David, with that 58BCD crank you can run a 20T granny. That will give you a similar gear to the 22-36 with your 34.
The 20T's are hard to find but ActionTec makes one in Ti! I have an old S-works crank that will run that combo and so will some of the Ritcheys. The ride looked like a lot of fun. I'm sorry I missed it.
