"portable" sounds a good adjective to characterize distribution packages. 
Another may be "light-weight".

I can't really imagine that a distribution package is used for a 
non-mathematical project, though no one can be certain about the future.

As for a mathematical project, I may imagine a mathematician who wrote a 
python script that does a graph-theoretic computation. To run the script in 
a seminar, she quickly pip-installs sagemath-graphs to a computer in the 
seminar room and then shows off her computation. I don't know if this is 
realistic either...
