I had a similar experience with Discover warranty recently with a Link II. I correctly installed internal jumpers and external comms cables, and during the commissioning process I heard a popping sound from inside the Link. The center relay board was visibly burnt. After creating a ticket and corresponding with tech support, they accused me of plugging in the link cable to the Ethernet port, which I very definitely did not do. The Link was no longer under warranty due to…something that didn’t happen? I had another Link on hand and swapped it out on my own dime. It was a frustrating experience, but luckily it was a hundreds, not thousands of dollars headache. No warm and fuzzies.
On the other hand, Fortress Power RMA’d an eVault Max BMS for me today that failed after a lighting strike. Very obviously not under warranty, but they replaced it anyways. Yes warm and fuzzies.
