I just returned a Retro bottle cage on which the weld had come apart after two months' use. As I mentioned to Chris, I'd squeezed it slightly a number of times to keep a better fit for a Kleen Canteen 27 oz bottle. Whether that qualifies as abuse I'm not sure--I'll be happy with whatever Chris feels is appropriate. The price point was right for me at the time, and it sure looked good while it lasted.
