I do not share this experience. I have both old and new-style Campy brifters on Noodle and B117 bars. Both have relatively flat ramps running to the brifters that did not require any weird bar angles to set up. I have run the cable in front, back and split front/back on Nitto bars without any degradation in either shifting or braking performance. Just make sure that you have nice, curvey bends in the cable housing. I have found, however, that some older Cinelli and Specialized (80's vintage) bars have steep angles on the ramps leading to the brake levers.
