Hi, i think the best way for you to try it is to burn it in a cd, as a whole cd image and then reboot your pc making sure the first bootable device is the cd drive.
That will make run the live cd. The other option is the pen drive one but requires more step an explanation which you can read at the README file. About "Parallels" i have no clue since I don't use Macs. Greetings, Lucio.
