I figured "how many cuts do I make?" Why don't I just get a used one for 
half price? This is the question I ponder on everything bike related (and 
most of my bike related things are bought used for half price). 
I brought this same thing up on this list or iBob a year or so ago and got 
all the same responses. So, I bought the cable cutter new and have not 
regretted it for a SECOND. There is just no other way to cut cables and 
housing well on your own with a cheaper tool. 

I have cut fender stays with it, but I prefer a my father in law's bolt 
cutter. Maybe I have to buy one of those, too!
