus

The problem is that in its current state, alacarte will only be able to
edit gnome-applications.menu and gnome-settings.menu - we patch it do
so, otherwise that would be applications.menu and settings.menu.

Upstream has introduced a XDG_MENU_PREFIX variable that partly fixes
that problem if the session manager sets it. I think it will be fixable
for wheezy, but it will require a few more changes to work without
regressions.

Cheers,

Bug#603015: xserver-xorg-video-intel: [G33] Crash (SEGV) when switching to 3D board in Fritz 12 under wine

2010-11-10 Thread François Guerraz

The bug is always reproductible : install Fritz 12 under Lenny's wine, then
launch the app and switch to 3D board. It is not supposed to work under wine
yet but it's not
supposed to make X crash.

Subject: Re: a workaround

After reading about the 100% cpu problem here:
https://launchpad.net/~fingerprint/+archive/fprint
I tried gksu-polkit_0.0.2+git20100909-0ppa1~lucid1_i386.deb
and libgksu-polkit0_0.0.2+git20100909-0ppa1~lucid1_i386.deb from here:
https://launchpad.net/~fingerprint/+archive/fprint/+packages

Now fprint works with su, sudo, xscreensaver, gdm login, and gksu-polkit
without spiking the cpu.

Hi,

I got the same issue with ca-certficates-java and pbuilder, but after
re-create base.tgz, it has gone away. Could you try to do that, please?

Just wild guess: broken tar utility (1.24-1) cause this problem

Bug#603033: iceweasel: Programmatically setting homepage

2010-11-10 Thread Roland Mas
Package: iceweasel
Version: 3.5.15-1
Severity: normal

I'm trying to set up a preconfigured virtual machine with a particular local
file as the browser's homepage. So I created a /etc/iceweasel/pref/local.js
with the following contents:

pref("browser.startup.homepage", "file:///root/Desktop/README.html");

When I run Iceweasel (for the first time), this setting does appear
in the "about:config" page, but the "Home" button still points at "about:".

Thanks,

Roland.

Bug#603034: qemu-kvm: unable to boot using virtio disk

2010-11-10 Thread Oluf Lorenzen
Package: qemu-kvm
Version: 0.12.5+dfsg-4
Severity: important

Hi,

I ran into a bug not allowing me to boot an VM if it uses virtio as HDD-type.
This is also described at [1] and [2]:

> When trying to boot from virtio disk, only an message:
> Boot failed: could not read the boot disk
> FATAL: No bootable device.
> is displayed.
>
> How reproducible:
> always

I used virt-manager, created a new VM, using debian-testing-amd64-netinst.iso
from 2010-11-01, choose Linux/Debian-Squeeze as OS, defaults for everyting else.

> Steps to Reproduce:
> 1. boot any machine with virtio drive as first HDD (or only one HDD)
>
> Actual results:
> Boot failed: could not read the boot disk
> FATAL: No bootable device.
>
> Expected results:
> booting my system
>
> Additional info:
> After change to model='ide' boot works again.
[...]

Then i had a look at the patch [3] and as far as i can see
it is not even added to debian-experimental (0.13.0+dfsg-1).

I hope i didnt overlook something, as this is my first bugreport here ;)

Regards,
Oluf

http://imgur.com/u5dLql&0aTCB?full

Here are the results of my experimentations on this machine:

- I changed grub's display mode, to see if the use of gfxterm was
the root cause of the problem. Setting "output_terminal text"
  does not solve the problem.
- I installed FreeBSD 8.1 (no problem encountered) to see if
FreeBSD's kernel was unable to use my graphic card properly, but
  the dispaly is fine.
- I tried to install using a serial console, but it failed (I can
get grub's I/O on the serial console, but not the install
  process). Is it feasible?
- I tried to cheat and boot FreeBSD's kernel as it is on my disk
to bypass the kernel used in mini.iso, but I get a kernel panic.

My guess is that kfreebsd's kernel in the install images differs from
upstream in such a way that it no longer supports my graphic card
properly. Graphics are provided by an onboard VIA chip, I'll provide
more information about it later.

Laurent.

It's just my hypothesis. We can use your patch first.

Because c-l-c repo code depends on cl-asdf 2:2.010-1, it's on mentors.

If you don't upload cl-asdf, please do a NMU. I'll merge your patch.

Good to hear. That was the main reason I noticed the missing functionality

Bug#603038: Horrible performance with Q35

2010-11-10 Thread Yuri D'Elia
Package: xserver-xorg-video-intel
Version: 2:2.13.901-2
Severity: important

Graphics performance with the Q35 chipset, at least on this machine, is simply
unacceptable.

I tried all versions of xserver-xorg-video-intel since the last 12 months, and
I recently tired to update to the experimental 2:2.13.901-2 version with even
worse results.

My problems are very similar to the issues reported in bug #498673:

- With 2:2.13.0-2 (unstable version), 3D GL acceleration is uneven, and
heavily affected by the system load. If a program averages 60fps, what I
experience is ~120fps for a 1/4 of a second and then a long and slow pause
which kills all X11 responsiveness. intel_gpu_top reports 90% being *idle*.
As reported in bug #498673:, IRQ usage seem to affect the performance.
Increasing a scene complexity increases the FPS and reduces the FPS swings
up to a point (overall the performance is still 10x worse than the windows
driver). 2D acceleration is slow (compared to the windows driver coming with
  XP), but with constant FPS.

- With 2:2.13.901-2 the situation is even worse: 2D acceleration is now also
affected. FPS swings are reduced (the frame rate seems more consistent), but
the system is almost unresponsive when running any GL application (you can
literally see blender repaiting itself for example).
Smooth-scrolling a window in firefox now brings down the system until all
repaint events are completed (taking ~5-7 seconds on a *blank* page).

Two years ago the performance with xserver-xorg-video-intel was *almost*
comparable to the windows driver.

You need to set browser.startup.homepage in
/usr/lib/iceweasel/browserconfig.properties, which would thus need to be

Bug#603037: luakit: proxy settings problem

2010-11-10 Thread Kapil Hari Paranjape
Package: luakit
Version: 2010.09.24+halloween-2
Severity: normal

Hello,

The config file "globals.lua" contains

-- Global variables for luakit
globals = {
homepage= "http://luakit.org/";,
 -- homepage= "http://github.com/mason-larobina/luakit";,
scroll_step = 40,
zoom_step   = 0.1,
max_cmd_history = 100,
max_srch_history= 100,
 -- http_proxy = "http://example.com:3128";,
download_dir= luakit.get_special_dir("DOWNLOAD") or
(os.getenv("HOME") .. "/downloads"),
default_window_size = "800x600",
}

However, setting the proxy variable by editing the string and
uncommenting the http_proxy setting does not actually make luakit use
a proxy. The actual proxy setting is done via the ":proxy" command
or by creating a file like "$HOME/.local/share/luakit/proxylist"
containing a line like "* my_proxy http://example.com:3128";

This may also be a bug in the program. The current version also
ignores the proxy environment variable so the bug could be elsewhere
than in the documentation!

Thanks and regards,

Kapil.

AFAIK it's NOT related to a missing /dev.

Monkey patching is a way to extend or modify the runtime code of a
program or library without altering the original source code.

Monkey::Patch provides lexical scope monkey-patching so that you can wrap
any other package's subroutine with your own code and still have access
to the original subroutine.

This modules is a required dependency for the latest webgui releases.

2010-11-10 Thread Evan Broder
Package: gstreamer0.10-plugins-base-apps
Version: 0.10.30.4-1
Severity: minor
Tags: patch

The gst-visualize-m.m script in gstreamer0.10-plugins-base-apps
imports Base::Filename at the top of the script, but then doesn't use
any functions from that module.

In Ubuntu we're attempting to clean up some of the dependencies of our
core desktop packages, and in particular we're looking at trying to
drop perl dependencies to perl-base dependencies when that's possible.

Since File::Basename is the only imported module not provided by
perl-base, dropping this import would allow
gstreamer0.10-plugins-base-apps' dependency to be demoted.

Attached is the patch that we applied in Ubuntu for this. I've also
forwarded the issue to the upstream GStreamer developers

Bug#580504: found solution

2010-11-10 Thread Eric Cornely
Under xfce i added and used xfce4-xkb-plugin and after that starting
xfce client. It used the correct keyboard mapping.

I read the synergy source code. As java developer it was not easy to
understand C++ but it seems that it depends on xkb settings to detect
keyboard settings and that plugin set what it's needed.

If somebody need to use synergy client i would say try setting xkb
settings and i you use xfce just adding xkb plugin works.

Bye and thank you

Thanks for the tip. I re-created base.tgz and that solved the issue.

Bug#603042: roarplaylistd: /tmp/.rpld may fail to materialize

2010-11-10 Thread Aaron M. Ucko
Package: roarplaylistd
Version: 0.1~rc2-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable (not straightforwardly installable)

A more or less fresh installation of roarplaylistd (upgraded from
0.1~rc1-1 but not yet actually touched) promptly bombs out after
printing a "warning"(?), such that the init script fails to find the
expected socket:

The hard-coded one-second delay isn't ideal either; I'd suggest giving
it more time or better yet arranging for the executable to set
appropriate ownership and permissions.

Could you please look into it?

Thanks!

This is interesting. I run a few dozens of virtual machines here,
all with virtio disk, and experiment alot with it too, but I never
had this problem, and don't know anyone had it in #kvm channel
either. Please provide complete kvm command line.

It does not matter at this point what did you install into the VM,
since it is the (virtual) bios which can't read the disk, before
the guest OS or boot sector had a chance to be loaded.

[]
> Then i had a look at the patch [3] and as far as i can see
> it is not even added to debian-experimental (0.13.0+dfsg-1).

If it were this issue (as in [3] or [1]), people will be
screaming now, since kvm is used a LOT to boot from virtio
disks, and the issue you mention really means that it never
works, since the "BIOS driver" for virtio disk is corrupt.

This particular problem has been fixed long time ago. The
patch you mentioned is not applicable neither to 0.12 nor
to 0.13 -- code has been fixed a bit differently. What
tells you it is not added to debian?

> I hope i didnt overlook something, as this is my first bugreport here ;)

Well, no problem so far, you're welcome :)

Bug#602471: pymca: package unusable

2010-11-10 Thread V. Armando Solé

Hi

On 08/11/2010 18:08, Teemu Ikonen wrote:

Hi,

Thanks for debugging this. I can reproduce the bug by starting pymca with

LANG=de_DE.UTF-8 pymca

Interestingly, instantiating QApplication class makes the scanf call
in the specfile module use the locale-based numeric format. See the
attached testcase.

The quick and dirty fix would be to add the line
export LC_NUMERIC=C
as a second or third line to /usr/bin/pymca

But, there is probably a smarter way to fix this.

I have made the specfile module insensitive to the LC_NUMERIC locale
when used in POSIX systems but I really do not know if that is better
than forcing myself the locale in PyMca just after instantiating
QApplication.

Building specfile with the SPECFILE_POSIX flag, uses an atof
replacement function that reads current LC_NUMERIC locale, changes it to
C, performs atof and restores the LC_NUMERIC locale. The problem is that
it can be made thousands of times when reading a file.

Building specfile with the PYMCA_POSIX flag, does the same thing but
outside the loop over all the lines of the file.

In my case, I have foreseen to use the PYMCA_POSIX flag when building
specfile within PyMca and SPECFILE_POSIX flag when building the specfile
module as an standalone. You can take a look at the main PyMca setup.py
file and at the ./specfile/setup.py file.

Please let me know if you consider that a cleaner solution.

Best regards,

Armando

glXSwapBuffers() doesn't require a current context. Our GLX
implementations traditionally broke in various ways in that case, but
AFAICT at least this particular crash might be fixed in newer versions
of the X server.

Bug#561963: ITP: hudson -- extensible continuous integration server

2010-11-10 Thread James Page
Hi Tim

After our discussion in September re packaging Hudson I ran a session at
the Ubuntu Developer Summit (see [0]) at the end of October to discuss
packaging of Hudson for Ubuntu. The session generated a-lot of interest
from development teams both within and outside of Ubuntu. Its already
being used informally in a number of projects and there is a-lot of
appetite to formalise this as part of the platform.

The output from the session was that we would package Hudson from source
during the Natty release cycle; the objective for this period is to
deliver a base Hudson package and associated dependencies with a small
sub-set of plugins (also packaged from source) through a Launchpad PPA.
I've been assigned this blueprint and I can see it taking up the
majority of my time for this release.

I want to make sure that the work that we are doing in Ubuntu can be fed
back into Debian; It would be good if we could collaborate appropriately
to ensure that this happens.

Regards

James

I tested with 6.0.472.63 from squeeze on i386: download time is indeed
displayed. So this seems to be a non-i386 issue at least, maybe it's
only 64bit systems affected...

Bug#603046: octave3.2: strchr triggers Octave:str-to-num

2010-11-10 Thread Kim Hansen
Package: octave3.2
Version: 3.2.4-8
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

strchr treats a string as a number implicitly:

k...@raph:~/orion/svn/raph1/octave$ octave
GNU Octave, version 3.2.4

octave:1> warning error Octave:str-to-num
octave:2> strchr("Octave is the best software","best")
error: implicit conversion from string to real N-d array
error: type conversion failed for binary operator `+'
error: evaluating argument list element number 1
error: invalid empty index list
error: called from:
error: /usr/share/octave/3.2.4/m/strings/strchr.m at line 37, column 16
octave:2>

I think it can be fixed by changing the the strchr function to:

function varargout = strchr (str, chars, varargin)
  if (nargin < 2 || ! ischar (str) || ! ischar (chars))
print_usage ();
  endif
  f = false (1, 256);
  f(uint8(chars) + 1) = true;
  varargout = cell (1, nargout);
  varargout{1} = [];
  [varargout{:}] = find (reshape (f(uint8(str) + 1), size (str)), varargin{:});
endfunction

I found this bug by doing this:
  warning error Octave:str-to-num
  oldpath = path;
  path(oldpath);
If the octave-octcdf package is installed this will fail.

Regards,
Kim Hansen

Unless you need the higher level stuff, use apt_inst.DebFile instead, as
it's easier to use.

The following patch should fix it and I pushed it to the repository as
revision number 464.

Bug#603048: rails: Gives dangerous advice regarding log permissions

2010-11-10 Thread Gunnar Wolf
Package: rails
Version: 2.3.5-1.1
Severity: serious
Tags: security patch
Justification: 4

When spawning a process on a Rails by any user that is not the logfile
owner, the following IMHO dangerous advice is given:

Rails Error: Unable to access log file. Please ensure that
/home/webapps/servicio.iiec/log/production.log exists and is chmod
0666. The log level has been raised to WARN and the output
directed to STDERR until the problem is fixed.

Asking the administrator to make the log files mode 0666 would make
them vulnerable to modification or erasure by any system user. Even
given that many of Rails' users are not Unix-savvy, this should
clearly be rephrased.

This message is generated by the initialize_logger function of
Rails::Initializer, in
/usr/share/rails-ruby1.8/railties/lib/initializer.rb

I suggest the following wording:

Bug#468668: Bug: #468668: Unable to start d-i after running win32-loader (empty GRUB)

2010-11-10 Thread Philippe Cloutier
Hi Didier,
thanks, I don't know why I didn't get Robert's reply. I didn't use
win32-loader after filing this report. I figure if this bug was so easy to
reproduce and persisted, someone else would have confirmed it. It might have
only happened when GRUB was not installed yet, but GRUB is already installed
on this PC so I can't test that quickly. I may test when I get a new PC,
perhaps in a couple of years :-)

Until then, if nobody else is experiencing, this is likely fixed.

Bug#561963: ITP: hudson -- extensible continuous integration server

Thanks; I would welcome this collaboration. As you know, the main
points to consider for getting this work into Debian will be:

 * suitability for main: all the jars need to be built from source,
and with suitable licensing.
 * suitability for the security team: embedded code copies are frowned
upon if they duplicate packages already in the archive
 * Debian's release cycle - new packages are no longer a problem,
although they might not be accepted quite as quickly until squeeze is
released. Updates to existing packages may have to wait if they are
new upstream versions.

Regards,

Tim

Well, i had a look at the files from the qemu-kvm-source-package
looking for optionrom/signrom.sh, and the lines 41/42 did not contain
the line from the patch.
I am not a programmer so i might be completely on the wrong path about this ;)

I'll try to work from this on, but I've 2 immediate questions.
What is /usr/bin/qemu-kvm ? Debian does not ship such binary,
neither in kvm nor in qemu-kvm nor in qemu packages. The
binary we ship is /usr/bin/kvm not /usr/bin/qemu-kvm.

So, this is using virtio and -boot c. qemu-kvm-0.12 isn't able
to boot from virtio disk this way, it needs ",boot=on" device
property instead of "-boot c". The ability to treat virtio
drives as ide ones when booting is concerned (i.e. in bios)
first appeared in 0.13 (counting only official releases).

So it appears libvirt calls it incorrectly. Libvirt is
too new? What are you using there - squeeze? sid?
What libvirt version?

Yes it does not contain that line, but the surrounding
lines are changed too.

Ok, I see, no problem.

Thanks!

Bug#603051: with some programs (e.g. gimp, claws-mail) fails with "/usr/lib/cups/filter/pdftoraster failed"

2010-11-10 Thread Aldo Maggi
Package: cups
Version: 1.4.4-3
Severity: important

this seems a regression, in fact cups was affected by this bug some years ago.

some months ago i've noticed that i had again this problem printing from gimp
but now claws-mail is affected as well
while i can print from chromium or geeqie or openoffice and by means of lpr (as
a matter of fact i've used lpr
as a workaround for printing from gimp, i.e. i save a .ps file which i print
with lpr).

my printer is an Epson Stylus D92

the above jobs are in a stopped status with "/usr/lib/cups/filter/pdftoraster

for 2 jobs i've followed the instructions of the debugger and as soos as
possible i will send the troubleshooting
files.

thank you for your attention

Hi Gregor, thanks for finding the error. It is fixed in this file

the file should be fine, it's a debian bug. If you get the file directly, the
problem should be gone. If not i'll send the file as .rar.

qint64 QAudioInputPrivate::read(char* data, qint64 len) in
qaudioinput_alsa_p.cpp ignores the len parameter, leading to a
potential buffer overflow in data.

Upstream bug:
http://bugreports.qt.nokia.com/browse/QTBUG-14549

Upstream commit:
http://qt.gitorious.org/+qt-developers/qt/staging/commit/e3f1268e63064a54215051cf91d5f6b8c8bd4f0f

http://qt.gitorious.org/+qt-developers/qt/staging/commit/e3f1268e63064a54215051cf91d5f6b8c8bd4f0f.patch

The patch is against 4.7.1 and doesn't apply cleanly against 4.6.3; I
tried to adapt it for 4.6.3 (attached), hope I got it right :)

  * Non-maintainer upload.
  * Fix making ALSA backend default (Closes: #592442).

This really fixes festival into working by default without having to run
the elderly esound daemon.

This is probably a problem in mod_gnutls. Maybe it does not take care
to remove itself from the mod_proxy backend connection. However, if
you have patched it, you may be out of luck.

Hi,

didn't work, I tried to start it manually:

Arm is a terminal controller for tor [1]. See its project page [2] and

official part of the tor project, and under the GPLv3. For more context from
people in the debian community please check with Erinn Clark and Peter

tarball) are available at:

This is a python project (cross platform) and the deb built without any
lintian issues. If something further is needed the please let me know.

Interesting, the file in the mail still has "??" instead of the
non-ASCII chars. I'm wondering which mail server/client causes the
problems.

But the version in the BTS at
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?msg=15;filename=da.po;att=1;bug=602447
has nice æ and ø etc., so I just take this one.

It seems that computer-janitor does not really work very
well in it's current state and removing it from squeeze
and updating unstable to a newer upstream version seems
easier than fixing the bugs in this older version.

So, please remove computer-janitor from squeeze.

3.0.6 will not be accepted for squeeze (too huge diff).
Could you provide the ressources, where the problem is discribed?

The best would be, to have the relevant patch for this problem between
3.0.5 <-> 3.0.6, then I may get it into squeeze.

btw:
IMHO glusterfs is bad for databases :P

Bug#603066: linux-kbuild-2.6.34: Please always upload linux-kbuild-NNN at the same time as linux-image-NNN

2010-11-10 Thread Stefan Monnier
Package: linux-kbuild-2.6.34
Version: 2.6.34-1~experimental.1
Severity: normal

linux-image-2.6.36 packges have been on experimental for a while now,
but there's still no trace of any accompagnying linux-kbuild.
This is apparently the usual way things work w.r.t experimental
kernel packages.
I think this makes those kernels significantly less useful. So I'm
urging the Debian kernel guys to try and arrange their workflow such
the linux-kbuild package is "automatically" always uploaded right
away as soon as the first linux-image is uploaded.

Of course, the only reason I ever need the linux-kbuild package is
for module-assistant, so another solution is to teach module-assistant
to work around the lack of linux-kbuild (maybe let it try to download
and use the linux-source-NNN package instead).

I made a new source package available here:
http://openvswitch.org/cgi-bin/gitweb.cgi?p=corekeeper;a=summary

I haven't changed the architecture yet, though, because I'm not quite
sure what to do. corekeeper is completely architecture independent
(it's only shell scripts) but it only works on Linux. I can't use "all"
as the architecture, because it only works on Linux, but "linux-any"
will cause the package to be needlessly rebuilt on each GNU/Linux
architecture. "linux-all" would seem to be what I want, but it isn't
valid. Should I just use "linux-any"?

Thanks,

Ben.

Bug#603067: fontforge: up and down arrows work strangely in TTF instructions editor

2010-11-10 Thread Євгеній Мещеряков
Package: fontforge
Version: 0.0.20100501-2
Severity: normal

Up and down arrows send cursor to the first line in TTF instructions
editor.

To reproduce:

1. Open some instructed TTF font (or source) like DejaVuSans.
2. Open instructions editor (Instructions->Edit Instructions, Edit)
3. Place cursor in the middle of the text and try to use up or down
arrows.

Expected result: cursor moves one line up or down.

What happens instead: cursor moves to the beginning of the text.

Bug#603034: qemu-kvm: unable to boot using virtio disk

2010-11-10 Thread Michael Tokarev
10.11.2010 20:14, Michael Tokarev wrote:

>> \
>> -device

I tested with 3 versions of libvirt - from squeeze, sid and
experimental (versions 0.8.3-3, 0.8.3-4 and 0.8.4-1). All
3 uses additional argument for the first -drive parameter,
which is "boot=on":

 ...
 -rtc base=utc -boot c \
 -drive file=/stage/w7.raw,if=none,id=drive-virtio-disk0,boot=on,format=raw \
 ^^^
 -device
virtio-blk-pci,bus=pci.0,addr=0x5,drive=drive-virtio-disk0,id=virtio-disk0
 ...

And in all cases the vm works just fine.

As far as qemu-kvm is concerned, it works as it should, according
to the implementation: in order to boot from a virtio disk, 0.12
needs "boot=on" argument for that disk, in case there are only
virtio disks available (without boot=on) and -boot c given, it
will display the message you encountered, telling you it can't
read from a disk - because there's no disks visible to the BIOS.

0.13 recognizes virtio disks, but this is because it uses different
bios and slightly different "controller". It was the same with
PC too: some SCSI controllers requires custom boot code (which
is provided by "boot=on") in order to become bootable, and by
default BIOS were able to boot only from IDE disks.

So we've two questions:

 1) what is your /usr/bin/qemu-kvm - it is not from qemu-kvm
   package for sure.

 2) what version of libvirt you're using and why it is not
   adding that "boot=on" parameter.

I'll close this bug in a few days unless you come with some
information about this.

Thanks!

/mjt

If so, then your problem mught more be an hardware problem. Any chance
you can boot from another CD reader? Or boot from a USB stick (see the

2010-11-10 Thread Serafeim Zanikolas
Package: release.debian.org
Severity: normal
User: release.debian@packages.debian.org
Usertags: unblock

Hi,

Please unblock package common-lisp-controller

common-lisp-controller (7.4+nmu1) unstable; urgency=high

  * Non-maintainer upload.
  * lisp-config.lisp is shipped as a conffile from 7.0 onwards, so when
upgrading from earlier versions we have to remove the old auto-generated
file, to avoid config file conflict (Closes: #601957). Setting urgency to
high for RC bug.

Thanks,
Serafeim

Bug#603068: tex-common,texlive-binaries: can't be installed together

2010-11-10 Thread Holger Levsen
Package: tex-common,texlive-binaries
Version: 2009-7
Severity: serious
User: debian...@lists.debian.org
Usertags: piuparts piuparts.d.o

Hi,

during a test with piuparts I noticed some packages fail to install if
tex-common and texlive-binaries are to be installed together. I dont fully
understand why this happens, but hope we can together figure out what
happens, and reassign this bug to the right package.

From the attached log of mftrace (scroll to the bottom...):

  Setting up tex-common (2.06) ...

Running mktexlsr. This may take some time... done.

Alone, both packages install fine:

At least the following packages are affected:

Description: Converts Metafont fonts into Type1 fonts
mftrace is a small Python program that lets you trace a TeX bitmap
font (a METAFONT font) into a PFA or PFB font (A PostScript Type1
 Scalable Font).
 .
Type1 fonts offer many advantages over bitmaps, as they allow
PostScript files to render correctly on printers with many resolutions.
Moreover, Ghostscript can generate much better PDF, if given scalable
 fonts.

Thanks! Looks like this has been there for a while, but it's a single
byte write past the end of the string right before exit, so the code must
have previously gotten lucky.

None of the data involved in building that string or buffer came from the
end user, so I don't think there's an exploitable security vulnerability
here, but I'll push an update into squeeze anyway since it's a one-line
fix.

Bug#603070: unblock: rssh/2.3.2-13

2010-11-10 Thread Russ Allbery
Package: release.debian.org
Severity: normal
User: release.debian@packages.debian.org
Usertags: unblock

Please unblock rssh 2.3.2-13, which fixes a memory allocation programming
error that leads to a one-byte buffer overflow. The overflow only
involves data coming from local configuration or static in the program and
therefore should not be exploitable, but since it's a one-line patch and
memory overwrites are scary, I'd like to get this fixed for squeeze.

Changelog:

  * When allocating the buffer to tell a locked-out user what commands are
supported, add an additional byte for the nul at the end of the
string. (Closes: #601145)

unblock rssh/2.3.2-13

I am CC:ing the bug report so that the mod_gnutls maintainer gets the

OK, I goofed up here - there was no sneak change; the change to
Should-Start in SVN -- adding nslcd -- never entered -115. nscd was
already present. My bad. (Not relevant to the issue, though)

Ah. This is a separate issue though, independent of nscd/nslcd. The
correct solution would be to have $named in Should-Start *in addition*
to those.

I think it's the other way around -- ns(l)cd require DNS first. nscld
has $named in Should-Start, so I believe it is fine the way it is.

I just added $named to cron's Should-Start in SVN.

  Programming Lang: Java
Description : A Java control to allow font selection.

A Java control to allow font selection. Provides a pane of controls

My motivation for packaging this is that it is a dependency of Gephi which
I intend to package eventually.

I cannot reproduce this in a sid chroot on i386.

Why 2.06? 2.07 was uploaded to sid in February, 2.08 in June.

I get:

Setting up tex-common (2.08) ...
[...]
Running mktexlsr. This may take some time... done.
texlive-base is not ready, delaying updmap-sys call
texlive-base is not ready, skipping fmtutil-sys --all call

This is the code in the postinst that generates the message:

 if dhit_libkpathsea_configured; then

# we also have to check that texlive-base is installed

echo "texlive-base is not ready, delaying updmap-sys

else
tempfile=$(mktemp -p /tmp updmap.)
printf "Running updmap-sys. This may take some time... "

On your system, dpkg-query says

No packages found matching texlive-base.

which should be on stderr which is supposed to be discarded (an if it
was on stdout, it would end up in the stat variable anyway).

I don't get it.

> At least the following packages are affected:

Irrespective of whether tex-common has a bug, all those packages are
probably buggy, since it seems they depend on texlive-binaries. This
package does not provide any functionality to outsiders. Only with
texlive-base can they expect anything usable.

Bug#602985:

2010-11-10 Thread Adnan Hodzic
Please disregard my earlier workaround, since it turns out that VLC
plays files from SMB just fine.

What I found out is that, this problem doesn't exist on shares that
are not password protected. These files will play just fine.

But what won't be played is shares that are password protected; even
though you mount them with proper password, this is when the mentioned
error will occur.

This may even be an Samba issue, since it turned out that VLC plays
"regular" SMB shares just fine.

Bug#603077: apache2-mpm-prefork: a2(en|dis)(mod|site) should advise the use of invoke-rc.d

2010-11-10 Thread David Prévot
Package: apache2-mpm-prefork
Version: 2.2.16-3
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

Hi,

Since invoke-rc.d is supposed to perform more tests than
/etc/init.d/apache2 itself, and sounds more Debian anyway, it would be
nice if a2(en|dis)(mod|site) advised its use.

Regards

David

Bug#603078: RFP: makepp -- Compatible but reliable and improved replacement for make

2010-11-10 Thread Jan Hudec
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: makepp
  Version : 1.50~beta20100422
  Upstream Author : Daniel Pfeiffer
* URL : http://makepp.sourceforge.net/,
http://search.cpan.org/~pfeiffer/makepp/
* License : GPL-2+|Artistic (same as Perl)
  Programming Lang: Perl
Description : Compatible but reliable and improved replacement for make

Makepp is a utility for controlling build of software and similar tasks
requiring solving dependencies between files. It is backward compatible
with GNU Make while providing useful extensions:

 * built in dependency tracker
 * detecting changes by checksums instead of relying purely on checksums
 * regenerating targets when the build command changes (e.g. different
   compiler options are used)
 * ability to track dependencies across multiple (e.g. subdirectory)
makefiles even when originally written for recursive make invocation
 * ability to separate build directory from source directory even if the
the rules are not prepared for it by utilizing symlinks
 * expands wildcards to list of buildable files, even if they don't
   exist yet
 * ordering output from build commands run in parallel
 * support for filenames with special characters
 * extensibility via perl code

Many of the features apply also to makefiles written for standard make
or a makefile can be written to use them that gracefuly degrade when
interpreted with other makes.

Bug#603079: trac-authopenid: fails to install

2010-11-10 Thread Holger Levsen
Package: trac-authopenid
Version: 0.2.4-1
Severity: serious
User: debian...@lists.debian.org
Usertags: piuparts piuparts.d.o

Hi,

during a test with piuparts I noticed your package failed to install. As per
definition of the release team this makes the package too buggy for a
release, thus the severity.

From the attached log (scroll to the bottom...):

  Setting up trac (0.11.7-3) ...
  cd: 21: can't cd to /usr/lib/python*/site-packages/trac/htdocs/js
  dpkg: error processing trac (--configure):
subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 2
  Setting up python-openid (2.2.4-1) ...
dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of piuparts-depends-dummy:
   piuparts-depends-dummy depends on trac (>= 0.11); however:
Package trac is not configured yet.
  dpkg: error processing piuparts-depends-dummy (--configure):
   dependency problems - leaving unconfigured
  Processing triggers for python-support ...
  Errors were encountered while processing:
   trac
   piuparts-depends-dummy
  E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

trac is fine (see http://piuparts.debian.org/squeeze/source/t/trac.html) thats
why I filed the bug against trac-authopenid.

cheers,
Holger
