unfortunately, lesnik's assessment just doesn't match my experience. and for those who haven't already seen this, mike kone of boulder/rene herse bicycles attributes the problem to spoke tension, while in the comments velocity (or someone claiming to represent velocity) attributes the problem to an under-spec'd extrusion:
