"Perfect" for some values of "perfect," perhaps -- but far from ideal.
58mm provides more room and better wrap-around coverage.  I think the
biggest advantage of 50mm fenders is that they'll fit between the chain
stays without any need for special modifications to the stays or the
fenders.  I had to cut the 58mm fenders to get them to fit between the
chain stays on my Saluki:

but the coverage over the tires is much better than you'd get from a
50mm fender.
