ok. Just to be sure, try the following:

open an existing problem 'song'.

open device manager and import the GM2.rgd device.

Change all the tracks assigned to 'General Midi' (GM.rgd) to use GM2.

Delete the 'General Midi' (GM.rgd) device from the device manager list.

Save the 'song'.

Close the 'song'.

Re-open the 'song'

Check the tracks are assigned to GM2...

???

Thank you, that makes me aware how to save a default studio with GM2.rgd, but it won't fix the songs already created. I have dozens of rg files that I have put together over time and these are always loading the previous GM.rgd studio settings,
which, I can assure you, were working fine.
By the way, it looks like I'm not the only one:

    Hi Arnaldo,

if I understand you correctly I suspect that you are thinking that
    if you select GM2 as

the device then you are setting it as a default for all 'songs'
but it does not work like that.

The devices are saved with each 'song' (.rg file) and so you need
to set them for each 'song'

or else set up a default studio with the desired devices as a
    start position for all 'songs'.

See the 'studio' menu for saving a default studio.

Apologies if I have misunderstood your issue.

    Regards,

    Chuck.

Sorry for bringing this up again, the few times I open Rosegarden
I'm still facing the same issue.
I recently noticed that if I try to replace GM2.rgd in the MIDI
device settings, it will always change to GM.rgd every time I
    open any .rg file.
By conducting further testing with the help of a web based
    midifile player found at https://chiptune.app/,
that also lets you use the fluidsynth engine that's running
locally, I noticed that the percussion track is getting
    initialized properly
with the standard kit, while, for some reason, I still get the
    glockenspiel in Rosegarden.
So I have a question, if the problem is the autoload and GM.rgd
    (whichhasalwaysworkedwithouttheslightesthiccup until mid-late 2024)
why isn't GM2.rgd set as default? BTW, I have never used a custom
autoload.rg, I don't even know where it is located.
