I disagree. 

IMHO, they _can_ be different tools, but they _don't_need_ to be different 
tools.

I, as a _user_, don't care HOW is a tool done, built, written; I want to _use_ 
it. I don't mind it is separate, provided the UI is there, ready to use without 
any special hassle. It does not need to be graphical - your "beta DOS" version 
was not either, as were none of the half dozen or so '51 DOS-based simulators 
circulating around - they were all text-mode. Contrary - I don't like the 
windowey style of most of the "modern" simulators, they burn up too much of the 
precious pixels for the useless window borders and stuff.
