Hey Andy, iPhones (and I believe most smartphones now?) have had satelite GPS that works great even where there is no mobile signal for quite a few years now. As with all GPS, it works best with clear view of the sky, as it also uses triangulation to get greater precision, so canyons, dense forest, deep valleys, and other geographies can monkey with it.
