Bug#466342: ITP: gmyth -- library for accessing MythTV backends

2008-02-18 Thread Mario Limonciello
MythTV itself isn't needed on the local system for this package to operate.
This library will be depended upon in totem and gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad.

sigh. You are only the second person seeing this, /me never did see this in his
tests. I need more info.

What JVM did you configure in your OOo? What does /usr/bin/java point to? Which
JDKs do you have installed?

Do the other java extensions work? (-report-builder, namely)?

Thanks for the bug report. I've updated the release names in svn. I
remember that I used to say just "stable", "testing", and "unstable",
but it didn't work, and I can't remember why. If someone can figure out
why and fix it, or determine that it does work (I'm too lazy to test
now), then please do that.

Nested comments are not allowed. You should thus have used something like:

Some kind of overrides facility like lintian has should be doable,
although it'll probably need to wait until piuparts gets some serious
re-designing for flexibility.

If apache2 doesn't upgrade properly, then I guess the bug is in apache2.

Bug#464799: RFH: users/developers with Canadian Multilingual keyboards

2008-02-18 Thread Christian Perrier
To properly deal with #464799 which requests support for Canadian
Multilingual keymap
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keyboard_layout#Canadian_Multilingual_Standard)
in the installer (and therefore in console-data), I need someone with
the knowledge of such keyboard/keymap to test the console keymap I
cooked in that bug report.

Support this keymap seems important for good support of users in
Canada...something which I'm not in position to decide upon (I just
give trust the bug submitter's comment).

Please CC the BTS to comments if they're related to the bug's solution
or followup in -devel for general comments.

Hmm, now that we're build-depending on UnixODBC instead of iODBC, it might
also cause problems for back_sql. If you think this is the right solution
otherwise, we could revert back to iodbc for the time being. (I seem to
have a bug to shake out there anyway, openldap2.3 as it stands seems to be
missing a build-conflicts with libiodbc2...)

Bug#451972: no longer supports xinerama across multiple graphics cards

I will write a mail to the xorg mailing list after this, so this is
just for posterity. I appreciate any input you may have, regardless.

Gah, I was doing this via SSH and thus got bitten by $DISPLAY. When
run against the actual display, xrandr -q reports:

  Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1280 x 1024, maximum 1280 x 1200
  VGA-0 connected 1280x800+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 0mm x

640x48075.0 72.8 66.7 60.0
720x40070.1
S-video disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)

With this, I am actually failing to turn on VGA-0, even with
--same-as; the screen just stays blank.

Also, there's a maximum of 1280x1200 on screen 0. I really want
3840x1024 to put my three screens next to each other. Is this at all
possible?

When I try to add VGA-0, I get:

piper:~# xrandr --output VGA-0 --auto --right-of DVI-0
xrandr: screen cannot be larger than 1280x1200 (desired size 2560x1024)

This will be in the logs after I do that. What I find very strange
is that it mentions the Acer AL922 twice. This is the monitor
connected to the DVI-0 output. There's an "MRM B18XA" connected to
VGA-0 instead.

I think that translations unfuzzy is OK for this one (basically, that

I checked quickly and IIRC only the question is translated, not the choices.

Bug#457044: origin of this bug

2008-02-18 Thread tech

Hello,
I think I've found a clue about this bug :
the man page of kernel-img.conf says :

do_symlinks

By default, the kernel image post installation script shall create or
update the /vmlinuz and /vmlinuz.old symbolic links. This is true if
a /vmlinuz link already exists, however, in absence of /vmlinuz, the
script looks to see if this configuration file exists. If it does
not, the configuration script asks the user whether to create the
symbolic link, and stashes the answer in a newly created
/etc/kernel-img.conf. If the configuration file already exists, and
if this option is set to No, no symbolic link is ever created. This
for people who have other means of booting their machines, and do not
like the symbolic links cluttering up their / directory. Defaults to
Yes.

So I tried to delete /vmlinuz and /initrd then I ran dpkg-reconfigure
linux-image-2.6.22-3-686

I got :

inding valid ramdisk creators.
Using mkinitramfs-kpkg to build the ramdisk.
Not updating initrd symbolic links since we are being updated/reinstalled
(2.6.22-6.lenny1 was configured last, according to dpkg)
Not updating image symbolic links since we are being updated/reinstalled
(2.6.22-6.lenny1 was configured last, according to dpkg)

So it seems that even with do_symlinks=yes in /etc/kernel-img.conf the
installation script doesn't check the existence of symlinks in / and
doesn't create them if they don't exist. In this case the system won't
be able to boot anymore

GConf schemas have nothing to do with the menus.

As for the menu bug, it has been fixed in unstable.

Add testing to your sources.list.

A new version of OCaml has been released, and the migration to this new

this is correct, nevertheless, the bug is in squashfs-source and not the

Bug#466352: popularity-contest should no longer recommend mime-construct

2008-02-18 Thread EspeonEefi
Package: popularity-contest
Version: 1.43
Severity: normal

As the subject says. mime-construct was originally recommended in 1.30
as part of an effort to add support for compressed submissions to the
popcon server. This code was removed in 1.36 because server-side support
was never implemented. Given that apt-get now installs recommends
automatically, it would probably be good to drop this recommends that
popularity-contest no longer uses in any way.

2008-02-18 Thread Vincent Danjean
Package: clusterssh
Version: 3.22-1
Severity: normal

  Hi,

Due to firewalls, I use generic proxycommand in my .ssh/config.
I have something as:

Host *.fakedomain
ProxyCommand ssh fakedomain "tcpconnect `basename %h .fakedomain` %p"

Host fakedomain
Hostname firewall.fakedomain.org
User mylogin

This allow me to join any host 'foo' (behind the firewall) using:
ssh [EMAIL PROTECTED]

If I run 'cssh -e [EMAIL PROTECTED]', it works
If I add '[EMAIL PROTECTED]' in a tag, it does not. I got the error
message:

Bug#466356: libsigsegv: FTBFS on GNU/kFreeBSD (rerun of autoconf needed)

2008-02-18 Thread Petr Salinger

Package: libsigsegv
Severity: important
Version: 2.5-1
Tags: patch
User: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Usertags: kfreebsd

Hi,

the current version fails to build on GNU/kFreeBSD.

The official 2.5 tarball does not have support for GNU/kFreeBSD,
but the support went into upstream just after 2.5 release,
see
http://libsigsegv.cvs.sourceforge.net/libsigsegv/libsigsegv/ChangeLog?view=markup

The debian tarball libsigsegv_2.5.orig.tar.gz is not the official one,
see ChangeLog inside, so it already have support in configure.ac.

Please rerun autoconf on current debian package to propagate support
also into configure. That is all.

Thanks in advance

Petr

Bug#466357: Regularly blocks I/O => should use ionice to start beagled-helper too

2008-02-18 Thread Raphael Hertzog
Package: beagle
Version: 0.3.3-1
Severity: important

Regularly I have a process "beagled-helper" taking all the I/O on my disk
and severly reducing the speed of any other work I do. It would be good
if that process would be started with reduced priority I/O wise (and CPU
wise probably).

It should either call ioprio_set() or be started with ionice.

Unfortunately non-root can't use ionice -c3 (IDLE class), but you could at
least use the smaller priority from the "best effort" class:
ionice -c 2 -n 7

Ionice is Linux-specific, you should thus check if it exists before using
it.

Cheers,

Hi!

It's nice to get notified about new upstream verions (see #466212 which
is propably triggered by this) but it is not something we should have in
a package, especially in one targetted at a Debian stable release. Users
will get enormously annoyed by the message over the stable time and stop
using deluge but switch to a different application instead.

 Pretty please disable this notification.

Bug#459943: Confirm fior 2.3.1 in lenny and 2.4.0rc1 in unstable

2008-02-18 Thread Heiner Markert
Package: openoffice.org
Version: 1:2.3.1-5

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---

I can confirm that bug on i386 on lenny (current as of 18.02.2008). I have
similar problems with almost all my documents that I created before version
2.3.1 entered testing. The community version of openoffice.org does open
these documents correctly, so I can also confirm their statement that it is a
debian related issue. I did however not find any solution to solve this
problem on my own. I tried to change several options relating java and
loading/saving document options in general, but none worked. The problem is
also relevant for impress-documents, not only for writer files. It is VERY
annoying if almost all your documents become inaccessible by a minor version
upgrade.
The bug is still existing in 2.4.0-rc1 in current unstable.
On my machine, the document of the initial poster also crashes openoffice. The
strange thing about this is that openoffice loads the document and displays
it correctly for about half of a second, than it crashed. This process
repeats, independently of whether I chose to recover the document (it states
that recovering was successful, opens, displays, and crashes) or whether I
abort recovering and load the document again (same behaviour as for the first
time).
Deleting ~/.openoffice.org2 and starting openoffice makes office open the
document successfully ONE TIME ONLY. After closing office and restarting, the
crash comes up again. I guess some of the settings in .openoffice.org2 get
messed up since version 2.3.1, but I have no idea how to further dig into the
reason for this.

Regards,
Heiner Markert

You need something like
Virtual 2560 1024
in xorg.conf (Subsection Display). See II.5 of
http://wiki.debian.org/XStrikeForce/HowToRandR12

The server isn't capable of resizing the front buffer yet, that's why we
need this line for now so that a large front buffer is allocated at
startup even if not used.

Hi,

dpkg-source sets the mtime of all files patched by the .diff.gz to the

Sure, my mail wasn't meant to tell you to go to hell with your useless
triple head :) Given some discussion with upstream, I was just checking
whether your problem changed a bit recently.

Mirror is the default behavior, it is meant to give you the login window
on all monitors so that you can always login with a default config even
if some monitors do not work correctly. See III.2 of
http://wiki.debian.org/XStrikeForce/HowToRandR12 for xorg.conf based
configuration.

Having only one board work is what we need to get fixed...

Not sure about that unfortunately. If the driver doesn't even look at
board 0:12:0, it doesn't look good. Maybe you need to restore 2 devices
sections with the appropriate BusID lines? Not sure whether you need to
restore some corresponding Screen and ServerLayout sections...

Hi,

dpkg-source sets the mtime of all files patched by the .diff.gz to the

Upgrade case is sometimes shakey, that's by cowdancer design using

weird.
Do you have an environment which I can reliably reproduce?

Bug#459943: Spell Checker

2008-02-18 Thread Heiner Markert
Package: openoffice.org
Version: 1:2.3.1-5

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---

I spent another 30 minutes on this issue and finally found that deleting the
file
~/.openoffice.org2/user/registry/data/org/openoffice/Office/Linguistic.xcu
before starting openoffice helps to open the document. This file contains the
settings for the spell checker and hyphenator, and finally, the documents
load OK if spellchecking while typing is disabled.
I also realized that all documents where this bug occurs seem to be in german,
and in fact triggering german spell checking, either "while typing" or with
the dialog, immediately lets openoffice.org crash.

I think the bug should be moved to something spell-check/hunspell/german
related.

Best,
Heiner

I think I have a standard unstable environment... not sure how I can
help here.

I could tar’gz the whole of cow.base and put it somewhere on gluck.d.o,
but I’m not sure if it would be reproducible then.

BTW, are these /dev/pts messages normal? While running --update, I get
do have it mounted:

$ mount
[snip]
/dev/pts on /var/cache/pbuilder/build/cow.11845/dev/pts type devpts
(rw,noexec,nosuid,gid=5,mode=620)
$ ls /dev/pts

FYI, please see similar bug reports

originally submitted against dhcp3-client and reassigned to debconf by
Andrew Pollock

and

http://bugs.debian.org/465539 [Debconf fails to initialise when /bin/sh is zsh]
originally submitted to dictionaries-common, reassigned to debconf and
merged with #465537 by me

Quoting Andrew on #465537

I've never heard of zsh being used as /bin/sh before, and I'm not sure if
it's supported, but from my examination, it's something inside
/usr/share/debconf/confmodule that is returning non-zero. Putting an echo
statement immediately after the ". /usr/share/debconf/confmodule" never
executes.

Also note that this may well be the same as zsh bug:

[#351031] DEBCONF_USE_CDEBCONF - errors with /bin/zsh as /bin/sh

originally submitted against debconf and later reassigned to zsh.

In the meantime, the package is available from my repository on

  deb http://people.debian.org/~zack/debian unstable main

The packaging is available in the repository of the collaborative
maintenance project pkg-ocaml-maint on alioth. To check out the source
package just do one of the following:

  $ dget http://people.debian.org/~zack/debian/pool/galax_0.9.9-1.dsc

  $ debcheckout

Quoting Andrew on #465537

I've never heard of zsh being used as /bin/sh before, and I'm not sure
if it's supported, but from my examination, it's something inside
/usr/share/debconf/confmodule that is returning non-zero. Putting an
/echo statement immediately after the ". /usr/share/debconf/confmodule"
never executes.

Also note that this may well be the same as zsh bug:

[#351031] DEBCONF_USE_CDEBCONF - errors with /bin/zsh as /bin/sh

originally submitted against debconf and later reassigned to zsh.

Bug#459943: workaround

2008-02-18 Thread Heiner Markert
Package: openoffice.org
Version: 1:2.3.1-5

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---

sorry for writing so many mails. Workaround: remove package
openoffice.org-hyphenation-de. Helps for me, with obviously using hyphenation
features in german documents.
You can use "file/assistants/install further dictionaries" (or similar, I have
a german office, where it is "Datei/Assistenten/Weitere Wörterbücher
installieren") to install the missing dictionaries. This will additinally
give you german thesaurus.

Heiner

The issue is that the OpenAL we ship raises an exception when it
cannot find the audio device (which may happen for several reasons).
This needs to be trapped by the calling code, to either retry, or
disable audio, or something.

An example patch that I had been using for torcs for the same
issue was as follows:

+diff -urN torcs-1.3.0/src/modules/graphic/ssggraph/grsound.cpp

Applying something similar to the sound initialisation portion of
glest ought prevent the segfault, assuming that glest has some
mechanism to run with sound disabled.

Separately, one can set various options in /etc/openalrc for a
general fallback mechanism to avoid raising this exception, although
the correct configuration for this file depends quite heavily on the
local sound configuration.

Bug#466362: interfaces ordering trouble

2008-02-18 Thread Guillaume Rousse
Package: resolvconf

list-by-metric script exclude interfaces with non-global scope. As a
consequence, link-scoped tun0 interface used by vpnc is always excluded
from search, and VPN-specific DNS are usually used last, whereas they
should be first, whatever its weight.

See http://qa.mandriva.com/show_bug.cgi?id=33256 for more details.

Bug#466364: Please set the timestamp of patched files to guard against timestamp skews

2008-02-18 Thread Loïc Minier
Package: dpatch
Version: 2.0.29
Severity: minor

Hi,

dpkg-source sets the mtime of all files patched by the .diff.gz to the
same time as to avoid timestamp skews (which can trigger autotools to
automatically update the files). I think dpatch could be equally
clever and set the mtime of all files patched by a specific patch to
the same time. I'm setting this as minor and not wishlist because such
issues regularly bite many maintainers (I was bitten again this
 morning).

This could be achieved with touch "--date=(LC_ALL=C date)" or something similar.

 See for
the discussion leading to this bug report. :-)

   Thanks!

Hi Marcus,

I think the best source is the EWMH-Specs. The relevant piece would be

Implementing enhanced support for application transient windows

If the WM_TRANSIENT_FOR property is set to None or Root window, the
window should be treated as a transient for all other windows in the
same group. It has been noted that this is a slight ICCCM violation, but
as this behavior is pretty standard for many toolkits and window
managers, and is extremely unlikely to break anything, it seems
reasonable to document it as standard.

Looks like you only upgraded the meta package mysql-server, but not the
package mysql-server-5.0, which really contains the server.

That could happen when the binary independent meta package mysql-server
is already available in the archive (because it's part of the upload),
but the binary packages for your architecture are not yet available.

Not really a bug, but a consequence of running unstable. Anyway, I'll
try to workaround the problem with more strict dependencies.

Bug#466363: vde2: Document how to still use TAP interface with manual method

Package: vde2

Severity: wishlist

In README.Debian it would be nice to explain how to use the "manual"
method to setup an unconfigured TAP interface linked to a vde_switch (and
not only the setup with any real interface).

I just did this because that TAP interface is part of a bridge and I
really wanted the TAP interface. Thus I used:

auto qemu
iface qemu inet manual
vde2-switch -t qemu

and then expects line 'To install Adobe Flash Player 9 now, press ENTER.'
This line never comes, because 'flashplayer-installer' uses the command
'uname -m' to figure out architecture it's running on. In our case , ( a

with the patch linked here and a Build-Depends against libfftw3-dev, the

Bug#466367: apache2.2-common: conffile question during upgrade

2008-02-18 Thread Marc Haber
Package: apache2.2-common
Version: 2.2.8-1
Severity: normal

Hi,

piuparts -d etch -d lenny fails when the package being tested pulls in
apache2, because dpkg issues a "conffile changed" question for
/etc/default/apache2 during apache2.2-common update, even if the file
was not changed since etch's apache2 was installed. This makes the
automated update fail.

If you absolutely have to mess with your dpkg-conffiles, please do it
in a way that doesn't break an important test tool.

Greetings

Bug#465902: [Pkg-cryptsetup-devel] Bug#465902: cryptroot remote unlocking on boot feature

2008-02-18 Thread debian

hi!

jonas wrote:

Ok, so the script will be executed by the initramfs script provided by

it has to be called manually after logging in (using it as the login
shell ofc could be done, but if a real shell is provided this imho
actually adds quite some more value - i.e. other problems occuring
during the boot process can be fixed from remote, too), but all in all
it is (intended to be) called from the shell provided by the dropbear in
the initramfs, yes.

i.e. machine (re)boots, init starts dropbear, init starts cryptsetup
which prompts for cryptroot password on console. boot process just sits
there forever because nobody is at the console. then a log in from
remote via dropbear, user calls cryptunlock on the shell which calls
cryptsetup, and if target was unlocked, the cryptsetup which is waiting
for input at the console is killed and the boot process continues.

I think that cryptunlock is even more intuitive ;-) Would you accept
this name as well?

sure, done.
patch is attached.

david wrote:

the patch idea looks cool, but I'm wondering if it would perhaps be better
implemented as a keyscript? See README.initramfs for some documentation on how
the keyscripts work...ideally that would mean that no changes would be
necessary to the main cryptsetup initramfs scripts...

i beleive it's not a bad idea that the goal should be to implement a
method to be able to enter the passphrase via ssh, too - with emphasis
on the 'too', i.e. without disabling the prompt on the console. looking
at the current script, the cryptkeyscript part does not look like it's
better suited for this to me...
a different approach would be to get access to the console via ssh. but
thinking about a console running in a screen or something like that
convinced me that the 'do it in the background, then kill the dangling
console process' is - at least for now - the better approach.

Bug#460779: join efforts with multi-gnome-terminal ?

2008-02-18 Thread Mohammed Sameer
Hi,

multi-gnome-terminal has the same problem and it's been removed from lenny.

There are ongoing efforts to port m-g-t to gtk2
(https://alioth.debian.org/projects/multignometerm/)
Probably we will end up rewriting it with the features used by the 3 team
members.

Maybe you'd like to join efforts ?

Cheers,

Bug#466370: mc: preserve attributes

2008-02-18 Thread Riccardo Stagni
Package: mc
Version: 1:4.6.2~pre1-1
Severity: normal

When copying/moving some files with F5/F6, if I uncheck the "preserve
attributes" option mc creates files with the original permissions:
eg. copying something from an usb pendrive with a FAT filesystem, or
from /usr/bin.

Also the last version in unstable (-3) shows this behaviour.

Hi,

the current version has unsatisfied Build-Depends on
linux-libc-dev under non-linux ports.

Please, could you exclude linux specific package in Build-Depends
by using "linux-libc-dev [!kfreebsd-i386 !kfreebsd-amd64 !hurd-i386]",
or yet better, drop it completely, as linux-libc-dev is
(indirectly via libc-dev) build-essential on linux architectures.

Thanks for your cooperation.

In 2.4.0 RC1 no error is reported when opening the file. The bullets are
gone but all four lines are visible.

In Writer, you can add the bullets back, save it, and open it in kword
with the bullets visible.
But any edit and save in kword causes the bullets to disappear in OOo
again.

Is there a link to a kword bug report explaining why those developers
think this is an OOo bug?

Hmm... looks like the openclipart project totally crashed its release
process when movign to a new hosting system However, I found this:

http://commons.uncyclomedia.org/wiki/Category:Openclipart

Maybe that could be at least integrated? Althoug it might make more
sense to wait for official releases. However, according to thr FAQ:

http://www.openclipart.org/wiki/FAQ

There might not ever be any official releases in the future. Maybe a
different process has to be devised for getting content from their
website and packaging it?

Hello Jonas,

On Mon, 18 Feb 2008, Jonas Meurer wrote:
> Maybe I don't understand your request, as you talk about /etc/fstab,

Let me try to be clearer.

The script:
/usr/share/initramfs-tools/cryptroot
adds entries to /conf/conf.d/cryptroot in the initrd.

This is based on what root and resume devices are dependent on
an encrypted device.

For example, supose that we have the device
/dev/mapper/vg0-root where vg0 is a volume group based on
the dm-crypt device /dev/mapper/encbase.

If the entry in /etc/fstab has the root device as
/dev/mapper/vg0-root ...
then the following entry is added to /conf/conf.d/cryptroot in
the initrd
target=encbase,source=/dev/hda2,key=none,lvm=vg0-root

However, if the entry in /etc/fstab is
/dev/vg0/root ...
then no such entry is created.

Moreover, if the filesystem on /dev/vg0/root has label ROOT
and the entry in /etc/fstab is
LABEL=ROOT ...
then again no such entry is created.

Thus one is forced to add all these options to the kernel command
line which becomes quite long!

I hope this clarifies the bug report.

Thanks and best regards,

Kapil.

Hi Vincent,

I'm going to check with upstream on this. Have you tried using the -i

appropriate way to ignore the warning.

  Hi,

Due to firewalls, I use generic proxycommand in my .ssh/config.
I have something as:

ProxyCommand ssh fakedomain "tcpconnect `basename %h .fakedomain` %p"

This allow me to join any host 'foo' (behind the firewall) using:

If I add '[EMAIL PROTECTED]' in a tag, it does not. I got the error

Another simpler (and nicer) solution is simply to change
/etc/init.d/procps so that it uses the content of /etc/sysctl.conf but
also the content of /etc/sysctl.d/*.conf.

I would like to see this implemented because I have the case with another
custom Debian derivative where I'd like to change some kernel
parameters and it would be nice to be able to do that by dropping a file
in a standardized place instead of adding yet another startup script just
for that.

   if [ ! -r /etc/sysctl.conf ]
   then
   exit 0
   fi
   log_action_begin_msg "Setting kernel variables"
   sysctl -q -p
   log_action_end_msg $?

could become:

for file in /etc/sysctl.d/*.conf /etc/sysctl.conf; do
if [ -r $file ]; then
log_action_begin_msg "Setting kernel variables ($file)"
sysctl -q -p $file
log_action_end_msg $?
fi
done

I left /etc/sysctl.conf at the end so it overrides any other file.

Cheers,

Bug#459943: workaround

2008-02-18 Thread Rene Engelhard
Package: konqueror
Version: 4:4.0.1-1
Severity: important

Konqueror hangs reproducibly when the context menu is invoked by
right-click on a hyperlink in any web page. The icon turns into a hand
and Konqueror hangs, without responding to input. When I press the
Close button in the window frame, it segfaults.

Has this started to happen recently, or have you seen it in previous
versions too? Is there some way you could try to see if an update in
some other package is related to this?

I've taken a look at that code and there's nothing strange
there. Moreover, it's code that has not changed since two years ago.

- netio.c:1095-1098 --
length = recvbufused - (nextstr-netbuf);
body = g_malloc(length+1);
memcpy(body, nextstr, length);
body[length] = '\0';
--

The only thing there that's not quite kosher is that length is an
unsigned int, but g_malloc wants an unsigned long. Even if those are
different types on your arch there's no way I see that can be a problem,
because as far as I can see from the code, length will always be less
than 4096.

This is weird.

Bug#466413: delay should also handle microseconds

2008-02-18 Thread Nico Golde
Package: xosd-bin
Version: 2.2.14-1.5
Severity: wishlist

Hi,
it would be nice if the osd_cat delay (-d) could handle the
delay in microseconds rather than in seconds because if you
use the bar for example to show the volume level 1 second is
too long and if you use 0 you wont see anything.
Kind regards

Bug#465902: [Pkg-cryptsetup-devel] Bug#465902: cryptroot remote unlocking on boot feature

2008-02-18 Thread debian

hi!

jonas wrote:

every required passphrase. Am I correct here?

yes you are, and that made me realize that i totally ignored the
multiple crypt targets scenario...

the cryptunlock script ofc has to go through all targets, too. actually
it would in the end have to do more or less the full cryptroot-script
run plus killing the console cryptroot-script after it completed. so
that means it's most straightforward to simply call the cryptroot-script
(and change this to work with random ttys).

as the current rationale is to continue with the boot process after all
targets were handled (and not necessarily successfully unlocked, which
can make sense if some of them are not vital for booting), a check that
all targets are unlocked is not needed.

i guess simply killing all cryptsetups is ok. so adding that killall to
the cryptroot-script should make another script superfluous.

so, now the command to unlock the crypttargets after logging in via
dropbear, is simply /scripts/local-top/cryptroot itself.

could also create a fifo and wait for input of a passphrase via that
fifo in parallel.

It might be harder to implement as a shell script...but it should be
doable...something like "echo some_prompt > /dev/stdout; mkfifo
/tmp/cryptpass; cat /dev/stdin /tmp/cryptpass | read REPLY" (haven't
tested it so I can't be sure it works).

i don't think that will work...
i don't have any idea right now how this could be achieved in a simple
.sh way... (see 'console in screen or similar'...)

The advantage is that there is no need to kill cryptsetup processes

not having to kill a cryptsetup process would certainly be an advantage.
but after all i'd still say extending the non-keyscript functionality is
more straightforward.

and no need to change cryptsetup initramfs scripts. The keyscript

i think the non-keyscript cryptsetup part had to be removed (plus
probably a non-keyscript cryptsetup script had to be added).

could also write the name of the device it is currently waiting for a
passphrase for to some file which the cryptunlock util could read so
that it can provide a more user friendly prompt.

well that touches the point which jonas pointed out earlier, i totally
missed the multiple-crypttargets scenario...
i think that's fixed nicely.

above the (1st try's) prompt-line, the info about the target to be
unlocked should be printed.

Bug#466411: subversion: svn log doesn't warn the user when some characters are not representable

2008-02-18 Thread Vincent Lefevre
Package: subversion
Version: 1.4.6dfsg1-1
Severity: normal

"svn log" silently generates a log file even when some characters are
not representable in the charset specified by the current locale, e.g.
it gives things like:

Test caract?\195?\168re non ISO-8859-1: ?\226?\134?\146

(with obfuscated codes). It may be difficult to detect such problems
in large ChangeLog files (the user who is unaware of this undocumented
behavior may think that everything is OK since "svn log" terminated
normally). Unfortunately upstream doesn't care.

A warning message to stderr could be a solution.

Then I still don't understand your statement above. What is the thing
that you prefer to check outside the normal build process?

Ok, I'll see what I can do. I repeat my request for packages which may
be hard to transition. If I get none of those, I'll just pick some
random packages from the archive which currently build-depend on
autotools-dev.

It would be nice to have some consensus that my transition efforts are
not wasted though. So I have a question:

Does everyone agree that it would in theory be better to run autotools
during the build process? In other words, if you don't have to do
anything to your packages for it, would you have a problem with this?

("you" above is addressed to anyone reading this.)

I still consider "not building from source" to be a Bad Thing, and
therefore I think this is the wrong approach.

The best argument I've heard so far, is "we care more about other bugs,
and we want to be able to ignore those". However, I don't really think
this is a big problem. The program was tested with the same automake
version that it is built with. Why would it suddenly FTBFS? I can see
that it might do so while doing the transition to running autotools
during the build. But that's the maintainer's problem. They can take
their time (or ask me for help :-) ). It's not a big problem if they
delay following my proposed rule. Once they have changed their rules
files, things should just keep working.

And if it doesn't, a dirty workaround of not running autotools can
always be installed, if fixing whatever problem does come up seems to be
too hard.

Build-depending on versioned automake doesn't look really nice, though.
This is how it currently should be done, AFAIK, but it might be better
to recommend against it. However, in that case great care must be taken
when increasing its version, similar to increasing the default gcc
version.

All this can easily be tested before actually starting the transition,
though, just like with gcc. Bugs can be filed and fixed to make
packages work with the newer automake before it becomes the default.
Transitions may be some work, but they shouldn't result in too much
breakage. And if the RMs don't like it, and want us to spend time on
other bugs, they can just say "the newer automake will not be the
default for the next release, therefore bugs with it are not RC".

So you don't want to remove files which are unchanged during the build.
Do you agree on removing all files which were changed though? I think
even that would require rerunning of some autotools parts in some cases,
but I'm not sure.

And just that statement, "all changed files should be removed by the
clean target", is enough to fix the bug we're talking about. This rule
automatically makes two builds in a row give identical results (except
for time stamps).

Of course this is a separate point. IMO clean should remove any file
which was changed during the build. And secondly, I think build should

Bug#466414: RM: kflog -- RoM; inactive upstream; few users; no rdeps

2008-02-18 Thread Stefan Gybas

Package: ftp.debian.org

I'm the maintainer of the kflog package. Please remove the package from the
archive since there have been no upstream updates since 2003. There have
been only very few users so I think keeping this package causes more work
than it helps a few users. Thanks in advance!

I'm not sure if you're still trying to locally reproduce this bug or
not, but in case it helps, I was able to reproduce it by trying to
upgrade to sid using the Debian Etch netinstall VMware image off of
http://www.thoughtpolice.co.uk/vmware/ and VMware Player 2.0.2.

Bug#466415: zabbix-frontend-php: syntax error in copt.lib.php on line 112

2008-02-18 Thread Michel Meyers
Package: zabbix-frontend-php
Version: 1.4.4-3
Severity: important

On systems running php4, this problem occurs:
http://www.zabbix.com/forum/archive/index.php/t-8582.html

My example system:
Apache 1.3.34-4.1
libapache-mod-php4 6:4.4.6-2+b1

The above URL also mentions a fix, changing all the:
/* protected */ static
to
/* protected static */

in copt.lib.php.

Alternatively, make the package depend on PHP5 to work around this
issue.

Bug#342582: Is this bug still open?

2008-02-18 Thread Tim Richardson
Hi Matej,
I'm going through old bugs to clean them up, if possible.
This bug is time-consuming to investigate, although your report is
clear.
Do you know if later versions of OpenOffice are working?
The bibus-biblio project site proudly announces OOo compatibility so
perhaps it works now?

We've also already got it Ubuntu/main (where I am basing my package on it

Bug#466416: backuppc corrupts its data if they are on a reiserfs partition

2008-02-18 Thread Luca Arzeni
Package: backuppc
Version: 2.1.2-6
Severity: important

I can state the problem this way: "backuppc corrupts a reiserfs
partition" and "a ls or find command running on a corrupted reiserfs
partition hangs the server".

I'm using backuppc since 2004, under sid; that time I had compiled
backuppc by miself, since it was not in the package list.
Then I migrated to sarge (using backuppc included in the release) and
now I'm using it with etch. I'm always been using reiserfs for the data
partition, with two HD in RAID 1 configuration.

More or less one time a year, backuppc hanged the backup server.
Looking for a solution I discovered that the data partition was
corrupted and simply by running an "ls" or a "find" command in
the incriminated dir, the server hangs and stops responding to
the console or the network.
The problem was caused by the BackupPC script that was running an
ls or similar command in that dir, and it hanged the system.

I'm not able to determine the cause of the corruption. The server is
powered using an UPS, and I'm (almost) sure that has no other problem
(that is, excluding the problem that I'm now reporting); smartmontools
is up an running, no HD error or HW falure was detected.

I can imagine only three possible causes for these hangs:
- the high number of links that backuppc creates in its data directory;
- the too nested directory structure that backuppc uses for the backupped pc;
- the long names that backuppc uses for the linked filenames

The backupped network has only 6 machines, all running debian linux.
The backup server has also a SCSI adapter that holds a 4GB streamer
that I use for a weekly tape backups.

I know that people is making bigger backups (mine is only 60 GB for data
partition) and on bigger networks (more than 100 pc, according to
various mailing list), so I'm not pushing neither backuppc nor reiserfs
to their limits.

I know also that reiserfs should not have problem on managing data
directory; also, we use it as our fs for all machines, and since 2003 we
had no problem with it, excluding 2 HD that were defective (and that were
detected by smartmon tool, so it was not a problem of reiserfs).

In my understanding the problem it's caused by the interaction between
them (reiserfs and backuppc).

The problem was solved by running reiserfsck --rebuild-tree; this is the
log that was produced:
