Steve,

Now keep in mind that i only tape 1-2 times a year, and the order i've
taped in the last few years (from longest ago to most recent) is tressotar,
newbaums, tressotar, vo, newbaums, viva so my comments should be considered
with the fact that the more recent ones are the one's i like best. but i
found the viva easiest to keep straight and the vo the hardest. that could
be a function of getting better over time.

if i were to do a more detailed accounting i'd add these attributes, mostly
subjective/eye-of-the-beholder:
viva:
pros: feels soft, bright colors, thinner/easier to lay down
cons: short length per roll (when compared to newbaums) makes covering wide
bars tough, thin (less cushion), expensive

newbaums: affordable, long per roll makes even widest bars easy to cover,
way too many colors
cons: not as soft as viva, weave is not as tight

tressostar: pretty close to newbaums, not as long per roll
cons: traditional color choices, thinner then newbaums but not as tight
weaved as viva

vo: long per roll, wider then others, thicker
cons: thicker, has a strange "feel"

overall my order would be same taking into account all factors. my biggest
gripe with the viva is that it is expensive (relative to others) and a
little too short (though the same length as tressostar). The viva's
usually come with bar-end plugs, but not an advantage if you don't need
them. but i'm willing to overlook these as the viva feel the nicest to the
hand.
