I just don't get it.  I've installed RH5 on a cheap little AST machine, and
it networked with no problems.  I put it on a more expensive and built-out
HP PC, and I can't even ping my own router...

I'm so frustrated (for lack of a better, stronger word) that I could
explode...!

I don't know either ;) I am still fairly new to networking....sorta
Anyway, I have never have to change that one myself it's alway been .255
Maybe it has to do with your network class..C  Probably is come to think of
it.
hmmm, this is strange!
What type of cable are you using? Maybe there is something wrong with that.
Try new cables and go through the hub.
