As far as I can judge the situation, its not what you doing, but the
way you are doing it what makes him quit (if he does so),
it would be a shame to loose him as a developer, like Dave pointed
out, there wil be less to do to keep the solaris port working (as it
was to make it working) and he may have time to do some other things
concerning sage,

I guess it's up to you if he quit's or not

I dare to make a proposal: To split the traffic, why not open a list
dedicted to general build issues (for all platforms which are
currently working and considered as major platforms)?

One thing that is clear to me, is their should have been some open discussions about the issue(s).

I thought about your idea and first I quite liked it. But the problem is that some people don't seem to care too much if their changes break a build elsewhere. So those people will not read a list of build issues.

I'm posting here as a non-developer not to aggrandize my self, it's
just because I like sage a *lot*,
