Ihave compared both logs. The only difference is that there is a longer
wait period for data (about 56 seconds if my maths are ok) for the machine
with 'black' scans. The ASIC could be timing out and sending void data.
To investigate further an USB level logwould be needed. It can be
generated by adding export SANE_DEBUG_SANEI_USB=255 before running scanimage.
But this will create a huge amount of data. Maybe there are some interesting
messages to be found with 'dmesg'.
