Totally agree with the mapping issues, although I ride exclusively on roads and 
well-defined off-street bike paths.

However, requiring a smartphone for mapping could be viewed as a feature, not a 
bug. Yes, I have to stop and haul out my phone to map a route to a new 
destination, but in my experience it’s much easier than using the menus in a 
Garmin.

Downside is that you can’t edit the route—ask to find such-and-such a location, 
and it will find what it thinks is the best route. Input that route and divert 
from it, and the Elemnt won’t adjust to keep you heading toward the 
destination.
