OK, the motherboard that I hae is the Mustang R534F with Cyrix 6x86L-P200+,
sometime in 1997 Award BIOS.

hda: Maxtor 85400D5, 5150MB w/256kB Cache, CHS=11162/15/63
hdc: Maxtor 88400D8, 8011MB w/256kB Cache, CHS=16278/16/63
hdd: IOMEGA ZIP 100 ATAPI, ATAPI FLOPPY drive
ide0 at 0x1f0-0x1f7,0x3f6 on irq 14
ide1 at 0x170-0x177,0x376 on irq 15
Floppy drive(s): fd0 is 1.44M
FDC 0 is a post-1991 82077
scsi : 0 hosts.
scsi : detected total.
Partition check:
 hda: hda1 hda2 hda3
ide-floppy: hdd: I/O error, pc = 5a, key =  5, asc = 24, ascq =  0
ide-floppy: Can't get drive capabilities
hdd: 98304kB, 32/64/96 CHS, 4096 kBps, 512 sector size, 2941 rpm
hdd: The drive reports both 100663296 and 0 bytes as its capacity

As you can see, the CD-ROM is now missing, because I made the second hard
disk a master on the second IDE so that I could make the Zip a slave of that
hard disk, instead of the CD-ROM.

Still can't fdisk the Zip drive.  I put in the IDE Zip drive from the
Windoze95 box and it has the exact same problem.  So, I suspect that the
IDE drive is not broken.

I certainly shouldn't have to boot with a disk in the drive, i.e., it shouldn't
be any different that a CD-ROM drive.

I'll let you all mull over the new info while I head off to watch the
X-Files movie.  I've already paid for the ticket, so I best go.  I'll check
my e-mail after I get back.
