MessageI don't! know, but I jumped in there and apologized! did not want it to
look like I was just running off at the mouth making sweeping statements which
could not be backed up, but I did! in the back of my mind recall her in
England! so was sort of right, and she came back here!

Yep, and it's just as good to be half right as it is bad to be half
wrong....I wonder if two half wrongs still don't make a right? haha

Lora, apparently she has learned something; I think she is married,
living in England. have not seen her around in magazine columns lately, either!

I started with Gloria in braille letters I think and then we taped.
Then she got some idea I thought I was better than her which was not true. I
had just gotten married and was learning to cook and other things. I guess she
was not able to do things independently and just because I t talked about it a
lot because that was what I was trying to do in my middle 20's she dropped me
because she didn't think I realized that we all have different abilities and
how we learn and stuff. Oh well, I just let her go because at the time I
didn't have the time to argue with people and I figured if she felt that way
maybe I didn't need the negativity around me.
I can't remember how Kitty and I lost touch.

I never wrote to either of them, so do not know a thing about their
status.

Would this be Kitty Backstrom? I think I recall hearing the
name in pen and tape pals circle; Gloria? Gloria McGoff Rathbone, possibly?

Yeah, me too. There is a girl named Gloria that we all also
knew back then and maybe she would know if Kitty is still alive. Kitty would
probably be in her 80's now.

I corresponded with that same lady briefly. I wonder if
she's still alive.

Oh, Marilyn, thanks a lot. I just wrote to Cooking
Friends today asking about this. I used to correspond with a lady named Kitty
who was a lot older than I am. She was probably in her middle 50's when I was
in my 20's and she was giving me some recipes on tape. Like a dummy I was
copying it on very thin paper from old phone books with my braille writer.
Well, you know what happens to braille on thin paper over time. The dots get
squished down.
That meal was so good when I made it shortly after we got
married and i have wanted to make it again. That is so cool! Now I need to
get tomatoes and onions!'You have made my weekend.
                      Lora

TOMATO - ONION - CHEESE CASSEROLE
2 lg. onions, sliced & boiled
                        4-6 fresh tomatoes, sliced
                        6-8 slices American cheese
                        Fresh basil
                        Butter
                        1/2 c. bread crumbs
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Lightly grease 1 1/2 quart
casserole. Layer, in order,
1/2 of the tomatoes and onions. Sprinkle with salt and
pepper and basil. Top with
1/2 of the cheese slices. Repeat for the second layer.
Toss bread crumbs with melted
butter and sprinkle over top of cheese. Bake,
uncovered, 30 to 35 minutes or until
tomatoes are tender. Serves 6. Enjoy.
