Sandra:

The system is a GTBB installation. The AGS is the only component I am
aware of that is losing communications.

I don’t know why it is losing communications. I don’t know if it is a
Xanbus problem (or even what a Xanbus is), if it is an AGS problem or
whatever. I was hoping you could provide some insight on why it might be
losing communications. This might include any known problems,
troubleshooting tips and maybe a comment on the assertion from Schneider
tech support as to why we needed CAT5 cables in excess of 6 feet. Please
feel free to communicate freely on the subject.

Thanks.

William

William,

What is the application (Off-grid, Grid-Tie)?

Other than AGS loosing communications, is there any other device with
communication problems?

If this is only on the AGS, how do you know that it is related to
communication on Xanbus?

Sandra:

Thank you for the speedy reply. Here are the components for just one
problematic system:

3 XW 6048 inverter, model number 865-1000. Master serial number is
000011DFBFOB.

2 XW-MPPT60-150 charge controllers

1 SCP

1 AGS

2 terminators on the ends of data bus.

The equipment is circa 2009. The case number is Case 19410834 and I spoke
with Chantille on 6/4/15. We replaced all of the network cables and we
still have problems. I suspect some of the new cables may be green in
color and I now understand that brand O cables may not meet data industry
specs. Before I replace them again, I want to know if I need 6’ cables or
any other advice you may offer.

Again the AGS is frequently losing communications with the system. What
else should I check? Don’t know the firmware version. I have a dongle.

William

William,

I will need system specific information to make any comments on your
reported communications issues.

As far as the recommendations for 6 foot CAT5, that was done 5 to 7 years
ago for a specific application, and it is still valid when working with
large systems, where you are pushing the Xanbus network maximum.

I have frequent communications problems with XW xanbus devices. At one
point I was told by Schneider tech support that all Cat5 leads need to be a
minimum of 6 feet in length. Is this true?

Hello Drake.

In the Xanbus network, you have devices with power such as inverters, and
other devices without power.

You can not connect an SCP directly to an MPPT60, because both SCP and
MPPT60 have no power, but if you have an inverter in the network, it should
give sufficient power for the devices.

There are several reasons why a device that is still fully functional but
not show up on the network. This ranges from the minor CAT5 cable problem
to maybe a damage communication card. Some may be solved with a simple
factory reset, and other cases may require a replacement.

However, without the full context of the conversation, I do not see how
connecting ComBox or SCP will make any difference. Although, the ComBox as
an AC power supply it will not power the Xanbus network, it is only to
power the ComBox.

As far as connecting ComBox directly to your laptop without a router, this
is possible, but you need to change your network setting on the laptop.

Hello Wrenches,

We have a situation on a repair job (that I didn't install), where the
charge controllers are not showing up on the SCP. There are 3 charge
controllers, two 600 V and one 150 volt units. There is a ComBox and and
SCP.

One Schneider tech recommended that I unplug the SCP and plug a laptop
directly into the ComBox..The manual shows a router being used.

Can a laptop be plugged directly in to a ComBox? Will this be helpful in
finding the missing CCs?

Even with new Ethernet cables, the CCs don't show up.

Thanks,

Drake
