+1 this seems to work even on the meanest tire/rim combos (that I've
experienced, anyway).   I once had to help a fellow rider fix a flat
because he and others who tried couldn't get the bead started over the
rim at all.    For some reason, none of us had a tire lever at the
time although we did have a patch kit.     Anyway this technique to
the rescue.   I learned this method from a bmx riding buddy.
