It’s not clear how fully functioning the included GPS of new smartphones is. I’ve read discussions about the co-operation with cellular internet for the route information and detail greater than latitude longitude definition.
I’ve been left of undefined location by electronic means in a few too dire of moments to rely solely on them. The “canopy” of foliage or atmospheric moisture degrading signals is a risk to me, so I keep a map and compass with me.
