Hello folks,
if you have been reading this list and have not heard about the fact
that the ReST transition is coming in Sage 3.3 you must have been not
paying attention :)
Mike Hansen has been working tirelessly for a while on a giant patch
set (as below noted 282 thousand lines of diff, about 8.8MB in size)
that now needs review since 3.2.3.final is out. The above patch series
does not cleanly apply against 3.2.3.final yet, but Mike is working on
rebasing it against the few patches that were merged since 3.2.3.rc0.
We want to release 3.3 soon, i.e. less than a week from now and
currently the plan is to do the ReST transformation and aside from
that only a couple bug fixes in the Sage library as well as spkg
updates so that people can start developing against an official
release. For hat we need reviewers and while the review has already
started we still need more eyeballs. The idea of this review is not to
discover that some file needs doctests or that you can finish some
long standing documentation project you always wanted to do so that
you start posting large reviewer patches, but to get the files merged
with a minimal set of reviewer changes on top. Should you discover
large issues please open a followup ticket and have the problem
addressed there. If things go according to plan we have everything in
3.3.alpha0 is three days or so and then can go on to stabilize.
Once 3.3.alpha0 is out Mike has offered to rebase patches in trac to
apply against the current tree as well as help out people to convert
their docstrings to ReST since he has improved some scripts to do 99%
of the work.
By the way: Below is "just" the ReST conversion of the reference
manual, the other documentation as well as the infrastructure changes
for doctesting and so on will come via another set of tickets.
