I thought about this this week and I've come to agree with Joey's
position.

We could document exactly how to change the useragent for the user,
but why wouldn't they do this? From there perspective there are all
upsides and no downsides to making the useragent be Firefox, And if
everyone is going to mechanically change it (or want to change it),
then it's not really a good default.

While I agree that websites shouldn't be abusing useragent strings the
way they do, we can't win this fight on our own and in the mean time
our users are getting broken results that are in our power to fix.

Thoughts?

The only reverse dependency is Azureus, which I maintain, and it'll
need a trivial upload, but works fine.

I've certainly verified this in 2.6.26-rc6. The question is exactly
when the change came about.

Was that vanilla kernel 2.6.16? I'm tring to track the places where
varios system calls changed to HRTs.

Bug#487789: apt-cacher locks when using checksum and requiring it concurrently.

2008-06-24 Thread Raúl Sánchez Siles
Package: apt-cacher
Version: 1.6.4
Severity: important

 Hello:

  When I start 2 aptitude sessions: one for a real system and one for a
  chroot; and they concurrently run update and/or upgrade I got this message on
dmesg.
apt-cacher[8117]: segfault at 7f87f70b8e18 ip 7f87f7c37b56 sp 7fff05122448
error 6 in libdb-4.6.so[7f87f7b9d000+145000]

  This only happens if I enable checksum option in the apt-cacher
configuration.

  When this occurs, downloads eventually stops and those apt-cacher instances
hang so that only kill -9 can make them dissappear.

  I need to run apt-cacher-cleanup -r and then restart apt-cacher service to
go on.

  I started using apt-cacher from around 1.6.0, and I started trying
checksum from around 1.6.2.

Bug#487791: wishlist += libmpg123 plugin

2008-06-24 Thread Fabian Greffrath

package: gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly
severity: wishlist

Hello Sebastian,

now that mpg123 is considered free (#292260) and does provide a shared
library (#52020), it would be nice [tm] to have an MPG123 output
plugin in one of the GStreamer plugins packages as an alternative to
the libmad decoder. It's not that I consider the libmad decoder a bad
plugin, but it's always nice to have alternatives at hand... ;)

I have chosen the -ugly plugins package for this wishlist report,
since it already includes the libmad plugin (which does not make it
into -base or -good because of MPEG patent issues, I guess?).

Cheers,
Fabian

I agree - I wouldn't update this for Etch. You need to be a privileged
user already and denial of service isn't the worst class of problems. It
seems unlikely that privileged users would find it desirable to DoS their
RT, and if they would really want that, there's nothing stopping them now
e.g. by automatically making many requests or filing extreme number of
tickets.

This is one of those "cannot possibly happen" situations.

It's either an error in cruft's logic, or a serious error in how some
other package handles alternatives. I'll try to reproduce this, but I
may have to ask you for more information. First thing: are you using

The udev rules (69-touchscreen.rules) should also support my touch screen
:-) Adding the following line solves this:

KERNEL=="event*", SUBSYSTEM=="input", ATTRS{name}=="TSC-10 DM TSC-10 DM",
SYMLINK+="input/evtouch_event"

BTW. instead of listing every single touch screen on the market, would it
be possible to simply create a /dev/input/evtouch_event device when it uses
the 'usbtouchscreen' kernel module? Something like:

KERNEL=="event*", SUBSYSTEM=="input", DRIVER=="usbtouchscreen",

Hi

I'm upstream author of QNapi and as Patryk said - for now there's no point
in translating QNapi to other languages.

But in future versions I'm going to add support for other subtitles
engines (like OpenSubtitles.org) and then I'm sure that at least English
translation will be available.

2008-06-24 Thread Søren Hauberg
Package: xserver-xorg-input-evtouch
Version: 0.8.7-3ubuntu1

*** Please type your report below this line ***
Looking at evtouch.c it seems that the default value of the MoveLimit
option is 180. I don't know the first thing about X drivers, but it
seems to me that with recent changes (to make the driver compatible
with the latest xorg release) the unit of this option is pixels.
This basically means that when using the default options you have
to move the cursor more than 180 pixels before the move is registred.
This is at least what happens on my system. I recommend lowering the
default value. I'm using a value of 5, which still might be a bit too
high.

BTW. are you guys in contact with the upstream author of the driver? It
seems that the debian version has diverged quite a bit from upstream.
So far actually that only the debian version works on any modern
distribution.

behaved unexpectedly. There wasn't a device /dev/mt0, but instead backup
was created in regular file until the partition was filled.

This behavior is misleading, and a security hole, because the
administrator can be left thinking he backed up the system, while in
effect he backed it up to his own disk, and ends with nothing on tape.

Some warning ought to be issued that /dev/ddn is accessed and there is no

All pointers are the same size and have the same alignment requirements, so
this change doesn't force the compiler to change make pageheap_memory aligned
on 8 bytes. I'm probably missing some trick (not very familiar with C++), but
why
not just do:

static TCMalloc_PageHeap pageheap_memory;

static inline TCMalloc_PageHeap* getPageHeap()
{
  return &pageheap_memory;
}

Forcing the compiler to allign the memory to whatever has the biggest alignment
requirement in the class should fix the problem indeed.

Bug#487801: python-moinmoin: Difficult to run Moin in standalone mode

2008-06-24 Thread Sam Morris
Package: python-moinmoin
Version: 1.7.0-3
Severity: important

I can't figure out how to run Moin in standalone mode. Having copied
over the data and underlay directories, there are several ways to
proceed.

 says that running 'python moin.py'
doesn't work. Ok, so this is because moin's files live in sys.path
rather than in the current directory, but running simply 'moin' just
spits out an error about not specifying a command.

Maybe those instructions are just bogus however. Looking at
 it should be
possible to run 'moin --config-dir=/etc/moin server standalone
--docs=/usr/share/moin/htdocs', but this complains that the module
wikiserverconfig cannot be found. I tried creating a wikiserverconfig.py
based on /usr/share/moin/config/wikiconfig.py, but that gave me
'TypeError: __init__() takes exactly 2 arguments (1 given)'. Ok, I guess
I need to look elsewhere.

/usr/share/python-support/python-moinmoin/MoinMoin/server/server_standalone.py
contains some inline instructions for creating a server, and their code
runs, but then trying to access the wiki yields 'ImportError: No module
named wikiconfig'... renaming the script to wikiconfig.py gives me
'RuntimeError: You can run only one server per process!'. Hm...

I noticed that the original moin source archive contains a top-level
wikiserverconfig.py file that seems to do the job, except that accessing
the wiki complains that /org/mywiki/data does not exist. Even if I try
overriding data_dir in wikiserverconfig.py does not change this error.
It looks like the clever Debian /etc/moin directory containing the
farmconfig stuff is getting in the way, even though I don't want to use
it and am not importing anything from that directory (at least
deliberately).

Anyway I am giving up for now, hopefully someone can help by providing
some instructions to run moin in standalone/desktop mode. :)

Bug#487797: python-debian: file arg in Changelog should expect file object

2008-06-24 Thread Tilman Koschnick
Package: python-debian
Version: 0.1.10~bpo40+1
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

Hi,

I repeatedly stumble over the 'file' arg to changelog.Changelog(),
expecting it should be an open file object and not a string. It's just a
minor thing, but I find

  f = open('/path/to/changelog')
  cl = changelog.Changelog(f)

more intuitive than

  cl = changelog.Changelog(f.read())

It corresponds better with how files are treated in deb822 as well.

Patch attached (strings are still supported, as to not break existing
scripts).

Hi all!

There is a bug in the CryptoPP.cc file, at least on ARM and probably
on any arch where data alignement matters.

The RawPokeUInt32 dereferences a void* after a cast to uint32_t*.
This should not be done on ARM (the result won't be what you expect).

My proposed fix is the same as the one used for sparc architecture.

Since almost every arch have performance penality when performing unaligned
access, I think the memcpy could be used on all arch (a recent compiler will
replace the fixed size memcopy by an optimized assembly version).

Best regards

Marc

 It was also fixed (differently) in 2.12.9-4:
  * New patch, 022_module-files-append-compat-module-files-d, prefer
/usr/lib32/gtk-2.0//loader-files.d and
/immodule-files.d over the /usr/lib/.../*.d pathnames added in
020_immodules-files-d and 021_loader-files-d when available; this is
useful for ia32-libs support; other modules might need additional support
depending on how they are loaded, for example GTK_MODULES will probably
still be looked up below libdir, as well as engines, printbackends,
filesystems, and generic modules. See also Ubuntu #205223 and #190227 for
examples.

 could you try rebuilding ia32-libs and verifying that it works? I did
 when I implemented this change, and it worked for me.

Bug#487797: python-debian: file arg in Changelog should expect file object

Hi,

Thanks for the patch.

I've never been happy with this, it just stems from my inexperience with
python when I wrote it.

I recently renamed the "file" argument to "content" in a branch I am
working on to try and reduce the confusion, however supporting both
would be better.

I will merge this patch once I have completed work on said branch,
hopefully today.

Thanks,

James

Which PERL version are you using?
(i.e. what does "perl -version" say)

For me, disabling "Always use PGP/MIME" does not get rid of the
undesired behaviour. Enigmail+icedove worked perfectly fine until
recently (maybe since last week? cant remember exactly).

Severity: normal

Hi,

the KOMA documentation (scrguide.pdf[1]) used to be distributed by Debian,
but I can’t find it any more. I can’t also find a notice in the
Changelog or the README.Debian that it was removed, although I assume
that it is related to #345604.

Would you please consider doing one of
 * including it in texlive-doc-de/texlive-doc-en
 * include it in tetex-doc-nonfree or similar, if it is non-free but
   distributable
 * mention that it was removed deliberately in README.Debian or a
   similar place

Thanks,
Joachim

Bug#487765: quodlibet: Unrated songs should have a 0 rank not 0.5 (2 notes)

2008-06-24 Thread Tetsuo
I agree with you it would be nice and more confuse

For the moment here my process :

1- import some album
2 - tag tracks with a personnal tag "rating=No"
3 - When a rating campaign begin (to scan the album and rated it),
rate songs and pass personnal tags from "No" to "Yes"
4 - Use rating tag with
  a) search engine to exclude include tracks
  b) know If they pass the judgement day campaign
  c) excluse them fof last fm plugin ;-)

Hmmm -- I got slightly confused by the fact CONFIG_HIGH_RES_TIMERS
only seems to have been added in 2.6.21.

Bug#487765: quodlibet: Unrated songs should have a 0 rank not 0.5 (2 notes)

2008-06-24 Thread Javier Kohen
I fail to see why 0 is better than 0.5 as a magic value, while 0.5 might be
a more statistically correct estimation (assuming you like the songs in your
collection uniformly ;-) ). On the other hand, having a "not yet rated" flag
sounds like a nice idea for your usage pattern.

Bug#487805: uses build-time default passwords

2008-06-24 Thread Peter Palfrader
Package: bacula-common
Version: 2.2.8-8
Severity: important

Hi,

the default config files for all bacula services contain passwords.
These passwords are apparently generated at *build* time, so everybody
installing a bacula on say lenny/i386 gets the same password for their
directors, the same passwords for their file daemons etc.

| #
| # List Directors who are permitted to contact this File daemon
| #
| Director {
|   Name = @[EMAIL PROTECTED]
|   Password = "/g2zh1831zpxxD6ZkdOz1kZ7zaGKRqpqli9WCPVDbH+X"
| }
|
| #
| # Restricted Director, used by tray-monitor to get the
| # status of the file daemon
| #
| Director {
|   Name = @[EMAIL PROTECTED]
|   Password = "6NyY2A22CnMkuujvuf42WhHSQvJ4CBMPtzGTuv1BnvPM"
|   Monitor = yes
| }

When I first setup my bacula infrastructure I really did not realize
that I had to change these passwords since they look random, and I had
therefore assumed that they were generated on my system, for this setup.

Only when I started adding another client of the same arch did I find
how flawed this assumption was.

If you ship default passwords rather than generating them on the host
the least you could do is to make them "CHANGE-ME-xyz" or something that
will make it obvious to the admin that they are not secure.

Sincerely,
weasel

Bug#487807: debsecan: doesn't send mail

2008-06-24 Thread Andrew Schulman
Package: debsecan
Version: 0.4.10+nmu1
Severity: normal

I run 'debsecan --format report --mailto andrex', but it seems that no
mail is sent. /usr/sbin/sendmail (which debsecan calls) is a symlink
to exim4, but after I run this above no activity shows up in
/var/log/exim4/mainlog. No mail is delivered, and the mail queue is
empty.

I have the above command running through the cron job, and I used to
get a debsecan report in my inbox once a day. That happened with a
few exceptions through June 3, than not again until June 10, and now
not since.

/etc/defaults/debsecan has

REPORT=true

time.7, including adding a mention of HRTs. The text that I plan to
put in man-pages-3.01 is shown below. Does it look okay to you
Stephane?

   The Software Clock, HZ, and Jiffies
   The accuracy of various system calls that set timeouts,
   (e.g., select(2), sigtimedwait(2)) and measure  CPU  time
   (e.g., getrusage(2)) is limited by the resolution of the
   software clock, a clock maintained by the kernel which
   measures time in jiffies. The size of a jiffy is deter-
   mined by the value of the kernel constant HZ.

   The value of HZ varies across kernel versions and hard-
   ware platforms. On i386 the situation is as follows: on
   kernels up to and including 2.4.x, HZ was 100, giving a
   jiffy value of 0.01 seconds; starting with 2.6.0, HZ was
   raised to 1000, giving a jiffy of 0.001 seconds. Since
   kernel 2.6.13, the HZ value is a kernel configuration
   parameter and can be 100, 250 (the default) or 1000,
   yielding a jiffies value of, respectively, 0.01, 0.004,
   or 0.001 seconds. Since kernel 2.6.20, a further fre-
   quency is available: 300, a number that divides evenly
   for the common video frame rates (PAL, 25 HZ; NTSC, 30
   HZ).

   High-Resolution Timers
   Before Linux 2.6.16, the accuracy of timer and sleep sys-
   tem calls (see below) was also limited by the size of the
   jiffy.

   Since Linux 2.6.16, Linux supports high-resolution timers
   (HRTs), optionally configurable since kernel 2.6.21 via
   CONFIG_HIGH_RES_TIMERS. On a system that supports HRTs,
   the accuracy of sleep and timer system calls is no longer
   constrained by the jiffy, but instead can be as accurate
   as the hardware allows (microsecond accuracy is typical
   of modern hardware).
  ...

   Sleeping and Setting Timers
   Various system calls and functions allow a program to
   sleep (suspend execution) for a specified period of time;
   see nanosleep(2), clock_nanosleep(2), and sleep(3).

   Various system calls allow a process to set a timer that
   expires at some point in the future, and optionally at
   repeated   intervals;   seealarm(2),getitimer(2),
   timerfd_create(2), and timer_create(3).

Bug#484533: vym: Vym corrupts files when saving

Xavier Oswald wrote:

make changes ? You mean you save the file, or changes by editing the .vym file
with a text editor ?

I open the existing .vym file (last edited with vym -
After that I make some changes in that file, and save it.
When I open again that file (with saved changes), it reports that error:

Fatal parsing error: error occurred while parsing content in line 134,
column 3
File is: /tmp/vym-fzFy1o/iskraemeco.xml
 style=" margin-top:0px; margin-bottom:0px; margin-left:0px;
margin-right:0px; -qt-block-indent:0; text-indent:0px;">2. MT173 -
prospekt HR (kaltenekar) + uzorak

So, these error shows after I reopen edited .vym file.
Everything is done only with vym.

I have unzipped the .vym file, and with vimdiff found some differences
in xml files.
The crucial difference is in an extra line in newly saved .vym file
(line 134 of 221 in xml file):

"http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-html40/strict.dtd">

After I delete that line from xml file and zip the files into .vym, I
can again normally open the .vym file.

I hope that these will help you.

Regards,
Dejan

to shut my box down, as usual, but nothing happened. It turned out
that acpid was not running: I manually started it with

  # /etc/init.d/acpid start

and everything got back working fine.
Then I found out that the same behavior is experienced on every
Sunday, on each box where I have acpid installed (one "desktop"
amd64 box and one i386 laptop).

I noticed that acpid log files are empty and get rotated
on Sunday:

  ls -altrF /var/log/acpid*
  -rw-r- 1 root root 620 2008-05-28 19:46 /var/log/acpid.4.gz
  -rw-r- 1 root root  20 2008-06-01 10:41 /var/log/acpid.3.gz
  -rw-r- 1 root root  20 2008-06-08 11:28 /var/log/acpid.2.gz
  -rw-r- 1 root root  20 2008-06-15 11:29 /var/log/acpid.1.gz
  -rw-r- 1 root root   0 2008-06-22 09:11 /var/log/acpid

BTW, where is /var/log/acpid.0 ?!?

This has happened since I upgraded from acpid/1.0.4-7.1 to
acpid/1.0.6-9 (on Wed, May 28 2008).
It seems that some cron weekly job causes acpid to die (or anyway
to exit).
But the only cron weekly jobs in common between the two boxes are:

  $ ls -l /etc/cron.weekly/[0sm]*
  -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root  312 2006-10-14 16:38 /etc/cron.weekly/0anacron
  -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root  528 2007-08-19 17:07 /etc/cron.weekly/man-db
  -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 1133 2007-07-30 14:21 /etc/cron.weekly/sysklogd

The obvious suspect is /etc/cron.weekly/sysklogd, but it seems
it does not even care about acpid logs:

  # syslogd-listfiles --weekly
  /var/log/mail.warn
  /var/log/user.log
  /var/log/daemon.log
  /var/log/messages
  /var/log/debug
  /var/log/auth.log
  /var/log/mail.err
  /var/log/mail.log
  /var/log/kern.log
  /var/log/lpr.log
  /var/log/mail.info

Which cron job rotates acpid log files?
Why does acpid die on Sunday?

Bug#485636: manpages-dev: nanosleep(2) and high resolution timers

2008-06-24 Thread Michael Kerrisk
As the last step of resolving this bug, I removed the entire paragraph
that discusses HZ, and added the following paragraph under NOTES:

   If the interval specified in req is not an exact multiple of
   the granularity underlying clock (see time(7)), then the inter-
   val will be rounded up to the next multiple. Furthermore,
   after the sleep completes, there may still be a delay before
   the CPU becomes free to once again execute the calling thread.

If these changes (which will appear in 3.01) seem okay to you Stepahe,
please tag the bug "fixed-upstream".

Thanks,

Michael

I'm lowering the severity since this error is only present if you try to

Bug#431330: update-manager: Wants to upgrade package forbidden with aptitude forbid-version

2008-06-24 Thread Thibaut Paumard

package update-manager
severity 431330 wishlist
thanks

Hi,

Indeed, it would be nice if synaptic, apt-get, aptitude and others
could have a better team play. I confirm the behavior you note. I was
able to prevent update-manager from upgrading a package by using
"lock version" in synaptic. On the other hand, both apt-get and
aptitude still want to upgrade this package!

Better interoperability of these various tools is a big task and
there is a solution to your immediate problem (from last year), so
I'm marking this bug as wishlist.

Best regards, Thibaut.

Hi,

I understand that the linking to OpenSSL is problematic, but at least for me,
smssend works perfectly for months [0].

So I disagree with your "completely broken anyway" which is _at least for me_
false.

But I have no time nor capability to maintain this package and I will have to
find another program doing the same !

Now I tried to install imapproxy on a server which never ever before had
this package installed, so no leftover files or debconf entries are to be
found. But:

Setting up imapproxy (1.2.6-3) ...

And again imapproxy.conf is empty:

During installation I get only asked on debconf question about the ip to

Bug#483070: 03_fix-compositing-overlay.patch causes the issue

2008-06-24 Thread Jérémy Lal

rebuilding 4.2.2-5 package without that patch doesn't trigger that issue...

From what i know, it looks like the openarena window, which has a black

background, is never reclaimed by xfwm4, when compositing is on.
Openarena process quits and xfwm4 let that black area open.

Well i don't understand how it works, but i guess there's something in
compositor.c
about the "wins_unredirected" counter, which is part of the patch, or the
different
conditions around
damage_screen (screen_info);
repair_screen (screen_info);
or
damage_win (cw);

but i'm most certainly wrong, since my attemps failed miserably :(

i would be surprised the bug comes from oa, since everything's ok with kde4 or
gnome (unstable).

Cheers,

Jérémy.

This is not a "good way to go". This is total nonsense.
At most, it is a "last resort option".

Please do not give users such advice Geert! Especially not in such early

Actually, I was meaning to replace void* with uint64_t, not uint64_t*.
So
static uint64_t pageheap_memory[(sizeof(TCMalloc_PageHeap) + sizeof(uint64_t) -
1) / sizeof(uint64_t)];

Or simply:
static TCMallog_PageHeap *pageheap = &pageheap_memory;

I don't really know. The reason why they are using a union is strict
aliasing:
http://git.debian.org/?p=pkg-webkit/webkit.git;a=commitdiff;h=ad4791202578b50ac2b19fa92c4e81550e1bdeea

On the other hand, why declare pageheap_memory as an array of void* and
not directly as TCMalloc_PageHeap ?

Interestingly, before being a void* array, it was:
static char pageheap_memory[sizeof(TCMalloc_PageHeap)];

And they changed it to the current thing to solve... alignment issues
on arm.

Before that, tcmalloc was not used, so the code didn't exist,
and the first public version of tcmalloc also uses an array of char.
http://code.google.com/p/google-perftools/source/browse/trunk/src/tcmalloc.cc?r=9

I see no rationale not to use static TCMallog_PageHeap...

Mike

Well, now I understand ; this change seemed to me at first unrelated
to the feature you were implementing, but now it makes sense.

I’m going to apply your patch, then.

Bug#484890: I've no idea

2008-06-24 Thread Patrick Winnertz
severity 484890 whishlist
retitle 484890 mc: Please change mc's search mask
thanks

Hello,

I've no idea how to fix this issue.
People who are well known to mc would be confused by a layout change. New
users might be confused by this layout now. As I think this is no severiy
normal I changed the bug to whishlist and retitled it.

Do you have a good idea how to fix this? The best idea would be a patch ;-)

Greetings

Bug#487820: rubygems: new upstream version

2008-06-24 Thread Ruben Fonseca
Package: rubygems
Version: 1.1.1-1
Severity: wishlist

There is a new upstream version at http://rubygems.org. It corrects some
unwanted behaviour (like always download the index file everytime we
want to install a gem).

Can you please update your distribution? I'm asking this because doing
"gem --update system" results in an error saying that "rubygems should
only be updated through the Debian package system" (not the actual
message).

Thank you

Ruben

On a second thought I changed the wrapper to not alter autossh too much, I came
up with the following
http://svn.debian.org/wsvn/collab-maint/deb-maint/autossh/trunk/debian/autossh_wrapper?op=file&rev=0&sc=0

Even though I'm quite sure the odds to fail 42 random guesses are pretty low.
Would that work for you?

> msgid "Workstation"

Actually, that's up to you, but indeed nothing needs that you *have*
to use these ugly hyphens.

So, if you prefer having "Estação de Trabalho", you can very well use
that.

To debian-edu-install maintainers, this is indeed something which is a
good use case for the "Choices-C" trick in debconf templates so that
you can add an English "translation" directly in the templates:

__Choices: Main Server, Workstation...
Choices-C: Main-Server, Workstation

Thus, users will show the choicees with hyphens while what will be
passed to debconf is what you did put in "Choices-C". Good way to show
friendly strings to suers while your scripts use more cryptic ones.

Yet another tip for a possible "Tips and tricks writing debconf
templates" talk/BOFH/course at DebConf8..:-)

Thanks. The syslog clearly shows your NIC and IDE controller being
recognized. It also clearly shows a problem with your SATA controller.
This looks to be a kernel problem. Here's the relevant part:

Good, the controller is recognized.

These lines seem to indicate that a disk (or DVD) is connected to link 1,
but actually talking to it fails.

Googling leads me to this thread on the kernel mailing list:
http://lkml.org/lkml/2008/2/14/467

There are two people there reporting the same problem, though possibly
with other chipsets. In both cases a BIOS upgrade solved the problem.

However, as you can see the kernel developer would be interested to
find out the actual cause of the problem and there are two kernel boot
options that could be tried first.

Can you try booting the installer [1] with (separately):
- pci=nomsi
- irqpoll

And see if that makes a difference? Please check the syslog or output of
dmesg for changes in the above.

Also, please check if a BIOS update is available but, unless you're in a
hurry, don't apply it yet as this may still be of interest to the upstream
kernel people, although it's also possible that the problem has been solved
in the mean time in 2.6.25.

Cheers,
FJP

Fix fatal error on call function get_template_patch() in
/usr/share/gosa/include

*** /tmp/tmpAKcJvG
In Ubuntu, we've applied the attached patch to achieve the following:

  * Merge from Debian unstable (LP: #242359). Remaining Ubuntu changes:
- debian/control: modify Maintainer to Ubuntu Motu Developers
- debian/rules: fix fatal error on call function get_template_patch() in
  /usr/share/gosa/include
  * Bump Standards-Version to 3.8.0.1.

We thought you might be interested in doing the same.

Bug#487396: Missing link error on ARM

2008-06-24 Thread Martin Guy
On 6/24/08, Matthias Klose <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote:

armel too.

I have /proc/cpu/alignment set to 5 and it's doing an unaligned word access

under gdb (and gcc -g):

Program received signal SIGBUS, Bus error.
0x400d2cd0 in std::string::assign () from /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.6
(gdb) bt
#0  0x400d2cd0 in std::string::assign () from /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.6
#1  0x8680 in std::string::operator= (this=0xbe8947af, __s=0x872c "")
at main1.cpp:18
#2  0x85b0 in main (argc=1, argv=0xbe894914) at main1.cpp:30
(gdb)

Set to the usual value of 1 (give garbage values):

Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.
0x400d2cec in std::string::assign () from /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.6
(gdb) bt
#0  0x400d2cec in std::string::assign () from /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.6
#1  0x8680 in std::string::operator= (this=0xbec237af, __s=0x872c "")
at main1.cpp:18
#2  0x85b0 in main (argc=1, argv=0xbec23914) at main1.cpp:30
(gdb)

or 3 (fixup):

Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.
0x400d2cec in std::string::assign () from /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.6
(gdb) bt
#0  0x400d2cec in std::string::assign () from /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.6
#1  0x8680 in std::string::operator= (this=0xbe9ce7af, __s=0x872c "")
at main1.cpp:18
#2  0x85b0 in main (argc=1, argv=0xbe9ce914) at main1.cpp:30
(gdb)

Hope this helps
