Bug#432649: console-common: [debconf_rewrite] Debconf templates and debian/control review

2007-07-11 Thread Christian Perrier
Package: console-common
Version: N/A
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

Dear Debian maintainer,

On Wednesday, June 20, 2007, I notified you of the beginning of a review process
concerning debconf templates for console-common.

The debian-l10n-english contributors have now reviewed these templates,
and the proposed changes are attached to this bug report.

Please review the suggested changes are suggested, and if you have any
objections, let me know in the next 3 days.

Please try to avoid uploading console-common with these changes right now.

The second phase of this process will begin on Saturday, July 14, 2007, when I
will
coordinate updates to translations of debconf templates.

The existing translators will be notified of the changes: they will
receive an updated PO file for their language.

Simultaneously, a general call for new translations will be sent to
the debian-i18n mailing list.

Both these calls for translations will request updates to be sent as
individual bug reports. That will probably trigger a lot of bug
reports against your package, but these should be easier to deal with.

The call for translation updates and new translations will run until
Thursday, July 26, 2007. Please avoid uploading a package with fixed or changed
debconf templates and/or translation updates in the meantime. Of
course, other changes are safe.

On Friday, July 27, 2007, I will contact you again and will send a final patch
summarizing all the updates (changes to debconf templates,
updates to debconf translations and new debconf translations).

Again, thanks for your attention and cooperation.

 Template: console-data/keymap/policy
 Type: select
__Choices: Select keymap from arch list, Don't touch keymap, Keep kernel
keymap, Select keymap from full list
 Default: Don't touch keymap
 _Description: Policy for handling keymaps:
- The keymap describes how keys are laid out on your keyboard, and what
- symbols (letters, digits, etc.) are drawn on them.
- .
- "Select keymap from arch list" will allow you to select one of the
- predefined keymaps specific for your architecture - you will most likely
- want this unless you have a USB keyboard.
- .
- "Don't touch keymap" will prevent the configuration system from
- overwriting the keymap you have in /etc/console. Select this if you want
- to keep a keymap you obtained through other means. Please remember to
- install new keymaps with install-keymap(8) if you select this choice.
+ The keymap records the layout of symbols on the keyboard.
  .
- "Keep kernel keymap" will prevent any keymap from being loaded next time
- your system boots. It will remove from /etc/console any keymap you may
- have already selected (it will be lost), but if you have already loaded a
- keymap, it cannot be changed back until you reboot.
- .
- "Select keymap from full list" offers a full listing of all predefined
- keymaps. You want this, if you use an USB keyboard from a different
- computer architecture or if you use an adapter to use such a keyboard.
+ - 'Select keymap from arch list': select one of the predefined keymaps
+specific for your architecture (recommended for non-USB keyboards);
+ - 'Don't touch keymap': don't overwrite the keymap in /etc/console,
+which is maintained manually with install-keymap(8);
+ - 'Keep kernel keymap': prevent any keymap from being loaded next time
+the system boots.
+ - 'Select keymap from full list': list all the predefined keymaps.
+Recommended when using cross-architecture (often USB) keyboards.

Bug#379138: fails to start if there's labeled addresses present

2007-07-11 Thread Tore Anderson

* Andrew Pollock

For what it's worth, if I add an IP address to eth0 with a label of
eth0foo, ifconfig also has a hard time dealing with the situation.
Try it and see.

I suspect iproute is letting us doing things with the networking that
older tools and methods of querying can't deal with.

Well, ifconfig has been deprecated for years in favour of iproute2,
precisely because it can't deal with lots of functionality modern Linux
kernels provide. Developement on net-tools ceased in April 2001!

So that's not really a good excuse for the dhcp3 suite to failing to
work in what has been a perfectly valid setup for many years, IMHO.

No - I am running a current sid here and it fails to build both in
uptodate pbuilder and cowbuilder on my PowerBook G4.

If you tell me how I can be of help to resolve this problem please let
me know.

Also it seems a shame that exim says "User unknown" while the real
problem is logged only in mainlog.

The text "User unknown" does not appear anywhere in Exim's source
code.
If any Exim installation is emitting it, it is because the
configuration

file has used that text.

Ours does not use that text.

However, I believe there are (or were) other MUAs/MTAs that overwrite
whatever message comes with a 550 error, replacing it with "User
unknown". There were certainly cases of this in the past.

That looks like a case of this.

Dan, can you please show exim log entries of the rejection you claim?

Greetings
Marc

Actually it should not. When clicking a link in rng, rng just calls
'xdg-open someurl'. This program usually returns as soon as the browser
shows the URL. In your case it seems to wait until the browser is closed
again.

Unfortunately I can't reproduce your bug under gnome either, so I need
some more infos Could you please start

  xdg-open http://debian.org

in a console and check if xdg-open returns when the browser opened?

Cheers,

Bastian

 The call of the GNOME meta-packages is not to pull non-GNOME software;
as I said, you'll be free to chose when Recommends are usable for us

Bug#432655: ktshell cannot display seeds/downloads that are not shown in ktorrent gui

2007-07-11 Thread Avi Rozen
Package: ktorrent
Version: 2.1.4.dfsg.1-3+b1
Severity: normal

If the user filters the display of torrents using the groups tab in ktorrent,
then
the filtered torrents cannot be listed in ktshell.

This happens because ktorrent responds with a single empty line for each file
that
is not shown in the gui, instead of the full 10 line record, when it's
interrogated
by ktshell.

Workaround: show all torrents in ktorrent gui.

use that.

Bug#432654: FTBFS[powerpc]: Error: junk at end of line: `,9'

2007-07-11 Thread Gerfried Fuchs
Package: pulseaudio

Hi!

pulseaudio fails to build on powerpc. You can look up the build logs
on [1], the last parts of the failure are:

#v+
{standard input}: Assembler messages:
{standard input}:167: Error: syntax error; found `,' but expected `('
{standard input}:167: Error: junk at end of line: `,9'

Not too sure how to fix it, hopefully you have an idea.

 So long,

I took a look at your patch and it seems to fix this bug. I also
forwarded it to the original submitter of the bug to get his oppinion.

However, I has to add one character to be able to compile dinifte:

Bug#432660: ogre FTBFS due to broken SSE detection on HPPA

Package: ogre
Severity: serious
Justification: FTBFS on hppa
Version: 1.4.2-2

Ogre attempts to build sse optimizations for platforms that do not have
sse intructions set. This bug also affects the unofficial armel port, and
possibly others (once the other bugs preventing those builds get fixed..)

However, atleast powerpc port did the right thing. Most likely just the
configure check is broken.

Bug#432659: monotone: FTBFS on alpha, configure fails mysteriously

2007-07-11 Thread Ludovic Brenta
Package: monotone
Version: 0.35-1
Severity: serious

The configure fails mysteriously on alpha:

checking whether the compiler supports tr1::unordered_map... no
checking for early 4.0-series g++ bug in tr1 hashtables... yes
checking whether C++ streams support sync_with_stdio... configure: error: could
not generate input for test 1
See `config.log' for more details.
make: *** [config.status] Error 1

This is the only architecture where the configure fails.

Please look in the configure script to see if there is anything specific
to alpha. If not, let's attempt the build again with the next upload.
If it fails again, I suggest we drop alpha from the list of supported
architectures for this package.

2007-07-11 Thread Trent W. Buck
Package: slapd
Version: 2.3.30-5
Severity: normal

Note: I've never used LDAP before, this may be a non-bug.

Following http://wiki.debian.org/OpenLDAPSetup, I tried the following
command (with slapd stopped):

$ sudo slapindex

WARNING!
Runnig as root!
There's a fair chance slapd will fail to start.
Check file permissions!

slapd runs as the user openldap, so naturally I tried

$ sudo -u openldap slapindex
could not open config file "/etc/ldap/slapd.conf": Permission denied (13)
slapindex: bad configuration file!

I check the config file:

$ ls -l /etc/ldap/slapd.conf
-rw--- 1 root root 4366 2007-07-11 18:37 /etc/ldap/slapd.conf

In #ldap on irc.freenode.net, _ranger_ told me that this file should
be

-rw-r- 1 root openldap 4366 2007-07-11 18:37 /etc/ldap/slapd.conf

This wouldn't be a problem if slapd ran as root, but apparently it
runs as the user openldap by default.

Bug#432661: sun-java6-bin: please only recommends libnss-mdns

2007-07-11 Thread Erhard Weinell
Package: sun-java6-bin
Version: 6-00-2
Severity: minor

The recent version of sun-java6-bin (6-01-1) depends on libnss-mdns, which
pulls in avahi-daemon.
This is unwanted in my network, and I guess unwanted in other places, too.
In addition, I cannot reproduce bug 410116, although I do not have libnss-mdns
installed.

In that case, you could put the script in /usr/share/doc/blah/examples.

This might also be because it has been tried to be built on one of the slower
arm buildds - and the cc1plus command have used too much memory - and then
gets killed.

I have at least seen that in other packages.

Bug is also fixed in this your patched package. I just ran all
afternoon with the svn version without incident, I will continue
running with this version now.

Best get it into unstable before the wailing begins, if it hasn't
already!

Bug#423141: more questions about #423141

After learning a lot about how Xlib caches its events, extending xtrace
to tell me more about some obscure extensions xlib is using and finding
(most likely totally) unrelated bugs in ratpoison while searching for
this one, and trying to reproduce with all things the same version I'm
still lost. So here some more tests and questions, though I have to
admit they are mostly guessing into the dark...

Attached is a new version of the test program, that should be less
sesnsitive to key events.

Could you test if it also shows the behaviour of aborting when showing
the window list after program started? (and not while the program is
running).

There is a loop to 1000 near the end of the program. Does it also happen
if that loop is removed?

Does it also happen without the font or the winfmt set?
(try starting ratpoison with -f /dev/null to make it omit your
.ratpoisonrc). Both the test program and opera would be intresting.

What locale is your ratpoison running with? Does the bug still show up,
if ratpoison is running in en_US (without .UTF-8) locale?
(You might need to generate that first to make sure it can be used, if
it is not in /etc/locale.gen yet).

Is a locally build ratpoison still unable to reproduce the problem?
(if it is now with more knowledge what triggers it, a backtrace with
 debug symbols would be intresting).

Even without debug symbols for ratpoison, does the backtrace give any
further hints where this happens? (well, there is a good chance that
even if this place is located, it might just be something else wanting
memory after the faulty part ate all of it, but at least there is a
chance it is the buggy part).
Installing libx11-dbg might give more hints if xlib calls are involved.

Could you try running ratpoison in valgrind --tool=massif and send me
the .txt files it generates? (Best one time for opera and one time for
the xfakewindow program)

Thanks in advance,
Bernhard R. Link

Excuse me, but I have an nc8000 with kmix 4:3.5.7-2 and it works. If
you
configure the shortcut again in kmix, does it recognise the pressing of keys?
Does it works with another key combination?

I had another global shortcut (for 'PCM' instead of 'Master channel')
and it
works too.

If so, you can send the contents of ~/.kde/share/config/kmixrc.

Best regards,

Ender.

Bug#394333: Status for LVM and mirroring?

2007-07-11 Thread Ketil Malde
Hi,

I've run into similar problems trying to use LVM and mirroring on
Ubuntu. I notice that the last messages on this issue are dated October
2006, and claiming fixes committed and enhancements being added. Is
there any place to follow the current state of these issues? I'd really
like to use LVM mirroring instead of md, but I'm unable to find any
resources on it. Pointers?

I'm using a patched vesrion of ktshell (see bug #432433).

By "can't display" I mean that the torrent record displayed
is mangled - most fields are empty or showing wrong data.

When showing all torrents in ktshell (option 1 in the main menu),
all records may be mangled, not only the ones filtered in the
ktorrent gui.

User space utilities shouldn't create kernel panics by just calling a
function. Thus I would think it's a kernel problem. The quota package
only contains the user space utilities, but not the kernel code.

Subject: wxmaxima: Not connected to maxima!
Package: wxmaxima
Version: 0.7.0a-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

If I launch wxmaxima I have this message "Not connected to maxima!".

I tried a solution to change in the file /home/arnaud/.wxMaxima the line

I read this on a reportbug for wxmaxima 0.7.1, but it does not work here.

Bug#432073: no longer interprets mod5 modifier

2007-07-11 Thread Dmitry E. Oboukhov

mfk> Yes, it is still there.

I've checked svn-version 4983,4973 and mod5 key functions rather normally.
xmodmap conclusion is below.

Please test svn-version more thoroughly. Have You restarted fluxbox
after upgrading?

With Your config xmodmap my mod5 also function.

If You get mod5 working in svn I'll make a patch.

dwork:[/home/dimka]$ xmodmap -e 'clear mod5' \
 && xmodmap -e 'add mod5 = Caps_Lock' && xmodmap

xmodmap: up to 3 keys per modifier, (keycodes in parentheses):

Bug#432667: dh-make: triggers lintian warning

2007-07-11 Thread Adrian von Bidder
Package: dh-make
Version: 0.43
Severity: minor

Hi,

The debian/rules created by dh-make triggers the following lintian warning:

W: btrfs-progs source: debian-rules-ignores-make-clean-error line 50
N:
N: A rule in the debian/rules file for this package calls the package's
N: clean or distclean target with a line like:
N:
N:-$(MAKE) distclean
N:
N: The leading - tells make to ignore all errors. Normally this is done
N: for packages using Autoconf since Makefile may not exist. However,
N: this line ignores all other error messages, not just the missing
N: Makefile error. It's better to use:
N:
N:[ ! -f Makefile ] || $(MAKE) distclean
N:
N: so that other error messages from the clean or distclean rule will
N: still be caught.

cheers

Bug#432669: ltspfs: cdpinger report error if /var/run/ltspfs_fstab is missing

2007-07-11 Thread Petter Reinholdtsen

Package: ltspfsd
Version: 0.4.3+debian2+0.edu.0.etch.0

I noticed this bug in the version used by Debian Edu/Etch, but suspect
it is present in all other versions as well. After converting the
LTSP chroot to handle diskless workstations, the boot reported this
error (typed from the screen, typos might be present):

  Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/sbin/cdpinger", line 138, in ?
  main()
File "/usr/sbin/cdpinger", line 66, in main
  do_ltspmount(mountpoint, 'remove')
File "/usr/sbin/cdpinger", line 66, in do_ltspmount
  fd = open('/var/run/ltspfs_fstab', 'r')
IOError: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: '/var/run/ltspfs_fstab'

Is this a fatal error, or should it be silent when the file is
missing? The message do not make this clear.

Happy hacking,

Bug#355474: Work-around for "Illegal PORT command" in dupload

2007-07-11 Thread Francois Marier
I have the same problem as you with dupload.

However it works fine if I run:

  FTP_PASSIVE=1 dupload x.changes

If that works for you too, I'd say that this bug could be closed once the
error message is modified to say something like:

Can't upload x.deb: Illegal PORT command.
Try enabling the passive mode by setting the FTP_PASSIVE environment
variable to 1 before using dupload.

Cheers,

Francois

Bug#420209: xserver-xorg-video-intel: blank screen, PP_STATUSandallocate pages warnings in X log

2007-07-11 Thread Jose Manuel D. Mendinueta
Hi, this is a copy of more data I sent to Bugzilla.Xorg

More comments about the BUG... With my hardware (Dell inspiron 510m, video
Intel 855GM):

a) With version 2.1.0 of the driver and kernel 2.6.21.6, it works. However,
lid resume does not work. I use acpid and vbetool to switch off and on the
screen when I close or open the screen. I can switch between text and graph
mode. It is interesting that with previous i810 driver, when starting or
ending Xorg, there were some "noise" in the screen, seemed that videoram was
not cleared (zeroed). Now the transition between console and X is completely
OK. Here are relevant parts of Xorg.log:

b) with kernel 2.6.22, it works. But when rebooting or halting, the "black
screen of dead" happens when X is shutting down, and I have to do a hard
reset (the computer completely freezes). If I try to switch to console, black
screen and freeze. The black screen effect in both cases seems to switch off
the LCD. The log is the same that in the previous case.

Please tell me if this information is accurate, or your want me to do further
testing.

Cheers,

Mendi

By visual inspection of your config file, I would guess that you have
lost
the selection of master channel, could it be? It would be a line like:

MasterMixerDevice=2

(for headphones, IIRC)

Please select again the master channel.

Bug#432671: string "example" not localized

2007-07-11 Thread Giuseppe Sacco
Package: dblatex
Version: 0.2.5-1
Severity: normal

I am using dblatex to convert docbook into pdf. I noticed that one
string (at least) is not translated into Italian. This simple document
below display that string "Example" is not translated into "Esempio"
even if language Italian is specified.

--- minimal docbook example ---

Test

  Caption
SELECT AnagraficaClienti.RagSociale
FROM AnagraficaClienti
WHERE AnagraficaClienti.CodCliente=Fatture.CodCliente.

I compile this document using any of the commands:
> dblatex -o test.pdf -P latex.babel.language=italian --pdf test.sgml
> dblatex -o test.pdf --pdf test.sgml

Other strings, like "Figure" or "Index" are correctly translated.
I checked the
file /usr/share/xml/docbook/stylesheet/dblatex/xsl/common/it.xml and it
contains the corrected translated strings, so I don't know where to look
for fixing this problem.

Bye,
Giuseppe

2007-07-11 Thread Martín Ferrari
Package: moc
Version: 1:2.5.0~alpha2-1+b1
Severity: normal

When using the go to directory (i) or open url (o) commands, and you use
the delete/backspace to edit the line, the text after the cursor gets
corrupted.

Example:

├URL: http://gaogle.com/_

I go to the 'a' and press delete:

├URL: http://goglle.com

And after a few more deletes in the same position:

├URL: http://gle

So, you get the idea...

With that keyboard selected, configuring the shortcuts does not work
at all. The keystrokes on the special buttons are simply ignored.

The mixer works fine when operated with the mouse. Can I select the
master channel from the GUI?

Bug#432675: Wishlist: Conary-like functionality in apt

2007-07-11 Thread Xipietotec

Package: APT
Version: N/A
Severity: Wishlist
Architecture: All

Conary is a novel GPL-incompatible package manager which downloads only the
portions of a package which include changes from the package currently
installed, greatly reducing bandwidth strain on the repository severs, and
greatly speeding up updates for users.

While I am not a programmer (otherwise I'd have just submitted a proposed
patch with this wishlist), this cannot be too much more difficult that
running a diff comparison on the installed package configuration, and the
updated one, and then just downloading and overwriting those files which are
different.

Hence this would be a great addition to the marvelous package manager which
is apt (and one of the reasons I wont use rPath linux, is its not debian
based, heh).

=)

Matthew

Bug#427376: hibernate: Gaim scriptlet

On Mon, 9 Jul 2007 22:42:39 +0200 martin f krafft <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
wrote:

BTW, I found that hibernate's configuration option argument processing is
buggy: it chops off everything after the first space, eg. when parsing
this configuration option:

GaimLogoutMessage My computer hibernated.

the value passed to my config handler is just "My". No quotes (single or
double) or backslashes help here. I'll check if I can fix it quickly.
Anyway, I'll file a new bug report.

> I am unsure about Sylpheed and Galeon though: where is the benefit
> of setting offline mode during suspend, and why would anyone not
> want to set online mode after resume?

With Sylpheed, the problem was that when my laptop resumed and the
Sylpheed process was thawed, it immediately tried to download my mail,
before the laptop had a network connection (the network autodetection
scripts need a few seconds). With the scriptlet Sylpheed is thawed in
offline state, and is set to online after the network interfaces are
brought up.

With Galeon, the problem is similar if I have web pages open that refresh
themselves. (I'm not sure whether Galeon still pops up error message
windows when it encounters some network error as it used to be with
previous releases; if not, then maybe it's not worth to set it to
offline.)

Best regards,

norbi

Bug#432525: gnat-4.2 - FTBFS: Unfullfillable build dependency: gcc-4.2-source

2007-07-11 Thread Ludovic Brenta
Actually, since that latest upload of gcc-4.2 introduced RC bugs in the
back-end, I'll wait for another upload of gcc-4.2 that fixes them before
uploading gnat-4.2. Also, this is not a simple re-upload because I have
to update the packaging scripts.

Bug#407010: [mplayer] Segfault at launch

2007-07-11 Thread David Kremer
Package: mplayer
Followup-For: Bug #407010

I have meet a problem with mplayer's .deb
of the main archive.

When I make :

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$mplayer

I have directly a segfault, without the printout
of the mplayer's usage.

I have build the package like in the debian gdb wiki
at this link :

http://wiki.debian.org/HowToGetABacktrace

and the new .deb built works perfectly, so I don't have
many more information.

I don't know what it means. Thanks anyway.

Bug#432678: alsa-utils: alsaconf kills OSS applications

2007-07-11 Thread Chris Lale
Package: alsa-utils
Version: 1.0.13-2
Severity: normal

Running alsaconf (eg to configure a sound card) causes OSS apps (eg
XMMS, Audacity, etc) to stop working in Etch (Stable). The error
messages are:

Audacity: There was an error initializing the audio i/o layer
RealPlayer 10: Cannot open the audio device. Another application
may be using it.
XMMS: Couldn't open audio. Please check that: Your sound card is configured
properly. You have the correct output plugin selected. No other program
is blocking the soundcard.

The cause is that alsaconf unloads modules including snd_pcm_oss. This
destroys /dev/pcm. When alsaconf reloads the modules, it fails to reload
snd_pcm_oss and /dev/pcm is not recreated.

The reason for alsaconf's bad behaviour is a combination of its use of
the obsolete update-modules command and the existence of the file
/etc/modprobe.conf (perhaps left over from an upgrade or created by
another application).

According to the update-modules man page, the existence of
/etc/modprobe.conf will cause /etc/modprobe.d/ to be ignored by Debian
packages which store their configuration files there. It also says
that no package [should] try to use [update-modules] anymore.

Because of this behaviour of update-modules, alsaconf seems to be
ignoring a configuration file which tells it to load snd-pcm-oss.
The configuration file is probably /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base
which contains this line:

install snd-pcm /sbin/modprobe --ignore-install snd-pcm && {
/sbin/modprobe --quiet snd-pcm-oss ; : ; }

I moved /etc/modprobe.conf out of the way and everything now works
properly. There have been several threads on the Debian-User list
recently which suggest that other people are experiencing a similar
problem.

I don't know whether Testing and Unstable are also affected but, if
their version of alsaconf still uses update-modules and
/etc/modprobe.conf exists, I think they quite likely will be.

Bug#432681: fai-client: fcopy doesn't check exit code of postinst script

2007-07-11 Thread Ralf Nyren
Package: fai-client
Version: 3.1.8
Severity: normal

fcopy doesn't check the exit code of postinst script, i.e. if the postinst
script fails fcopy will still exit successfully (if everything else went
fine that is).

For example, the fai-quickstart examples includes a grub setup using fcopy
and a postinst script. If the postinst script fails, e.g. grub failed to
install for some reason, it will not be seen in status.log

Hi,

Adding libid3tag0-dev to Build-Depends: fixes the MP3 support:

and the resulting package indeed shows MP3 files again.

Bug#432682: crash: less SEGV when permission is denied

2007-07-11 Thread Bruce Duncan
Package: less
Version: 406-0
Severity: normal

I have managed to crash less! I have reduced the crash to this test case:

$ echo $LINES $COLUMNS
30 239
$ echo hello > test
$ echo goodbye > test2
$ chmod -r test2
$ less test test2

It seems that when less views a file which does not fill the entire window,
followed by pressing ":n" to go to the next file (for which I have no read
permission) it segfaults.

The following is the end of an ltrace immediately before the crash:

open("test2", 0, 041) = -1
__errno_location()  = 0x2b851ec26aa8
strerror(13) = "Permission denied"
strlen("Permission denied") = 17
strlen("test2") = 3

The strace was uninteresting, as was the gdb backtrace.

Hope that's of some use,

Bug#432680: gnome-power-manager: X session is not restored on wake up

2007-07-11 Thread jetxee
Package: gnome-power-manager
Version: 2.18.3-1
Severity: normal

I noticed recently that recent version of gnome-power-manager does not
return normally from stand-by mode on my laptop.

What I observe on wake-up is first display is flickering a little, then
I see X cursor on a black background for a couple of seconds, then the
screen turns in a series of vertical color stripes for a coupld of
seconds, and the again X cursor, and so on. Keys like CTRL-ALT-DEL or
CTRL-ALT-Backspace do not work.

I would like to point out that few dist-upgrades ago (something like two
weeks ago) gnome-power-manager used to put the laptop into suspended
mode, and it returned to life successfully, but I fail to remember which
versions of gnome-power-manager, hal etc. I had being using.

This happens with both kernel 2.6.18-4-686 and 2.6.21-2-686.

`s2ram' still works perfectly for my machine (suspends and awakes).
s2ram identifies the machine as:
sys_vendor   = "Acer"
sys_product  = "TravelMate 2420"
sys_version  = "0100   "
bios_version = "V1.03 "

I did not notice any explanations in neither syslog nor Xorg.0.log.
Related part of syslog is attached to this message.

P.S.: neither I cannot read what exactly gnome-power-manager writes
to syslog: it looks like it tries to write in Russian, in UTF-8
encoding, but some letters are damaged for some reason.

Bug#432679: Mapping d-i console layout choices to X layout in the installed system

It would be nice to be able to choose the right X layout in the installed

Please read below about the implementation proposal.

I have committed the changes in d-i's SVN repo in revision 48042.

Still I think we should clarify the and format and the place where this
information will be so that is easier for the X
maintainers to actually use this information in a programatic way.

For starters I think we should keep a list like the one I proposed somewhere in
the D-I SVN repo.

Is there an already existing package that seems appropriate to incorporate this
information, or do we have to make a new
package?

Bug#390630: With xserver-xorg-video-savage 1:2.1.2-5 and EXA, X.org shows garbled display

2007-07-11 Thread Laurent Baum

Hello,
FYI
Have a look at the overview [0] of xserver-xorg-video-savage. You'll
find a patch from ubuntu for version 1:2.1.2-5ubuntu1 [1] "Skip
ShadowWait if DRI is already shut down".

I installed the ubuntu binaries[2] for the purpose of testing and the
patch actually resolves the issue where X hangs when you log out of an X
session.

Bug#432683: short description - The GNU What Monitors?

2007-07-11 Thread Philippe Cloutier

Package: gkrellm
Version: 2.2.10-1
Severity: minor

The short description reads "The GNU Krell Monitors".
AFAIK, and I'm not a native English speaker, so sorry if I'm simply
ignorant, "Krell" is not an English word, so the short description
doesn't say much. Please either avoid this term in the short
description, or add something that really describes gkrellm.

Hello Cajus,

if i use smbldap-tools in the background of GOsa it will create the
following groups.

- Account Operators

- Domain Admins
- Domain Computers

- Print Operators
- Replicators

If i want to edit some group settings, i am getting an error message
because the group name is not lowercase. So it is impossible to make
some changes or edit the permissions via ACL.

Hello,

It would be nice to have some kind of option/menu to view some simple
statistics like average delay time, number of finished tasks,
important/normal/minor ratios for the completed and pending tasks,
distribution by category.

This information might help one to track his/her involvement in some
activities, how efficient scheduler is he/she.

Thanks.

The system on which this problem occured now has a motherboard with
integrated entropy generator so I can't reproduce it. For what it's
worth, I haven't seen the issue on other systems without such a
generator.

It's fixed now; however the patch doesn't work, I end up with a
 libcairo2 dependency instead of libcairo-directfb2-udeb. :-(

Bug#432606: paris-traceroute: Cannot be executed as normal user

2007-07-11 Thread Hervé Rousseau

thanks

Hi,

Thank you for reporting the bug. paris-traceroute binary lies
in/usr/sbin/ that's why I forgot to take care about this. I will
change and install it in /usr/bin with suid

I am preparing a -2 version of the package that uses debconf and will
(eventually) SetUID the binary to allow non-root to use it.

Bug#432693: Fixed resolution

2007-07-11 Thread Pierre THIERRY
Package: funnyboat
Version: 1.5-1
Severity: normal

The resolution of the game cannot be changed. In my configuration
(1280x1024), that makes it either small (windowed) or ugly (fullscreen).

Bug#374035: i810 driver in multihead setup uses wrong mode

2007-07-11 Thread Elías
Hello!
No working!
on:
Acer travelmate 240
82852/855GM Integrated Graphics Device (rev 02)

remarks! i think this is the same bug as #378549

info:
the problem is related on external CRT detection on boot , the
chip
switches the pipes, but driver thinks it are not swiched, and limits
external CRT to local flat panel resolution, and allows local flat panel
wrong resolutions.

Bug#432543: geneweb: FTBFS: debian/get-iso-codes returns error 1

2007-07-11 Thread Christian Perrier
severity 432543 critical
retitle 432543 iso_639.tab was still used (by geneweb)
reassign 432543 iso-codes
thanks

(severity=critical because "breaks unrelated software")

The build of the geneweb package is broken by the removal of
iso_639.tab.

I am really sorry for still using that file, but unless someone comes
up with a simple command-line utility to extract information for the
iso-codes XML files, using the .tab files is the only way to easily
associate a language code and a language name.

Please re-instate the generation of iso_639.tab.

Tobias, can you do it? I don't remember what you did change to
iso-codes build system to stop providing that file.

Bug#426789: mysql-server-5.0 hangs/deadlocks on startup and shutdown due to privilege problems

2007-07-11 Thread Nick Leverton
Package: mysql-server-5.0
Version: 5.0.41a-1
Followup-For: Bug #426789

Confirming that this problem with "user = mysql" in my.cnf still exists
in version 5.0.41. Yow, it has taken me many days to find why mysqld
hangs on start up and when trying to shut down.

Upstream says in http://bugs.mysql.com/bug.php?id=28690 that this should
be fixed in 5.0.44. They have a patch, if anyone can't wait for a
working mysqld.

The problem is not in Etch's 5.0.32 so downgrading to that is another
possible workaround, avoiding the need to reconfigure your MySQL.

Nick

Otherwise building Debian package failes because quilt before 0.42 doesn't have
