The vmware version of sage does work for most users using exactly the
same steps that you're doing above, so you're not doing anything
wrong.  It's just "not working" because of some Windows firewall of
VMware networking issue.  Your best bet is to use http://sagenb.org or
wait for the windows port of Sage (http://windows.sagemath.org).
